Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. There's no need to go in debt to get good competitive equipment for 3G. There are more than a few ARs that will definitely do the job without the $$$. Colt, DPMS, Yankee Hill to name a few. If you're looking at the JP, consider Lancer as well, both are great rifles. I have a Mosseburg 930 JM model shotgun. I would have gone with the M2 but it was out of my budget. The 930 runs great but you need to pay attention to it. Like bagdrag, I wondering if you can own components for the mags and mag tubes and assemble them at the matches. If so the magpul and lancer mags dissassemble very easily.
  2. Has anyone ever picked up a pistol (like a 1911 Gov model) that you can rattle in your hand and make a nasty noise? Any wonder as to why nobody uses something that in 3G or USPSA? If fit and finish didn't matter in these guns, the equipment in our sport would be much cheaper. There's a reason that manufactures who guarantee sub MOA accuracy fit the lowers and upper to close tolerances. In my experience the wedge works, the original wedge, not the copied ones. The only time I've seen them potentially cause a malfunction is when they were used in a non-mil spec lower like some of the M&Ps.
  3. All mine (gen 2 & 3) drop free. However I did have a problem with mags not falling free in one of my ARs. Turned out the mag catch needed a little adjusting.
  4. I run my ARs visibly wet, not dripping. I've found too much lube attracts thinks in the trigger group that I don't want there.
  5. I have the comp mag well on my Lancer, and yes sure fires fit. Also, you can interchange the mil-spec, tactical, and comp mag wells if you like.
  6. My vote goes to the ZM comp, very efficient.
  7. Good to hear they took care of you, or at least addressed your concerns. I shoot a JM 930 and if I hadn't I wouldn't be in 3G cuz the M2s were too expensive to complete my equipment. Like others in this post, I've experienced the mag tube issues and was disappointed with other small things. After learning the gun and excepting that it wasn't "3 Gun Ready", that you actually needed to do a few mods, the gun is running great. One lesson I've learned is you need to clean the piston often, like after each match. Smokeclouds issue with loading two rounds on the lifter after removing a camber flag is something I also have experienced. Now I lay the flag across the camber and not in it so I don't need to pull the bolt back too far, never had the same issue since. Besides I hate putting things in the chamber that don't belong there.
  8. Nice upper. I run a Lancer, very nice rifles. Mine has an EFX-A2 stock, and the CMC trigger, both which came with the lower. I thought about the gold trigger and a different stock but after shooting it I ready liked the set up. Prior to the Lancer I've always shot an adjustable stock but now prefer the solid fixed.
  9. Comps definitely help with muzzle rise, or flip as some say, and perceived recoil. There's a reason why the vast majority of 3gunners have comps on their rifles. The added weight of your HBAR may help a little but on the other hand that added weight may slow your transitions once you get running on the stages. There's lots of good comp on the market from the cheap to the expensive. A cheap comp with soft metal with erode quickly. You might also try having that barrel fluted while they're treading it for you.
  10. RockRivers are fine reliable rifles, however I just read the description and am not overly impressed with they're "3 gun comp rifles". Not to say they aren't good rifles but for the money, and upgrades you'd need or want to do, I'd go with something different. My first 3G rifle was a S&W Vtac model, it's light, shoots well, reliable, has a JP trigger and is a nice handling gun. Accuracy, however is at best 1.5 moa. It's a great gun for matches where the longest shot is at 100, beyond that I was out gunned. At that time S&W listed the rifle for $1,800, that price point was (in my opinion) way too much, I wish I had waited. After learning the hard way I bought a Lancer, sub moa, cmc trigger, and a HUGE mag well for quick mag changes. JP is a great rifle, I like the Lancer better partly because they do a lot of LE/Mil business. Check out the Super Comp, I'd buy 12 if I had the $$$.
