Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I tried one to join a 20 and a 32 round Metalform Colt style magazine. Both were used magazines that were flawless in factory form. Put the 32 on the bottom and the short spring into the 32 round tube. Running the follower up and down with a paint stirrer stick, the follower would catch on the down stroke, but never up. Disassembled and put a heavy 45 degree chamfer on the front and rear bottom edges of the follower. Reassembled and the follower ran smoothly. 52 rounds load easily with a Lula. Off to the range. Rifle is a RRA factory gun with a Geissele SSA. First round stripped from the magazine and loaded every time. Unfortunately, there was at least 1 and often several failures to feed in the first ten rounds of each trial. Trials stopped after a double feed that needed a bench and tools to clear. The magazine had no failures in the final 40 rounds during any of the trials. My my theory is that the springs aren't strong enough to lift that heavy stack of bullets while the bolt is back. Lighten the stack to 40 rounds and all is well. Going to swap out the the spring from the 20 round magazine with another 32 and try again.
  2. Thanks guys. I'm not morally opposed to d&t the slide, I just haven't seen anything commercial that attaches that way. Another friend has suggested a cap screw with a sleeve that should do the job, if not especially handsome. Drop in like the glock pieces would be perfect, but I haven't seen anything like that either. I'll keep looking.
  3. Thank you Pat. I was hoping for a solution that wouldn't require a mill though....
  4. Psoriatic Arthritis has destroyed the grip strength in my left hand. I need to put a slide racker on my Kimber Stainless Target II. Problem is, everything I see goes into the rear sight dovetail, and I really want to keep my irons... Is there anything out there that will do what I need?
  5. I've had one canceled since I started shooting the 627. The 09-04 at 83% while I was still a C.
  6. I load the Lee 358-150-1R in Long Colt brass. It's a 1R round nose that loads very short. Not much different than 2R 160's in Short Colt brass.
  7. Both Rooster Jacket and the Lee Liquid Alox / Johnson's Paste Wax blends dry hard and fast. The sticky mess is a thing of the past.
  8. Trading dollars for time is certainly an option... if you have the dollars. I cast in time that would otherwise be wasted watching TV or surfing the net. A Lee 6 cavity mold will give me ~540 bullets an hour running the mold on a 40 second cycle. Add another half hour for various touch time (set up, etc.) and film lubing. Then compare to the cost of purchased projectiles and I earn a decent hourly rate casting my own. Oh, and I'm never "out of stock." We all make choices.
  9. I load the Lee 358-150-1R in .38 Long Colt as cast using Lee Liquid Alox / Johnson Paste Wax film lube with no leading issues whatsoever. My loads are just over a 140 PF. ETA: The Lee 6 cavity molds and film lubing will put a mess of bullets on the shelf in very short order.
  10. I sent 5 applications in together on the 8th for the Sunday afternoon slot and haven't heard yet. Getting concerned... I know Jeff wants the applications from folks that want to squad together in one envelope to make his job easier, but this match fills up so fast that the few days getting everyone's applications together could mean we don't get to shoot. I'm thinking next year everyone sends seperately to save the time.
  11. Yes, this one. The question is, when the higher percentage score drops out of the most recent 8, does that D coded score become viable again? Example: I shoot clasifier 06-04 at 67%. 4 matches later I shoot the same classifier at 64%. When the 67% drops out of my most recent 8, does the 64% become eligible for use in my ranking or is it once excluded, always excluded? I would think that it would become eligible for inclusion, but there are plenty of rules in this world that make no sense to me.
