  1. I agree with Sarge's comments about the barrel and mag release but if you're dealing with a Glock for competition, Bobby Carver is really the best there is. SJC has some nice products but Bobby is incredible for customer service and responsiveness. Extremely knowledgable about the Glock in USPSA and GSSF applications. He helped me with an open gun this year. You may want to search his name on the glocktalk forum. Here's his website as well. http://web.iwebcenters.com/bbenterprise//?or_id=&cu_id=&st_id=bbent12869a75de
  2. Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Sarge and Wide45 were especially on point. I am glad I took out the open gun but it would have been better to have had more rounds through it. I found that my 12# spring was too light. Had a few FTEs and was dropping mags because my grip was pressing the mag release. All things that could be worked out with practice and tuning. Right now, th gun is faster than I am capable. I'm ging to try and be disciplined and go back to production until my accuracy and quickness justify the equipment. It sure was fun, though. Will be a great motivator to improve my prod classification quickly!
  3. I'm sure that is good advice. I just wonder if there is effect (positive or negative) of switching early on.
  4. Hey all - pretty new to practical pistol competition. Have shot 3 USPSA matches this summer and a couple GSSF. I'm hooked. I knew early that I had to have an open gun and I had the opportunity so I had Bobby Carver build one for me. Now I have that in my hand and its like money burning a hole in my pocket. I have a match tomorrow and am trying to decide if I stick with production, work on fundamentals, continue toward a classification etc. Or, do I go ahead and go to the dark side now? I'd eventually like to be classified in several of the divisions. It's a catch-22 - I probably have no business having an open gun this early in my USPSA career but, then again, everyone has to start somewhere. Thoughts?
  5. I thought the same thing about 3 months ago. I'm new to USPSA but shot several matches this summer in production and just couldn't resist the allure of the race guns. Like you, I can't afford the the full custom jobs. I would very highly recommend checking out Carver Customs website. Bobby Carver is the best and provides very high quality parts and services to convert a stock glock (and/or XDs) into an open racer. I just got mine back and tried it out this weekend... shoots like a dream. He offers great customer service and is extremely responsive. It was a great experience. I've attached a picture below. Modifications include: C-More 8 MOA red dot sight Carver custom mount thumbrest and slideracker KKM competition barrel with 4 port compensator SJC heavy magwell Carver guiderod and spring radius cut slide and compensator lowered ejection port cerakoted comp and magwell to match All of this came up to around $1600 (not including price of gun). Still need to add trigger job and stippling but she runs sweet right now. Seriously, check out the website in the picture. You won't be sorry.
