Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. For more consistency I have Zip Tied a cheap Aquarium Bubbler to the reservoir. A little shaking helps a lot. When not loading turn it off. Bob R
  2. I have had a steel Spring Clip used for holding bundles of papers together clamped on the top of my rod for years, works great. I never thought about a shell case with lead for weight. Bob R
  3. My first was a 450, which has changed hands twice since I owned it, and is still in use. I sold my first 550 and replaced it with two newer 550's not 100% if B or C models. They have holes for the Needle Grease Gun Tip. I have one set up for 45GAP and the other for 38 Special at the moment. They can be set up for 45acp, 44 Magnum, 480 Ruger, 357 Maximum, 40 S&W / 10mm, 9mm, or 300BO in a few short minutes. Non of mine have been back for any repairs. I have replaced a few small parts, and I have done some up grades over the years. One thing I have done is add a Wal-Mart Aquarium Bubbler, Zip Tied to the powder measure reservoir. I have it on a switch. This seems to work very well keeping powder drops the same. I have no plans to move up from the 550. It loads everything I need it to load. I have a Lee Cast Iron Classic and a Rock Chucker for larger Rifle Cases. I am 100% sure that you will love it. Bob R
  4. I have always used the Dillon Lock Rings. I am starting to change them out to the newer 1" ones. Way handier for adjustments. Bob
  5. The Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club located near Columbia Missouri will be holding an Introductory ICORE Match on 1 November 2015. If Green Valley seems familiar, it is because that is the home of the Bianchi Cup. Registration will be from 9:00 - 9:45 Match Starts at 10:00 Per Patricia look for 2 Classifier Stages, and 2 or 3 Action Stages along the lines of a USPSA Stage. Maximum Round Count will not be over 24 per Stage. They are getting a Face Book page together "Green Valley ICORE" They are thinking about shooting a Rimfire Division and a Snub Division. Not set in stone so far. If you have a 617 and some speedloaders this might be a good time to dust it off. http://www.gvshoot.com/index.php?page=home This should be a very good match. 6. I set our ICORE Stages up. On the D1's the only time a 6 shooter might be at a slight disadvantage is if the shooter got sloppy, and knew he made a bad shot. On steel an extra round might help out once in a while. Nothing I worry about however. At our Club my ICORE Shooters are also my Defensive Pistol, and Reactive Steel Shooters. A shooter at my range may be shooting a 1911 on Saturday in Defensive Pistol, and a GP100 Sunday in the ICORE Match. Most of the time I set the Stages up Practical Tactical, instead of Run & Gun. I shoot in Classic with a 64 and a 686 I shoot in Classic Rimfire with a 617 Six Shooter using HKS Speed Loaders. I shoot in Limited with either my 610 or 625. I shoot in Club BUG with a 2" 64-6 or my SP101, Both using Jet Loaders. I have no plans for a 627 or 927 any time soon. Over on Revolver Nation they have a Poll about a Limited 6 Division in ICORE. 7. An old post that needed a little more input. I load lots of 38 Special on a 550B. I shoot mainly the Missouri Bullet Company 158 Round Nose with Blue Lube. Like most who do any competition shooting, I load by the ammo can, not the box. As far as I am concerned Dillon makes the only 38 Special dies to use with the 550B. Why? When you start to get lube/lead build up in the Seater die. Just pull the clip. Clean the insides up, and reassemble. This takes about 1 Minute to do with nothing to re-adjust. Crimp Die getting Lube/Lead Build Up. Same deal, pull the clip and drop the guts out. Clean them up, again about 1 minute, and reinstall with no change in adjustment. I cleaned both last night. Seat and crimp in 2 steps is the best way to go. When I started reloading 38 Special, I had a steel RCBS die set. As soon as RCBS Carbide Dies came out I bought them, and gave away my steel die set to a friend getting