Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Since we're talking triggers, how 'bout the Rock River 2-stage match trigger? Anyone running that set-up? Good, bad?
  2. I had Shawn Carlock at defensive edge do my 1100 skeet barrel. Had 4 inches cut off, threaded for chokes & lengthen the forcing cone. All for about $100. Turn around was a couple of days. Perfect, too. His web site is defensiveedge.net.
  3. I was just looking at the Graf catalog trying to decide what bullet type, weight and manufacturer. Another factor is reliability and it was suggested that I buy factory loaded ammo to increase reliability in major matches. I haven't had any failures in my reloads with 25.5gr. AA2230, LC brass, winchester primers, and Graf 55gr FMJBT....but, the gremlin could be waiting. I had loaded the 55gr bullets from Scharch, but heard of some accuracy problems with them (Golded West bullets). Again, thanks for all the input.
  4. I should have been more specific, but the plan was to find the right combo to hit plates at 300 yards. I got the drift and drop ballistics and COD, but thought that I could get away with an across the board load. I'll spend the money for the better bullet, probably hornady 62gr fmjbt. This is for 3-gun shooting, not bullseye. My 55 and 62gr loads in once fired LC brass do well locally up to 200 yds, but I need the edge for the 300 yd shot. It's off to the range soon to test some loads at 300 yards to gain some confidence. Thanks for the help.
  5. Will the 69gr FMJBT that much better than the 62gr FMJBT for 300 yard distance?
  6. Accurate long distance free-hand is tough. I use a 10/22 with 6X24 scope to practice breath control and swing through on distant targets. Use one inch target pasters. Cheap and effective. Also, keep a ballistics card in your range bag to refer to for drop and drift. Takes out the guess work. Now, how far is that target?
  7. I agree with the "Load what you shot" theory. I've got enought things going through my mind during the stage. I don't need to count missed shots, fumbled reloads, targets hit, extra shots, how many targets remaining, etc. Seems that you can dump the remaining rounds at the last string, and have a round or two to make up that last out-of-breath shot.
  8. Got the crony, just haven't had the time to use it. Gonna try this weekend, and do the AR at the same time. Thanks
  9. If you want to save money, try looking into AA2230C powder. It's military pull-down power from .223 rounds. I use it and have great results. About $70 for an 8lb keg. Try Natchez or Graf's for that powder. You can use the data for the Accurate 2230 powder, too.
  10. I run the 12.5 lb spring in the STI with 180gr JHP with 3.9 gr of Titegroup. No frame battering. You could get away with a 3.2 load of Titegroup which will get you into 750 fps or so, (My gun). I'd try the 12.5 to 10 lb range. If the gun feels like the slide is cycling too fast and hitting the frame, go up to the next weight.
  11. What kind of velocity are you getting out of the 3.5 of Titegroup? I've been loading 3.2 of Titegroup with the 180gr JHP expecting to make the Minor PF for production class. Haven't cronographed yet, but it "Feels" right.
  12. Got the Simmons 1.5 X 5 X 20mm today from CDNN and the one piece riser/rings from Brownells. Both for about $50 each. Now, after my hand surgery is complete, it's off to the range. Been running the Bushnell Holosight, but need eyes for the 200 + targets.
  13. My set-up is similar. Used 1100 skeet gun, new synthetic stock, speed spoon, side shell holder, tactical charging handle. Had the vent rib barrel cut 4 inches and mounted Hi-Viz sights. Accurate, reliable, affordable. Bought a lot of ammo with the money saved.
  14. CDNN has the best price anywhere. Bought one today for $49.99. All the chatter on this subject force me to buy it. Thanks.......
