Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I think gose and j28s should host the next shooting match in their area together. That could be quite an event. On another note, given powders can be hard to find, it would be nice to have a trading forum to swap supplies.
  2. 231 works for me. Just clean your gun every now and then.
  3. I've got some pretty sweet h4895 loads with this bullet. Standard protocol, start low and work up for your particular rifle.
  4. I've used h4895, varget, and vv n140. I've found all to meter fine with my 550 if I take my time. I have found both very inaccurate as well as very accurate combinations for my rifles with each of these powders.
  5. I'm glad you made that point. I should have been more specific in my post. My understanding is the H and IMR powders despite having the same number labels are quite different. I think that is unfortunate as I think it could lead to errors. I use imr 4831 for my 270 and I have to be careful I don't use h4831 data.
  6. Sorry. Should read reloaders not reloaded. Autocorrect!
  7. I just wipe my brass off and so far I haven't seen a single issue with loading nor shooting. Maybe I've missed something in my reading but I've been advised by some pretty old reloaded that brass doesnt have to be shiny to operate correctly and safely. By all means correct me if I'm wrong however.
  8. I'll probably start with 4895 as I've read elsewhere now that it does well with reduced charges. I'll report back with the results.
  9. Thanks. I'll research the data on these.
  10. I've been very pleased with 231. Use it in 9, 40, 45, 38. I figure the less different powders around the less likely the wrong powder will end up in finished ammo. Dirty? Just clean your gun more often. I've learned a ton about how my firearms work just through disassembling them for cleaning.
  11. I'm looking for any experience with light recoil 308 loads. I'd like to find a recipe for 125 gr bullets to be used for some small competitions as well as for youth hunting. Obviously the particular bullet might be different but I'm looking more for any powder recommendations. The only info I have found for light recoil loads is with h4895. I have plenty of varget if anyone has any experience with this powder. Thanks
  12. Thanks graham. I'll contact Thompson.
  13. I don't know what open uspsa is. I'm new to the forum. I started using this forum to learn more about reloading so I can do more shooting and possibly enter some contests. Where is the appropriate forum for this question? This forum is named open pistols. Sounds like a forum you can post pistol questions in. Thanks.
  14. I've read you can shoot 38 special as well as 357 mag in a 357 max 10 inch contender barrel. Some say you should not do it however due to it somehow damaging the barrel. I'm looking for first hand input. Anyone out there have this barrel and shoot 38 specials. I want to use the max for hunting but the 38 for fun plinking as I have a ton of 38 light loads. Thanks.
  15. I might try the millet. I'd go $200 or so if needed. I just don't want to go real high dollar as I've never used a red dot and am not sure if I will even like it or not for hunting.