started. I have now changed to Dillon dies for: 38/357, 40 S&W/10mm, 44 Magnum, and 45acp/45AR. The only pistol cartridge I am loading for without the Dillon dies would be my 480 Ruger, which Dillon does not make a die set for. If you did not see a 9mm listed, the reason is, I do not own a 9mm revolver at the moment. If I get another SP101 9mm or a 929 S&W, I will get Dillon Dies to load 9mm also. 8. We had our monthly 3 Gun Match this weekend at the Big Piney Sportsman's Club in South Central Missouri. Stage 1 Shotgun, was 12 Steel Handgun Metallic Silhouette targets. We had 4 painted Red, 4 painted Blue, and 4 painted Yellow. Reds were engaged from the Red Port, Blue from the Blue Port, and Yellow from the Yellow Port in the Modular Wall System. All was going well untill I made a sloppy hit on the TAIL of a Red Chicken target, and spun it on the stand. You do not want to be looking a Chicken in the face at 15 yards with a cylinder bore shotgun. After wasteing 3 additional shots, I had the light come on that I was just wasteing ammunition shooting at a silhouette facing me on edge. I was having fun even if it was 100 degrees under the staging pavilion. I am not sure how hot it was in the sun, but 100 did not feel all that bad in the shade. With luck our next 3 Gun Match on 13 & 14 September will be a little cooler. Bob R http:///www.bigpineysportsmansclub.com/
  9. I have 2 S&W's that take 38 Moon Clips, and another 5 that load with speed loaders Only. What I have done is sort out the RP and Federal cases for moon clips. The rest go in the Speed Loader Ammo jugs. I have been reloading 38 Special for over 40 years, and I have a healthy supply of brass. If I did not already own a 5 gallon bucket of 38 brass, I would be ordering Starline brass and TK moon clips for Stasrline Brass, or ordering direct from HarthCo. Bob
  10. You might try adding some shims to it also to center up the hammer and trigger. My last half dozen trigger jobs have been on Rugers, and the shims help them. I have not added any to a S&W so far, but my next one I will try them out. Bob R
  11. Welcome aboard from South Central Missouri. If you lived closer we could fix you up. We have both Trap & Skeet Fields, and a Super Nice 36 X 48 Gas Grill to cook BBQ on. Bob R http://www.bigpineysportsmansclub.com/
  12. You have some more economical alternatives to the North Mountain carriers. This set will be in the mail to REB over on the IDPA Forum in the morning. My first ones in Ruby Carbon Fiber pattern kydex. No TecLoc belt loop, but not even close to $35 a pop either. Ready Tac carriers are also much more budget friendly. And like my Big Creek Carriers they are compact, and close fitting, and can be used for concealed carry. I do have a couple North Mountain Carriers for a K Frame. They would be a good choice with a dedicated outer Fabric Gun Belt set up. For thread on the leather pants belt I like some other choices better. Bob R Big Creek Kydex
  13. For speed loaders Comp III's or Jet Loaders. Also a few HKS for Load and Make Ready. I believe Midway has the HKS speed loaders on sale for $7.99 at the moment 8-13-2014. I built these this morning for REB over on the IDPA Forum. Ruby / Blood Red Carbon Fiber pattern kydex. Bob R Big Creek Kydex
  14. I have a 64 as well as a 686. I still use Comp III's with my 686. I have switch from Comp III's to Jet Loaders for the 64. The Jet Loaders are a little smaller in diameter, which helps with cylinder clearance. You can find Jet Loaders at Power Custom, and Pistoleer. For Load and Make Ready get HKS speed loaders. Much Cheaper than the Spring Driven ones. I had Ron Power (Power Custom) dovetail my 64 for a Novak 1911 Fiber Optic Front Sight. I can see it. You will also probably want to get the Cylinder Chamfered when you get a chance. Springs, Shims, and some polishing should help the trigger. Bob R
  15. My wife is from out your direction. She grew up in Oshkosh. Good to hear you are jumping in, and getting started. Bob R from South Central Missouri
