Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The real question is do you want us to give you permission to buy the 2011? I say this tong and cheek but there is some truth to the question. Lets face it, the gun is the tool, the shooter is the skill. You can become the best shooter in the country if you are good enough and as much as I hate to admit, the gun is again, just the thing that goes bang to make you look and sound good. That said.... I have (4) 2011's so far and really enjoy looking at the gun porn on some of the build threads... So, yup you need that one you are looking at... Makes you shoot better, is a great investment, gives you respect, will help you wake up in the morning and have a perfect day, but most importantly, it will make you feel great to own it. That hopefully covers it for you!
  2. When I first picked up my Ltd P-40 I received a mag with it that worked great but needed more for obvious reasons. So I tried numerous other options from "old" SVI, STI and aftermarket replacements. Most worked OK but I was still having intermittent issues.... When the MBX became available thought I would try them as well, since I already tried everything else... Let me give you some sound advise.... Buy the MBX, don't waste your time with the rest. THEY WORK and the gun runs like a sewing machine. You will spend a few more dollars up front, but it is well worth the money and likely will cost less in the long run....
  3. Same here on the cleaning, however my lube oil has a bit of a twist. I use full synthetic boat drive oil. (Bravo Shop, NEO Synthetic) It has the higher viscosity to run in extreme heat and water repellent qualities should the gun get in a moisture situation when shooting. https://bravoshop.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=932

    Loud Bikes

Another fan of "Loud Pipes Save Lives". It is about the tone though, not the decibel. I prefer the sound of the low thump of the twin any day over the mosquito sound of the Sport Bike. I would think that is what the original poster to the other thread was talking about... Other wise it is just UN- American!
  5. Couple of weeks ago I received a call from our Regional ATF to very my recent purchases.(5 guns and 7K Rounds of ammunition all with a 45 day period) The whole conversation was very brief and professional. First question was: Why the purchases? I answered: I shoot USPSA etc, and I want to try 3 gun this year, so I was getting ready for upcoming season. She wished me good luck and that was it. I told my local FFL about it (where I received the majority of the guns when shipped) and he stated it was most likely the ammunition that through up the red flag rather than the guns. I buy from Freedom Munitions and had them shipped to me direct. Bottom line; yea, the Feds appear to be watching. But when the call you it seems to be no big deal just vetting. On a side note, I purchased another gun last weekend at a show and the on line check was just as fast as my local dealer from his shop. It was instantaneous.
  6. We live in a part of the country where most everyone chips in and helps, to the point where we take turns pasting because there is too many people down range at one time. I guess we are lucky. That being said, we ALL have the few that come there to socialize more than work. Too me, I have just accepted it and not let it bother me. I have enough of my own issues to worry about rather than what some one else is doing or not doing. Unless you are seriously hard pressed to get the job done, move on in my opinion, it is easier to go through life relaxed than looking for every stress point. maybe this should be posted in the Zen section.
  7. Went and "heated up the gun again today" It took longer before it started to FTE. 6th Magazine today. Getting better. Thank you for the help, It is reassuring when you have others experiences to help you through a rough start!
  8. I just bought a STI Apeiro, took delivery this week. I too am having the same issue. I am running Freedom Munitions reloads. 40/165. For me, it is happening after the 2nd or 3rd magazine ran through it and then about every 5-6 rounds after that? I was wondering if the heating up of the gun has anything to do with it? Is this something I should contact STI about? This is my 1st STI and realize there is a learning curve. But It can certainly be frustrating when trying to find that "normal" point.
  9. Purchased mine from the Attic in ND, made it to my FFL, yesterday, on way to pick it up now.... Anticipation...... (the song in my head) Or is it just the voices...
  10. I am responding to this in general terms. Not specifically for just shooting. 1) You have to be the "type" of person a sponsor would like to represent their brand. Not necessarily do you have to be the best in the field, but you must be a good salesman on their behalf. Promoting their product in the best light. 2) you have to present your sponsors professionally. ie: attitude, cromroderie, product placement, and be willing to be available for them when they need you. 3) You need to have the "look" they are wanting to present their product. Clean kept (Personal hygiene) is many times one of the most important things. I would like to say being a "pretty person" does not matter, but in all reality, they will always have a step up on the rest of us. Being the gender or race they are trying to reach will also be a plus. This is a 24/7 position so if you like to celebrate after a match or event, remember... You still represent everyone that is supporting you. 4) Be able to give the sponsor you are soliciting a "business plan" of what your goals are, How you can present their product in the best light and basically what you can do for them now and in the future. There is many more things you will need to do, be realistic in your goals and needs from the sponsor and realize, you need them way more than they need you. And always remember, getting the sponsor is ALWAYS easier than keeping them at renewal time.
  11. I contacted the seller direct and made contact with their buyer direct. He was very nice to talk to and told me the history on the guns and what they had done with them since they were purchased for resale. He sent me pictures of the exact gun I would be purchasing. It had a stippled grip, showed holster wear and some dis-coloration. Overall the gun looked to be in good condition but cosmetically I expected it to look better. He also told me, he would replace the springs and sites in the gun right away. But stated; they do shoot as good as you would expect them to. Like I said he was helpful and didn't hide anything when I asked my questions. So if you buy the gun, you will get what you expect when you receive it... Honestly I am still on the fence. I look at a gun that is 15+years old, regardless of the quality when built, it is still that old I still wonder if today's technology would trump the technology from then??? I understand a "new" SVI is is at least double the price and obviously the top of the line today. But is the gun we are questioning about here, that good in today's standards compared to a new STI? ie: Eagle or Edge. Because you are at the same price point when you add in the upgrades needed on the older gun. Even through Dawson with a couple upgrades were only really talking a hundred dollars or so difference for either STI? I have heard a few people state this is a great gun to get started in 2011 chassis? But I already have the Para Pro Custom which runs and works great,(For 1/2 the cost of these) so for me, I want this to be a true stepping stone to the next level of gun. So many decisions......
  12. This is my hobby, and my hobby makes me happy. I want to keep it that way. So I am a bit of a prude when it comes to inclimate weather. ie: I prefer comfortable, not crappy... I want a good experience, and look forward to going, not feel like it is a chore. I support those that have the passion and applaud them for their persistence. They are the ones that teach us hobbiests how to be better. Because if you have the passion, you will put in the time to be the best of the best!
