Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Its been my go to powder for .40 open and once I've used up all of my hs6 its going to be my 9 major powder as well. Very flashy, very loud, works the comp great and burns clean.
  2. There's a few of us shooting .40 open. I've got a few open guns, two 9 majors and a.38 super. I shoot the .40 because it's fun and honestly I have no trouble keeping up. I'm running a short barrel and a 2 port comp, my gun barks and I had to spend a great deal of time working up a load for it but it shoots flat. I think that's the only thing your comp selection will affect, what powder and bullet weight you end up using.
  3. I use an 8 moa jpoint. I don't care for anything smaller than 6 on my open guns.
  4. I just started running a cz75 ipsc m in open this year. My mag capacity is 20 rounds since it shares 140's with my TS. I've only shot it at one match so far but I had no trouble keeping up with 9 major and 38 sc guns. Load development was definitely more problematic though. I chose to go with .40 because the gun uses all the same equipment as my TS so I can shoot limited then swap guns and shoot open. I really like it but unless you got a screamin' deal on a .40 open blaster I wouldn't go out of my way to find one.
  5. I tried 135gr Rainer and a book load with power pistol. It shot flat and soft but was very loud and threw fire about three feet straight up out of the comp, I didn't get all of the unburnt powder I was getting with hs-6 though so I think so far thats been the best powder/weight I've tried in my gun.
  6. I ran about 50 rounds of hs6 and 135gr through it this morning and I just wasn't getting a very good or consistent burn with such a slow powder. Maybe I would have better luck with WSF but I threw a lb of power pistol on my last powder order and I'll wait until I can try a few of each side by side. I'm going to try some 180s with hs6 next and see where that takes me. I'm not really concerned with the cost of 180s vs 135s but I already use hs6 in another gun and I use 180s in my limited load. I do like the idea of being able to use components I already have. The original owner had a large collection of competition guns that never really saw any use. I don't think he was a reloader and I wouldn't be the least bit suprised if it was never fired at all. The recoil spring still has the colored paint on it indicating weight.
  7. I think I can pretty much determine that my.gun doesn't like medium weight bullets like 155 and 165. I was getting the most dot movement with those weights regardless of powder and charge weight. Going to run some more test loads today with 135s and 180s. So far 135s and hs-6 are... harsh but very flat. I was however oushing max with the listed load data. I'm going to back it off half a grain and try a few more. I still have universal and power pistol on the way to try but at least I have the bullet weights narrowed down. I would almost prefer to make hs-6 work because I use it in other loads. I don't remember it being this difficult to get a .38 or 9 major load worked up but I sure am having fun with it.
  8. Honestly, I haven't the faintest. Something CZ came up with the squeeze it into the box. I do know the hole pattern is definitely not cmore. Thanks, I'll give that a try. I also have some accurate no 7 and VV n105 I usually use for my .38 super loads I want to try. I've heard 180's and slow powders were the order of the day for IPSC modified. I've only tried autocomp in my 9 and I didn't like it. It actually reminded me a lot of WSF in the way it felt.
  9. I picked this up recently because my coworker has one and I always wanted one. Plus it shares clothes with the cz ts I use in limited. So far I've only shot it with a few rounds of my old limited load of a precision bullets 170 moly coated on top of Bullseye at 1.135 and it was surprisingly flat and soft considering it isn't an ideal load for something with a comp. I'm going to whip up some test loads with different weights and some slower powders over thanks giving. I wish there was more load data out there for these old modified division guns.
  10. I've seen it done but the idea of shooting 9mm major out of an RIA frame gun worries me as I've seen the way a lot of RIA's loosen dramatically after just a few thousand rounds. Not meaning to insult anyone shooting a RIA just that I think the metallurgy isn't quite there, I wouldn't be surprised to see peening or deformation on areas of the slide and frame.
  11. It's my completely uneducated opinion that most of the cracked slides are from too much lightening in too many key places. I have a single stack .38 super thats around 30 years old and it's still going strong but theres not a single lightening cut in it. My 9mm major I bought off my shooting instructor for a song because it had a cracked slide but he had put an astronomical amount of rounds through it. When I replaced the slide I just did some basic lightening at the back of the slide and cut the slot for the popple holes. We'll see how long it lasts.
  12. Was it still a competitive setup for you? I think I may see what I can do with mine and bring it out just for fun. I don't think there's very many good options for an optics mount but I bet I could probably fit something on to it with a little persuasion.
  13. Most everything you can do yourself. My shopping list from CGW was production legal race hammer and sear, 11lb mainspring, lighter FPB spring, lighter trigger return spring, DP front and rear sight, lighter recoil spring, extended firing pin, ss guide rod, and a bunch of polishing.
  14. Title pretty much says it, how far have people taken the 92 platform? I shoot uspsa with a guy that runs a mostly stock m9 in production but I've always wondered if anyone has tried to build an open gun with one. What about limited, has anyone ever tried putting a magwell on one? Or just gotten creative with modifications? I have a 92fs that I put one of the HEC sgs style compensators on mostly because I always loved The Professional but it does work to a degree. It got me wondering why you never seem to see anyone running beretta's at matches except for the rare one or two in production.
  15. I went the used route but I was always planning on doing that. I think I would go the cz checkmate way because I'm familiar with the feel of the gun. I ended up buying an old custom built sti open gun for $900 with three big sticks. It looks like he'll but it runs like it too so it got me in the game until I decide which gun I really want.
