Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I picked up a new m2 last May and had them ready it for 3 gun. Installed a Nordic +9 tube, Nordic follower, Nordic large bolt handle, one of their oversized bolt release buttons, milled in a tiny back site, and open the loading port. The only issues ive had with the gun is that it still wont feed the cheaper federal gun club type shells. I NEVER have a malfunction with Winchester AA's, but for the life of me I cant get it to feed the cheaper ammo. Hawkeye worked with me through the whole process including talking me out of an 18" and into a 24" model. Mark kept telling me of the possible merits of a 26" gun but I didn't listen. My next one will be a 26" gun I believe. I bought the gun from Arntzen Arms and never seen it again till Blair delivered it to me at a gas station the day before my first 3 gun shoot. Mark drove it to the shop in Iowa for me- for no charge. I am very pleased with the work they did for me and I believe their prices are unbeatable. Im not sure if they offer stippling, I believe they do and I wish I would've had them do it. I ended up doing it myself and while its effective, it looks like a home-brewed job. If you have any questions feel free to fire away. ill post up a pic or two if I can find one otherwise ill take one michael
  2. I had the screw backed out almost all the way and it wasn't holding the bolt open consistently. Sometimes it would catch on the bolt, sometimes the carrier and sometimes it wouldn't luck back at all. 2 times I had a misfire and I'm not sure what happened there. I ejected the round, put it back in and it fired fine
  3. So im having some issues with a new ar I just put together that I plan on using for 3 gun this summer. The barrel is a criterion 18" hybrid, with a seekins precision adjustable gas block with a rifle length gas system. I got out today for a few minutes to try to get the gas block dialed in but didn't have much luck. Does anyone use the seekins block and if so how far open do you run it? I also have the jp silent capture buffer and was running the black spring. ive since put the white spring in and will try that tomorrow. I tried running some American eagle ammo with no luck. the last 2 rounds were a double fire which ive never had before but it could be just me trying to get used to the ar gold trigger. The other thing I noticed when I got home was I had a ton of lube on the bolt. I whipped it down good. My other question- is there any way to reduce the take up slack in the ar gold? Seems like there is a ton of movement before the trigger engages. Don't get me wrong, I love the trigger, but I just don't see the reason for all the slack. I have the dpms miculek brake on it and am pretty surprised at all the pressure on my face while shooting. I might pick up a few more and mix and match till I find something a little more pleasant to shoot. the recoil is reduced to almost nothing so I love that however... thanks ! michael
  4. forgot a hand grip! lol I had a few laying around so I stuck a houge on it and it feels awesome. Long day of work, watching both kids tonight, and gun building but when I get a chance ill get a picture or 2. it weighed in at 6 lbs 9.6 ounces before optic. michael
  5. ive tried a couple and they bother me- at least the ones I used have. I also have a v seven 3 gun hybrid safety. v seven titanium firing pin

Still need to order some goodies for my glock 34 and get down to the metro area and get the benelli m2 rolling but its a busy spring for me. Hoping to make the first shoot in june here in mn or possibly wisconsin michael
  7. lol I hear you. I wont be set up this summer for rifle or pistol in bulk, but have 12 ga covered. michael
  8. Where are you guys getting ammo from? I have shotgun covered, but need some 9 mm and 223. I was thinking about bulk ammo.com but was wondering if there was something better out there- thanks michael
  9. Thanks fellas. Jack, ive got a Mec 9000G 12 ga reloader, but for metallic all I have is a RCBS Rock Chucker that I bought when I graduated high school back in 1992. I do not currently load 9mm but do load some 223. That said, im going to get a few thousand rounds on order from bulk ammo soon so when the new rifle is completed ill have plenty of ammo to feed it. For 12 ga im sitting on about 100 gallons of hulls, several cases of wads, about 40 lbs of clays and WST powder and I don't know how many thousands of primers. Lead is in short supply however, I believe I have 2 or 3 bags of 7 1/2 hard shot left. Back in the day I split a pallet of shot with a buddy but we both burned through it since then. I know I will not be getting into loading 9 mm or 223 in any quantity this year. I burned my old reloading bench that was in the basement last summer to make room for another bedroom and my attached garage is completely full of just about everything imaginable. I am in the process of finishing a new shop and when that's done ill clean out the attached garage and put up a new bench in there which ill be able to lock up and keep our curious 5 year old son from getting into too much trouble. Ive always wanted to get into a Dillon or something of that nature- but that's in the future. I did recently pick up 5000 once fired 9mm brass in preparations... michael
  10. Michael O from the Crosslake (20 min north of Brainerd) area here. Im a reformed and bored trap shooter who put down the shotgun 12-13 years ago and haven't shot any competitions since. My wife and I have a 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter and I own a couple small bus8inesses and between them and the kids free time is limited, but I was excited to see a lot of the 3 gun matches are Sundays. Ive never seen a 3 gun in person, but have seen a pile of youtube videos. Between Mark Stevens and Mac im surprised I haven't had a restraining order issued watching their videos. Im gearing up as I type this and hope to have my gear in line within the next 3-4 weeks so I can start going to matches and practicing here at home. I'll ask for forgiveness in advance for what im sure will be some silly questions, but I have no friends who have any real experience in 3 gun. I believe the closest range is in St Cloud, which is almost 2 hours south of me. Most of my questions here will be gear related, as much of it is very foreign to me. I have a basic understanding, but dont understand the finer points. I guess ill be in the tacops division from what I gather. For guns I am pretty much lined out with some decent equipment. Im working on my rifle as I write this. It is based off a Patriot Weaponry (Waupaca, Wi) billet upper and lower. I have most of the parts already but am working on getting a new 18" barrel shipped out this week. Im a decent rifle shot, but have plenty of room to grow and learn. Shooting on the move is completely foreign to me. I have an unmodified and unfired 21" M2, but I spoke with Mark Stevens on the phone yesterday (thanks Mark!) and I believe he has talked me into going with a 24" and ill be having Hawkeye Ordinance modify it a bit. I do have a shotgun background so believe this will be my strongest game, but shooting on the move and reloading will be very new to me. Im not overconfident and will be very open to suggestions when you guys watch me drop all my shells! The handgun scares the hell out of me to be honest. I own several, but am not very good with any. The only gun I have that is suitable is a completely unmodified glock 34. I understand most guys gravitate to the 1911/2011 style, and I might as well, but I think ill run this summer with a gun my hands know already. I'll put an enlarged magwell, new trigger, and some better sights on it but im guessing my skills wont warrant anything better for a while. As far as gunbelt and all the gear strapped to it- im confused to say the least. I drove down to St Cloud yesterday and Jason at Tactical Advantage was very gracious and showed me his belt. In speaking with Mark yesterday I found out that Arnzen stocks some belts and pouches so ill make the drive there in the next week or two. Anyway ill get on this site as much as I can over the next few weeks and pour through all the past posts looking to answers to the mountain of questions I already have, but im sure ill be asking a few questions that have already been hashed out here- so please forgive me. Looking forward to an interesting summer- Michael
