Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Lucky guy, I got no shooting goodies for Christmas this year. I did et a pair of socks that I guess could probably be worn at the range!
  2. I would have to go back and check out the specifics but I made a few for my own use, practising with the coach gun, BUT they should be just fine for the VM also. I left the old primers in so if you want hammer fall protection, well start engineering! I used two lead bullets per round which were inserted into each end of a length of fuel hose. The length was such that it was only slightly snug for the crimp and the slight compression of the bullets in the rubber ends kept things stable and gave reasonable weight. Its great due to cutting some parts length to critical dimensions is not necessary. The cost of these were almost non existent, for me, as these parts are from my normal reloading expendables in the gun and leather room. I use thet rubber hose for making a western holster tensioning devise BUT the hose is a cheap purchase for anyone shopping at Tractor Supply (or an auto supply store). Common sense tells me that it would be no great feat for the laser target folks to develop a system by which we could practice our reloads with a laser unit that would also add dry fire targeting to the practice. If the pistols and rifles already have trigger reset systems to make this possible then shotguns could easily follow, no???
  3. My favorite carry holsters were made by David Elderton and he was big into the various 1911 styles. I have one for my Gold Cup that is at least fifteen years old and still going strong. Here is the only link I can find BUT think that after many problems his business might now be defunct??
  4. I have saved all of your recommendations and thank you all for them. The Taccom Rifle version has really caught my attention. My youngest grandson turns 18 a week before Christmas so I am going to swap out my Chiappa 22 upper to a polymer lower and give that to him for his combo present. I also have a spare ultra light aluminum lower that I would like to try on a new ,22.
  5. I am thinking that slide lock would be rather difficult (and expensive) to achieve, due to the need to get the slide to move back into that locking position. Possibly could be done by CO2 or other gas but?? In my experience one of the airsoft pistols weak points is frequent failure to lockback and even the quality .22s seem to be somewhat less reliable in lockback than its larger caliber relatives. There will always be some drills that are just more practical to perform at the range. I thinks that half the cost of an actual firearm seems really high for a couple of plastic insert parts BUT I think the SIRT just might cost as much or more than the actual firearm which it represents?? This new technology pricing might not have gone down but I do think we are seeing better offerings at the same prices that the earlier products, of lower quality, were selling for!
  6. I am currently looking at two makes of AR 22 uppers in pretty much the same format. One is by Tactical Solutions at $600, while the other is put out by DPMS and only runs $419. Both are in the flat top with floating forward hand guard versions. They both seem to have very high ratings with naturally a lot more users reporting back on the DPMS but also interested in other quality recommendations. Either way I plan to build a light weight lower to go with my selection. If anyone can add input/ideas to this please jump in.
  7. I am seeing some talk concerning gong from dry fire to laser practice. Seems there are some really interesting coputer target systems being offered now that allow stand and shoot type stages similar to what could be done at a range. Sirt and actual gun conversions are currently offered for this. Best I can figure is that you would likely be limited to rifle and pistol, without mag changes, but you will have the ability to review sequence, hits and time with some. The mag changes, shotgun loading, etc would be better handled the old fashioned way with dummy rounds on a separate training session.
  8. You guys have enticed me to make a move, today I will order the laser muzzle insert with target combination package as my Christmas present to 'ME'. If after a few weeks play I am satisfied with the quality I will add another one to complete my pair of cowboy .45 six shooters. THEN I will consider the conversion ofr my MP PRO Model and a computer target system. For what it is worth, I purchased the LaseLyte system (9mm laser chamber insert, plus target) and two of their barl inserts a couple or so years back and considered it as being of cheap toy quality and as such gave it to one of my grandsons. I do like my Big Bird Smith and Wesson airsoft clone but only after swapping over to the more expensive CO2 magazines. I do not understand why kids can recharge their magazines with canned air and then load a full line of tiny rubber BBs without dropping a one but both operations are a nightmare for me. The CO2 fixes one part of this so you might want to see if that option is available for your brand. Once I get it loaded, it is fun to blast away at the little airsoft targets. I currently have a few sheet metal zombie targets, a teeter totter and a Texas Star style airsoft targets. I love the moving targets!
  9. Look at this. http://www.aimtechsystems.com/laser-marksman.html I was told that if you had the PRO Model, just specify your barl length and possibly the mag length (not sure why?) when ordering. I found this after seeing some guys bragging on their computer targeting game/system on one of the cowboy sites. I am sure they were using the barl-end laser with their six-shooters but claimed these to be worlds ahead of the Lazerlyte(?) product quality, either of which leaves a lot to be desired with autoloaders. The SIRT does look awesome but based on remarks I think I will hold off and go with the cowboy version by aimtech for Christmas. I do have the cheap Big Bird CO2 airsoft copy of the MP, fun but has encouraged trashy play BUT that is my fault. I have well entered the second childhood phase of life!
  10. The SIRT really looks nice but the proof is in the pudding so I will watch a bit longer. At this time Aimpoint is claiming to offer a SW MP Laser conversion priced at $300 +/-. Not knowing which model it would fit I finally got an email response from someone claiming to know. He said that I would need to specify barrel length and (I think) magazine length for the longer barled pro model. They also have a couple of interesting computerised target practice programs. I also can say that I read about the Aimtech on one of the cowboy sites a few months ago and at least a couple there were bragging on the system (YMMV)??? http://www.aimtechsystems.com/laser-marksman.html
  11. I am looking at two 9mm barls, both by Storm Lake, one listed as a target barl and the other is just a barl. I guess my biggy is that there is only five dollars difference between the two while both say minor fitting by a gunsmith may be required. How likely is the need for fitting and is there really a difference that can be had for five dollars? Almost forgot, I am actually just buying a barrel to allow converting my 40 between 40 and 9.
  12. WOW, need some catalogue links for those tubes there young feller. At 5'5'' it will not be a problem for me BUT after watching this I really fear that you tall knuckle dragging built guys might feasibly get in trouble with this long tube set up on the short barl shotguns. Are you doing something to prevent wrapping the fingers around that tube, just ahead of that short barl when shooting under pressure?
  13. The spotty feedbacks has held me back. I am willing to gamble in a nickel or dime game but these and the drums are more like high stakes roll-um! Boys, its #ell to be on a fixed income where a $60 mistake might make the difference in whether one can afford this months supply(2) of them little blue pills! .
  14. Are they somewhat universally holster friendly?
