Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. What finally helped me with recoil control....was to stop trying to control recoil. That and I do work out daily and especially do grip strength exercises. I don't think about gripping any particular way such as 60/40, gripping hard, gripping lightly. I just hold onto my gun and let the front sight come back on target. This just what works for little old me!
  2. Although I never had a bad problem with the recoil on my 357 LCR I was pretty sure I was over gripping it especially on hot 357 loads. I could tell by my white knuckles and gritting teeth..LOL. I don't use the support hand thumb over the top grip any longer. Neither thumb is touching the revolver. This helps me remain tension free and a lot more accurate with this snubbie. At the end of my range session I will put 25 357 rounds down range and it's still enjoyable to shoot.
  3. I would be interested to know if anyone has the P290 and not the RS model with the re strike capability. I have one and it is a great little pistol with one drawback and that is the trigger pull. At the end of the trigger pull it becomes squishy feeling but still I can be combat accurate with it. I inquired as to the cost of upgrading the trigger and it was $150.00 plus the shipping cost which would approach $200.00. This is about 1/3 the cost of this pistol itself and declined doing this. I have never had a malfunction of any kind with this pistol with factory JHP or FMJ or any of my reloads and it is rated for +P. Does anyone feel the re strike capability is worth the cost? Oh yeah, it is super easy to conceal and I routinely pocket carry it.
  4. Good grief Charlie Brown! They had my XDS for 2 months and 6 days and now it's back and for works better than it did pre-recall. We all have choices and here's mine. Keep it and shut up or sell the damn thing. I will keep mine and would buy from Springfield again. See how easy this stuff is?
  5. I've been grip strength training for about 10 years. This training most assuredly the reason that I am mostly not bothered by recoil. I am 63 but have the grip of a much younger man. Training pays big rewards.
  6. For a while I was fighting a pretty bad flinch at the moment of trigger press. There was really no reason for this but it was happening none the less. Then it struck me.....an old mental trick....While rolling the trigger back try putting a small smile on your face! I swear this works great for me.....it's hard to flinch while smiling.
  7. I have always messed around with my grip on everything. It has always led to me having problems too. It happened in golf and now with pistols and revolvers...LOL! My support hand thumb feels very unnatural way forward like these superb shooters shown above. I noticed a picture of Jeff Cooper holding his 1911. A very high grip with his strong hand thumb resting on the safety and the support thumb resting on top of his strong hand thumb. This puts the grip very high and keeps me from exerting any sideways influence on the pistol. I tried this grip with my XDS (strong side thumb not quite as high here) and it is perfect for me. Although excessive recoil has never been a problem for me....this made it even less of a problem. This also works for my revolver grip therefore they are basically the same which is great for my EDC situation. I am by no means an expert but it seems to works for me. My groups have tightened up a lot.
  8. Since I have acquired the rather costly habit of shooting about 500 rounds a week, I made the rather obvious decision to start reloading my ammo. I shoot a mix of .45 ACP, 9mm, 38 special, 357 magnum and .40 S&W. Next I considered what brand and kind of equipment to use. I found out rather quickly you could spend as little or as much as you wanted to on equipment. I settled on Lee because of basic decent quality at a decent price. I didn't want too basic a unit like the Classic Loader or a complicated one like the Lee Progressive. I was happy tp see that there was a great middle ground...the Lee 4 hole Turret Press with auto index! You can still put out a decent quantity while paying close attention to safety. I will probably being asking a lot of questions of you folks because I really don't want to blow myself up....LOL!
  9. Hi everyone, I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself being new to the forum and all. It looks like there are some very knowledge people that hang out here. I am basically a recreational shooter and starting to reload for the first time. I have always owned long guns but I am fairly new to pistols and revolvers. Once again.....HI to you nice folks!
