Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Tossing my set up out there in hopes that it helps somebody else who may be struggling with all the options out there. Parts list: NFA upper/lower. JP 9mm Tactical Compensator JP 9mm Barrel 14.5" JP 9mm Bolt Blitzkrieg hydraulic 9mm buffer with JP rifle spring Vltor A5 Tube Hiperfire 24c trigger Strikefire lower parts kit with some of their upgrades. Several Glock branded 31 round mags. Taccom splice is on the way. Keeping track of my trigger reset, I worked the charging handle several times and marked where the trigger reset each time. Started plugging up the long A5 tube based on the measurements I collected about the trigger reset. I wanted the bolt to come back just far enough to reset the trigger 100% of the time. This is what worked for my rifle with ALL credit going to Max and his excellent recommendations. Stuffed 3 quarters at the rear of the A5 tube. Wave spring next. (I ordered the 5 pack from Amazon and have extras if anybody wants to pay for shipping) Plugged a KAK buffer nipple in. Then came the JP rifle spring and hydraulic 9mm buffer Went to the range with 60 rounds (limited sample size.) and several different magazines. No failures. Action was fast enough and flat enough for me. Far faster than I can shoot it. I'm not a good shooter by any means. Was using 124gr Berry's round nose in the video with some CFE pistol. They were loaded to 1.13" I didn't experience any issues. These passed the plunk and spin test in the JP barrel easily. I suspect I can load significantly longer than most folks in this thread. last round bolt hold open does not work, but that was completely expected with how far I plugged up the buffer tube.
  2. Thanks so much! have you seen one sell recently?
  3. Daniele, Thanks so much for your time. I believe your 627-pc is the same model that I have. My obviously has flutes on the cylinder. After some additional research, I suspect your catalog# is 170116 and likely has serial# BDMxxxx and my catalog# is 170089. I'm going to get a call into S&W tomorrow to confirm.
  4. Heres a picture of where I thought the serial number should be. It says 627-pc and then the number "844" I took the grips off and this same 844 number is repeated near the bottom of the grip. There appears to be a serial number on the underside of the grip. RJM08xx Thanks for all your help guys. Let me know if I can provide anything else.
  5. Hey guys, Mike here. Looking for help identifying what this is and an approximate value. I bought it at an estate sale, I don't have a lot of info on it. It did not come with a box. Its a 627, 8 shot. It does not have a lock. When I open the cylinder, where I'd expect to see the model and serial number (at least on a new smith) - I only see 627-pc, no serial number. The left side of the barrel says Performance Center. The right side of the barrel says .357 Mag-8 Times. The trigger and hammer are jeweled (unknown if at factory or if by a gunsmith afterwards.) I looked on GunBroker and saw this, but it has a lock and the writing on the left and right side of the barrel are reversed versus what is on mine. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/670860224 Any ideas what it is and what it's worth?
  6. All, I sincerely appreciate your help. You're all correct, it's a 40 magazine. I feel extremely humbled. Also, my sincerest condolences. Good luck getting the image of my white legs out of your heads. Note: Need to find a friend in need of 140mm .40 magazine.
  7. Hey guys, Mike here. I bought a Trubor in 38 super. Went to Dillon and bought superComp brass. Made a few dummy rounds to see if the extractor would latch onto the small-ish rim. Good news: The extractor grabs onto the rims just fine. Bad news: The magazine doesn't. At the moment, if I push a round down into the magazine, it just pops out the top. I tried a few different cases, to rule out any imperfections in the case. Please see attached picture. Do I dare bend the rear lips of the magazine inwards a bit? Are there special magazines that need to be purchased to run 38 super comp cases?
  8. Ordered some clips - will load up some .356 projectiles and give it a whirl when the clips arrived. Thanks so much for everybody's help.
  9. Thanks so much guys. I paid $850 for it. Don't know if I'm on the right side of that. I just reached out to Tom @ TK custom to get some clips. What about bullet diameter? Anybody have any suggestions or have slugged their S&W 38 super barrel before?
  10. No box, no accessories. Was the pistol only. Do you happen to know a model # for the clips? Or aftermarket ones? Worst case, i should probably be able to cal S&W when they open tomorrow morning.
  11. Hey guys, Looking for some help with an impulse purchase. I picked up a 686-7 in 38 super yesterday. I'd never seen/heard of one. It did not come with any accessories. I rushed down to Dillon and picked up some Starline 38 Super +p brass. The brass rocks forward and back in the chambers. The extractor does not catch the (admittedly small) case rims. The cylinder does not appear to be cut for moon clips. 1. Does this model require moon clips to run? 2. Is it unusual that the cylinder doesn't appear to be cut for clips? 3. Is there a particular style of moon clip that I need? 4. I've never slugged a barrel before. Does anybody else have this model (or another S&W 38 super barrel?) and have slugged theirs? Should I be using .355, .356, .357, or even .358 projectiles? Does anybody have a favorite?
  12. I've been searching the forums for a while, please forgive me if this has already been asked. Does anybody have any preferences for bullet weight in their 9mm 5.25 XDM? Just punching paper for now. About to place a bulk order for Montana Gold's, wondering if anybody has a preference for 115 vs 124 vs 147. Have access to Bullseye and Hodgdon's Universal Clays powder. Would love some input on a starting load/length. Thanks, Mike
