The Future Of The Limited Optics Division in USPSA
andy27al replied to Eidoss's topic in USPSA/IPSC Shooting
I do believe each division can stand alone. Despite the overlap and similarities, there are certainly enough shooters to fill the ranks of both. -
Agree with Noah. I’ve got connectors and springs in mine. Though I do keep full power striker because I hate light strikes. but- the gen 5s have the ability to get the Glock Performance Trigger. Great option that is pretty inexpensive that will also result in 100% reliability

I am not a huge fan of the link style belts but you may like them. Given your need for compactness, it is probably your best option - unless you just want to clip a full size belt onto your backpack or whatever. try to find somebody with one so you can check it out first

If it hits the ground it gets a wipe down. If it gets dirt/mud/sand inside it gets a quick break down and clean.

Excellent example in the video. But it can also be even simpler- I trained target transitions hard during dry fire leading up to a match. At that match, it was obvious that I was making a point to transition faster. Reviewing the videos of a couple stages, I was transitioning a bit quicker and I would say that confirms what I had been training during dry fire

Are you using this for dry fire, live fire, or both?

+1 on the 147s. There is a bit of a cost difference but it’s relatively negligible for what I believe to be a pretty solid improvement. It’s all I will run nowadays for my CO Glock

Going against the grain here, I’m currently using Pro Grip but used some of my buddy’s Petzl liquid chalk at our last match. It’s a bit more akin to normal climbing chalk. although messier, I kind of preferred it. I’m not overly picky on this subject though so I’ll probably revert to whatever I can easily get on amazon

Any feedback on outdoor dynamics? They are partnered up with MPA to work with their new open guns

I’ve noticed that a timer really helps my practice- both live and dry. There are numerous drills that incorporate a timer and allow me to push myself, particularly in dry fire, and learn the speed while maintaining fundamentals through the drills. definitely worth the small investment

Welcome! Lot of good matches within an hour or so of you

The only issue with chasing the S2 is that you will eventually have to really start dropping striker spring weights. I managed to pull off a pretty impressive trigger weigh on my 34.3 but then I started catching the occasional light strike. i immediately moved back to a full power striker spring because the loss of reliability immediately killed any gains I was getting from my “slightly” better trigger

I’ve been looking into the Gold vs Ruby thing. I think I’ve decided to wait until I can compare side by side. I like the idea of ruby better as a dot guy but I’ve also seen where gold may be better

Despite the slight similarities between the two, LO and CO are by far the most popular divisions at the matches I shoot. As has been said above, it will be difficult to argue with what the majority wants to shoot. At the last two matches (in different areas), there was not a single Production, SS, or limited gun in sight. LO also allows people to enjoy shooting an almost-open gun without having to worry about major PF and the complexities it brings with reloading/finding major ammo, tuning, etc.

Quick review on my experience with the MBX Glock mags. 34.3 - full switch to MBX. Steel mag release is a requirement. I tested the stock release just for my curiosity and the mbx mags killed it within 100 rounds. The steel rounds off the top contact area of the stock release. YMMV but I wouldn’t have made it through a match. I had some contact on my slide release at the bottom. One or two of my mags, when seated, slightly contact the bottom part of the release, slightly engaging it at times. It wasn’t 100% an issue but the possiblity was there. I clearanced the factory release. I went with the competition mags that do not have slide lock- but the follower would sometimes catch on the slide release preventing the mag from dropping free. It was not every mag nor every time but it was repeatable if I messed with it. I removed the tab on the mag release to bulletproof the system as a whole. after my slight modifications, they are superior to my Glock mags with extensions in every way (other than price).

I’ve owned both Nighthawk and Wilson. I enjoyed both. I still regret selling the Wilson CQB - it may have been the perfect 1911. Lead times would control my decision between the two if I ordered today

I had some recent issues with my CO 34. I started by replacing all springs, check extractor, checked mags, and used factory ammo. ive got it back to 100% now so any changes can be made one by one to make sure no issues pop up. I also doubt it’s mags, but I would swap in new internals and a check your mag release to rule that out

Viridian Optics (SRO Emulator?) PT Honcho~
andy27al replied to chgofirefighter's topic in Open Pistols
I had the opportunity to shoot one that my buddy put on his Carry Optics setup. It’s held up well through several matches and practice. looks like a solid SRO alternative -
Percent of practice time with one hand shooting
andy27al replied to AxisT23's topic in Handgun Techniques
I haven’t been doing it much lately so of course, my next upcoming classifier turns out to be Close Quarter Standards.. I try to do single and off-hand once a week in dry fire -
When it’s a bit nasty or cold outside, I wear my Salewa Alp Trainers
-
Batteries are pretty cheap and I dry fire most days. So I end up leaving it on and just swapping the battery out well within the estimated lifespan
-
I haven’t figured out how to fit my SRO on my j-frame yet.. in all seriousness, almost all of my pistols have dots. The ones that matter have cowitness irons

I’ve used bladetech and others in the past and in 3-gun. Works fine as others have said. However, be mindful that your hanger matters quite a bit as well. There are quite a few options, make sure to find one that is well reviewed in your budget
