Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. I've used Zev, Timney, and GPT in the Gen 5 at this point. Similar to the conclusion I came to when running a Gen 3 and trying a bunch of different triggers-I've ended up going back to near stock. For me to achieve match reliability it's a matter of deciding between (-) and (.) connector going down to 4.5 or 5# striker spring from the stock 5.5#, and using a reduced power plunger spring. I may do some polishing. The GPT trigger is super cool for dry fire because you get some trigger return (though no break) after the first shot as opposed to a dead trigger, but I won't use it in a match for now.
  2. I did all the things-springs, reaming service, and henning Rival-S base pads. Still unreliable (rounds hanging on the feed ramp). Switched to a shorter OAL bullet with a round-nose profile and it my issues are gone. I don't reload, so had to switch the factory ammo I was using that had run reliably with a Glock, Tanfo, Sig P320, and Shadow 2, which was annoying, but the gun runs now. After all that I'm not even sure if I'll switch, but now I can put an optic on it and give it a fair shake this winter.
  3. Do you mind taking a picture the next time you have the gun apart to give an idea of how much to take off? Mine is angled on the front, I'm guessing you're talking about the side/inside edge? It isn't showing weird wear, but I do have the the gouge marks on the slide itself as shown by other users.
  4. Failing to feed. The Caniks were super weird, because I had two different malfunctions that appeared similar. Like many others I suffered the magazine over insertion issue, which I initially thought was round catching on the feed ramp. I don't think every gun does this, but mine do. What was really weird was sometimes my guns failed to feed and the malfunction was hard to clear, took remedial action and other times just pulling back slightly on the slide and releasing was enough to easily clear. The thing was sometimes the mag was over inserting (hard to clear) and other times the rounds were just hanging up on the feed ramp. The new Henning pads solved the over insertion issue, but I still get rounds that hang on the ramp, preventing feeding and leaving the action open. They clear easily, but I'm trying to get the guns to the point I can use them for USPSA. I'm not a technical expert, so I've just been reading what others have done to try and get mine running. I'm hoping the combination of Henning pads, the lower power (blue) recoil spring assembly and reaming the chamber will get them 100%.
  5. My plastic Rival initially ran well. Started choking after a few thousand rounds. I had moved to that since my S had issues nearly immediately. Now that the plastic doesn't run reliably I've started working through potential fixes for the S. I believe in the guns conceptually, hopefully they can be dialed in. Good luck.
  6. Report on the Henning pads: they work as described. No over-insertion. I had a couple failure to feeds, which look similar initially, but clear easily with a pull of the slide. When I had over insertion it was a much harder lock. I have an RA number, but based on the feedback of guys getting their guns back without issues fixed I'll probably just continue to work it on my own. Giving the gun back for a month or two for no resolution is sub-optimal. I have the reduced power spring/guide rod from Canik already. I'll probably have the barrel reamed by Patriot Defense. I'm hoping that will be the end of issues and I can just shoot the gun. If/when that happens I'll be looking forward to reading how Canik has fixed the issues and the next one just runs out of the gate.
  7. Full length of new Henning base pad in guage.
  8. What makes them illegal? I got a few in today, they fit my gauge. What is the issue?
  9. Bummed that I just got an RA number but I'm expecting it to not get fixed. Part of me wants to just spend the time to get it to work through Henning pads, reaming the chamber, and trying different recoil spring options. I do remember getting into the sport shooting Production with a Glock and getting a Tanfo thinking it'd be a silver bullet only to find out I had to do a bunch of work to get it to match-worthiness. As Bill pointed out, it was worth it though.
  10. Canik asked me to send mine in, so I'm obliging. To date I've gotten a grip from customer service which lined up slightly better than the factory medium that was no where close on any holes. Maybe going to them will result in a better outcome. Also ordered the new Henning pads. Annoying because I want it to be the gun I shoot. In the meantime I'm shooting a Sig that I feel suits me pretty well, but keep hearing stories (and now video) of them firing without the trigger being pulled . Is it too much to ask for a 40oz striker gun with a decent trigger that is reliable?
  11. Thanks very much. Went ahead and ordered.
  12. Anyone have one of these from Gray Guns? On sale right now, considering one. I would go with the 4.7" which several on here have posted about, but they're out. Wondering if anyone had any experience with the 5, specifically is it more accurate than the Legion slide/barrel and is it as reliable as the stock setup? My legion runs great with any ammo I use, but is less accurate than my other similar guns.
  13. I've been running the MBX mags for about 1500 rounds. I just had the first issue this week running one, and it was pretty bad, multiple hang ups in one mag. Not sure if this is due to the gun being more broken in. I had switched to the polymer rival since it was more reliable than the S. I'm about to order some of the 215 O-rings and try those with the standard mags (with henning pads/MBX guts). If that doesn't solve the issue I'll probably stop using the platform for now. It sucks, because I really like, but have limited patience for malfunctions.
  14. Had a follower tilt and drop a round behind. About done with trying to sort out the caniks. This occurred with the polymer which has been much more reliable than the S. However it is now over inserting MBX mags as well. Polymer had around 7k rounds on it. S is around 3, haven’t been using it at matches due to issues.
  15. Hope that's correct. The gun has so much potential if it can be made 100% reliable. Currently shooting the polymer while I wait patiently for parts...
