Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Im just loading 9mm for range use so its nothing critical. I was getting ready to make some test loads of some new Everglades JHP so I guess Im OK with the mixed powder since its almost the same thing
  2. I finished up a 1# jug of Universal powder so I opened up a 8# jug and filled up the powder measure. The 1# jug was bought early 2017 from a local store and the 8# was bought around the same time from powder valley. After pulling the handle a dozen times, I noticed a difference in the powder color/size. Would you dump the whole thing or continue with the reloading session
  3. I've been reloading 9mm for a short while on a 650XL, and want to start reloading rifle ammo as well. Im wondering if one caliber is better (forgiving) when learning to reload rifle ammo. I only have one 308 rifle, whereas I have multiple 223 rifles. When I go out, I mainly shoot paper at 100-300 yards and use a 223 rifles a lot more. I already have the components for both calibers but not sure where to start. Do you guys have an opinion on which cartridge to start with?
  4. Ive never tried it but S&W says they are not compatible
  5. thanks for the vid. It looks pretty simple. Ill work on it next time I take it apart
  6. As soon as I read your post, I remembered that the primers I was using was second run primers. Yesterday I was having issues with depriming on station 1 so all those primers got kicked out. I guess they got slightly deformed and would jam up the machine when I tried to use them again. I just opened a new box of primers and it seems to work flawlessly again. Thank you and happy New year!!!
  7. It was already pretty loose. I was able to unscrew it by hand. I made it tight after I cleaned everything hoping that was the issue but still have the same issue. Took the primer assembly off and apart to clean. It wasnt that dirty so I just wiped everything off. Im not sure if it needs grease since everything was pretty dry. Ive never changed the primer disk so I doubt that is the issue.
  8. I have a Dillon 650 set up for 9mm. Ive loaded about 5k rounds so far. Yesterday I started having issues where the machine freezes up when I load primers into the magazine tube. With out primers, I can freely pull the handle and everything moves/cycles as it should. But when I drop primers into the magazine tube, I can only pull the handle down half way and the machine freezes up. When this happens, I try to manually advance the primers by turning the rotary primer disc but it just wont budge. However I am able to turn the rotary primer disc in a backwards direction until all the primers are ejected into the ski ramp. Any help on how to fix this is appreciated
  9. Thanks for the fast replies. This forum has a world of knowledge and Im grateful to be part of it. Ill try answer some of of the questions on why/what Im doing ....... Like I said Im very new to reloading and Ive read that the longer the OAL, the more accurate/better the ammo. I'm just trying to see if I notice a difference from going from one extreme to another. Ive already checked to make sure it fits the magazine/barrel and everything seems good. As for why reload plinking ammo..... I live in California . Without getting too political, CA has passed laws where starting 2018, all ammo purchases need to go through a FFL for a background check. When buying online, it has to be shipped to a local FFL where they have to store it while we do a background check. Lots of online vendors and local FFL are refusing to deal with this nonsense (dont blame them) and the ones that do will be charging extra fees for this service. So to make a long story short, Ive decide to take up reloading to avoid this BS. Again, thanks for the replies and Happy Hew Years!!
  10. I'm still a novice to reloading. I've only loaded about 3k of 115gr FMJ-RN for plinking and they have all gone bang without any issues. Now I've been considering going with a bit longer OAL to see how things go. I'm wondering what happens if I keep the same grain of powder and just increase the OAL from 1.110 to 1.155". Does pressure increase or decrease when increasing the over all length? PS. I plan on doing a ladder test to be safe but just wondering.
  11. Thanks for all the posts so far. Just wondering why people dont install the swage it on station 2 before you trim it
  12. I recently joined the reloading world by picking up a Dillon 650 and have pulled the handle on about 1k of 9mm rounds. I think Im starting to get the hang of things and considering moving up to rifle rounds (223 and 308). I wont be starting this adventure right away but Id like to start gathering the necessary tools for reloading rifle. So Im looking for suggestions on what to buy for the case prep process. I have a wet tumbler but I need recommendations on a swager, trimmer, deburring, etc ..... Im trying to take the "buy once, cry once" route so I dont mind opening up my wallet if its going to streamline/simplify things. So what are the must have tools I should get and tools you wish you had bought when you first started?
  13. Hello all I recently started reloading to produce some plinking rounds. After reading some manuals and watching lots of vids, I decided to purchase a Dillon 650 to get going. My local shop recommended I try Hogden Universal so I bought 1 lbs along with Win SSP and some 115gr FMJ-RN. Using the Hornady manual, I made some ladder loads from 4.0 gr to 4.5 gr. with a OAL of 1.10" . I used 2 different pistols (5" barrel and 3" barrel) to test my loads. I settled on 4.4gr because it seemed to shoot pretty good and eject consistently. Since then I've loaded/shot another 200 rounds of 4.4 grains and I seem to shoot the same (if not a bit more accurate) when compared to factory loads. Some observations Ive made with my reloads are that the brass is a lot dirtier and I getting some muzzle flash, where I dont get with factory loads. So my question is, how do I know if I have the right powder/grain? Like I said, Im only reloading for plinking and generally shooting at paper so developing major loads and power factor are not important to me right now. I do have access to Win231 and Tightgroup, so im not sure if I should try other powder or work with Universal for a bit longer. Any advice/criticism you can provide is appreciated.
  14. Im going to bump this. Im new to reloading and have the same question?
