Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've had good luck with Tripp mags.
  2. I normally shoot mixed headstamp .40 and chrono check occasionally to make sure I am USPSA legal. I have not seen enough of a difference to be concerned over the last 4 years for general shooting. That being said, for the last two years, when I go to major matches I buy matched headstamp brass, so I don't have to worry about slight variations in internal volumes.
  3. I'm interested in hearing how this ends up getting resolved. If it is not gunk in the adaptor, the case must be hanging up somewhere else--is the cam arm moving fully forward (wondering if the case is not making it past the shelf to a point it can drop).
  4. I took a class with Ben Stoeger once and he shot a stage then had us make a stage plan for him that was very different (still had to be reasonable--we basically had him shoot it the opposite way). His hit factor was about the same--and the point he was trying to make was that you need to put together a quick plan that makes the best use of your current skills and shoot it. Worrying about small changes isn't worth the effort. I have stopped paying attention to other shooters stage plans and just shoot the one I came up with even if it is completely opposite what everyone else is doing.
  5. I've gotten comfortable with the "forever" feeling of the first shot--now when I don't have that I get nervous that I pulled that shot. I have the same feeling after a long movement coming onto the first target--I have to recite to myself "wait, wait, wait...OK" before I shoot or I will have a mike.
  6. Indoor match two days ago--dropped a mag when I wasn't planning to and tried to re-plan the stage on the fly rather than just reload and get back on plan. The new plan worked OK and the time was good, but I had 8 mikes--just because I was thinking and not letting myself shoot.
  7. I like this idea to make you aware of what is going on, but I wouldn't spend much time with a gun that I was not competing with (like mentioned about bad habits develop).
  8. That is a nice set up. I have a RF100 also and it is great. Mine was set up fine out of the box.
  9. I use a basic "Shooting Chrony" (http://www.shootingchrony.com/) and it's simple and good enough. I've had three (shot the first two). The first two were right on line with what I was chrony'd at during major matches, but this latest one is consistently 2-3 pf units low. Because it is consistent, I don't have any problems with it (I was really close at a major once before I knew, so I'd suggest you compare to a friend's unit whenever you get a new one).
  10. I use the USPSA kit and haven't had any problems with it.
  11. I think noylj was hitting on this, but what does the inlet into the die look lie? With the shaving result you show I'd expect there to be a sharp edge along the inlet ring instead of a nice rounded/chamfered profile. For what it's worth, I don't use lube either (my friend harass me for it, but I've never found I needed it).
  12. I've switched between a few guns. It usually doesn't take that long, but give yourself some time before a major to where you feel confident you are switched over. You may be fully physically adapted and ready, but if you are close to a big match you will have a question in your head that will mess with your sub-conscious and cause some doubt.
  13. I'm on #3, but the good news is that I have plenty of spare parts now.
  14. I use xtreme 180 gr RNFPs and find them plenty accurate in my 1911s. I think that some gun/barrel combos are picky (I had a friend who's 1911 did not like xtremes (would tumble them no matter what he tried), so he just found a bullet that worked).
  15. Same here with the exception that I use Springer Precision base pads for mags I use for USPSA.
