Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Are you sure your load was the same? The first target you wrote 3.6 1911. The second target you wrote 3.8 1911.
  2. Open division you are allowed to carry multiple firearms to perform "NY reloads".
  3. Just a question but how are you a GM when USPSA has you as a C? Is that just your classification for those steel matches and has nothing to do with USPSA? Nice shooting by the way!
  4. Not a master or GM but seems to me that you're using the wrong hand. LOL!! Just kidding. Hard to tell but couldn't you scoot your mags up a bit right by the front of your hip bone to reduce your reach a bit? Again hard to tell. Just my 2 cents. Your static reloads look good. In dryfire practice do you practice reloading on the move, since most all reloads in a stage should be while moving? I like to set up two square shooting boxes a few feet apart and practice reloading while moving to the other box and coming into that position on target. May work for you.
  5. Before you try loctite. Get your sizing die where you want it, run a case into the sizing die and with the ram still up tighten down the lock ring then with a wrench. The pressure from the ram being up will help you get it tighter.
  6. +1 A full size 1911 in a galco summer comfort holster is an awesome combo!! I carry it daily and never have a problem with printing under a t-shirt.
  7. Wow, does anyone know if the USPSA has anything going on petition or lobbying against any sort of ban? I'd hate to see the limited or open divisions suddenly get neutered!!
  8. SVI, scroll down and you'll find them http://www.sviguns.com/1101.php?indx=10
  9. As said before, I wasn't there, going off what was posted. If you only made one step and the 3rd shot cracked off before you started to make your 2nd step then it was the wrong call. You should not be DQ'd. No where in the rule book does it say we must be looking at the targets to engage them. Probably won't be very successful if you aren't looking at your target. But you don't have to. The sections above that I made red and bold are what I think are the biggest problem with the "local match" mentality. It doesn't matter what YOU would define it as, It doesn't matter what YOU would consider movement, and YOU sure as hell can't determine the intent of the action. The rule book clearly defines MOVEMENT for YOU. What part of more than one step or a change in position (standing to kneeling, sitting to standing) is hard to understand. RO's have a hard job, can't say I wouldn't stop a guy who isn't looking at the targets and is in the first step when he cracks off a round. I don't know if I have ever counted steps while looking at where they were shooting. But if I stopped you and then realized you were within a step, I would say sorry and issue a reshoot. Sorry if I'm ranting but I find most people in our sport don't know the rules well enough. Not that everyone should be a total expert. Here's the reason for my rant. Last weekends local match guy was shooting the stage gun jams. Guy works on gun, can't pull the slide back, ends up pulling the trigger with the gun pointed at the dirt in front of his feet. To the point the RO jumps 5 feet backward. Guy continues to finish the stage and never receives so much as a warning. I asked the RO why he didn't DQ him. "Because it wasn't unsafe and this is just a local match". RULES ARE RULES. Bend them or inject your definition and you're only hurting yourself or the person you bent them for.
  10. Less is more. No need for another division. If you want to shoot it by all means do it in open. Just cause everyone else in that class is shooting sti 2011 type race guns doesn't mean you HAVE to have that setup to do well. Might not be as easy to be competitive, but if you're looking for the easy way to be competitive you'll be sorely disappointed no matter what division you choose or try and invent.
  11. The answer to your question lies in another question. What kind of sight picture is needed for you to get your 2 A zone hits? You need to be able to adjust throughout the various targets during the stage. On close targets I don't even see the sights and point shoot them with my natural point of aim. As range increases or scoring zone decreases (hardcover or no shoots) then I need a more focused sight picture, most of the time both eyes open does the trick and is faster for acquiring targets. When extreme accuracy is needed I then close the non dominant eye. Remember this sport is a balance of speed and accuracy. So you must judge on the fly what you need to do to efficiently get the hits you need. There is no hard fast rule of when this do this.
  12. First of all welcome to the start of the addictive world of competitive shooting. Secondly don't worry about "making an ass" of yourself, as long as you follow all the safety measures and shoot the stages safely you will be welcomed and encouraged by everyone at the match. Every USPSA match that I have shot in, even though we are competing against one another, people are always willing to go out of there way to help each other out!!! I love having new shooters in my squad especially when they aren't scared to ask questions. My first match I was worried about my performance and looking silly in front of the better shooters. I was slow by the clock but shot mostly A's and all the shooters in my squad commented on my shooting making me feel welcomed and like I belonged! I've been hooked ever since! As for practice, I too don't have a good place to shoot. Dry fire practice is all I can do between matches. While it felt silly at first I soon realized it works. In the four months I've been shooting USPSA I have gone from a unclassified to a high C knocking on the door of B class.
  13. I recommend doing whatever works best and feels most naturally for you. If you find a better way don't be afraid to try it. LAMR is off the clock so whatever you method you choose don't feel the need to rush it. I'm a single stack shooting major. So I have a 7 round mag and then an 8 round mag in my cargo pocket. I barney up with the 7 and then load my 8 round in. That is my ritual and it works for me.
