Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Not quite the same. A factory 9mm round has about a 133pf verses a factory 45 which can have a 180 + pf.
  2. Paul B is correct, only in a supported (ramped) barrel. Here10mm_Automatic_SAAMI.pdf is the SAAMI spec for you.
  3. If it is a crack it will likely propagate (grow). That is not a normal area for a crack, just keep a eye on it and you should be fine.
  4. The USPSA membership is aging so the move to CO is warranted due to our eyes! Primers are hard to come by so some are shooting CO until primers/bullets come back.
  5. There is enough gas to run a comp on the 45 ACP, running a Hycomp (Schuemann ribbed Comp Barrel) makes a big difference. Two ports sized correctly will do the job. I would recommend going to a 2 port version, comps are not designed based on gas but Fluid Dynamics. I used to run a Tribrid 9mm in 3 gun at a PF of 140-145 and my six inch gun ran like a sewing machine. My concern with the extended barrels and larger comp is the extra weight on the lower lugs. Being a unramped barrel the additional stress on the lower lugs are likely to shorten the life of the barrel. When ever someone wanted to build a surpressed 45 I would recommend a Clark/Para or Wilson/Nowlin ramped barrel to help support the additional weight. Nice to see someone working outside the box, my two cents worth if it helps.
  6. Tony was a great gunsmith and a even nice person. Talked to him almost every week on the phone about his customer's guns he was doing and which barrel would be the best one to use. He never stopped trying something new. He made it a point to stop by my shop when ever he was in the Gorge. He will be truly missed. Mike Calloway
  7. I built up a few of these in the past but the last one I did had a newer proprietary sized extractor. It was the only one that I could not get to run due to not being able to get a decent extractor for it. Tauras sent me out another one but it was no better. First thing I would look into, never found anyone that made an oversized one that would work.
  8. I use the Eberlestock rifle backpack. The pack carries all my ammo, water, mags etc. along with the riffle. Its heavy enough that I place it on the ground pointing down range and pull the rifle out without it moving. One and done, not having to carry multiple items. When I bag it I either do it down range or pointed at a berm under the ro's direction and slide it in standing behind it. Works and no one has had a issue with it. https://eberlestock.com/collections/hunting-packs/products/x1-euro
  9. So have you shot it yet , any feed back on the performance? Which buffer system does it run?
  10. Bushing barrels are legal for Limited also the weight difference really comes to play since limited allows 6" guns. Take down of a bull barrel is only easier than a bushing if you have a hole in your guide rod. Bull barrels are easier to fit also. Using a tungsten bull barrel in single stack is not practical due to the weight limit and would require external slide machining to make the weight which is not allowed. The weight of a gun helps to soften recoil, the extra weight in a bull barrel does little to help with recoil especially shooting major. I have a fixture I used to compare muzzle jump on different comps that I was designing which measured the amount of lift of gun after firing. I fix a bull barrel into my SS years ago and tested the gun using both barrels, I could not get any repeatable results between the two that showed a difference. So I believe if you want to use a bull or a bushing the weight and size limit of single stack is enough to control any competitive advantage. My two cents worth.
  11. I have never understood why that rule is still in effect. There is no competitive or accuracy advantage gained between the two barrel systems. It does make it easier for taking the pistol apart. Some folks argue that it is a weight advantage but the pistol has a weight limit and size limit already per "APPENDIX D5 – Single-Stack Division". 7. Maximum size Handgun and all magazines Yes, handgun with empty magazine inserted must fit wholly within a box with internal dimensions of 8 15/16” x 6” x 1 5/8” (tolerance +1/16”, -0”) (8.938” x 6” x 1.625”) (227.01mm x 152.40mm x 41.28mm) 18. Maximum weight Yes, 43 ounces with empty magazine This needs changed.
  12. It is a gen 2 with a 14.5" barrel. I shot the Oregon State match this weekend and another MPX shooter told me that extractor springs need to be replaced every 5k rounds or so. Might very well be my issue. Ordered some from in lead we trust.
  13. Well I really like the way it shoots but it is on the very heavy side even with a lighter hand guard. Around 12k it started having issues and I heard they have a limited life of around 15-18k so that barely makes it through one season so I think I need to find a different platform.
  14. Hard to choose, so many good options out there right now. Everyone has their favorite but switching from the MPX to blow back will be a little different to get used to. I will be shooting factory Atlanta Arms 147 and not reloading due to elbow issues so that is steering me away from a few otherwise great paths.
  15. The JP upper escalated up to $1000 very quickly....... Had a nice chat with Tim at Tacom3g and currently leaning to towards a ultra light barrel with the ESSB and delayed blow back system.
