Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Food for thought. S/A 700 magbox and a 243AI(left) and a 6mmRemAI(right),both seated with a 105A-Max at 2.815" COAL which is typically the limits of an OEM box. 105 A-Max alongside, for full extrapolation.
  2. Other than the fact that there is no such thing as a Leupie 8-15x in any objective size?
  3. Photography is always interesting, because there are lots of different takes on it and everyone's perspective/appreciations are different.
  4. Cant find it that cheap, where are you getting it? I'll let you sniff a bit, then I'll hook you up. PMC if you can stand it,is under $30 per 1K. Should have told me, I found it for $65.00; sniff a bit. You assuredly didn't find O/F R/P that's polished and delivered to your doorstep for $65 per 1K. It ain't my first rodeo.(grin)
  5. I'm running & gunning Outdoors and in ambient light. I never bought into the DOF/Bokeh hype either and when I wish to decrease DOF and blow out the background ala Bokeh,I simply swing fast glass and do so. But I've the luxury of shooting all 3 sensor sizes,so don't fall for any ruses. Controlled lighting in a studio setting is very forgiving of bodies and how they meter on the fly and to their AF capabilities. As to the 24-70,I prefer the 24-105 and will eat a stop of light to garner IS and another 35mm of focal length in the exchange,as those are great trades. One needs to gun a couple stops faster than 2.8 anyhow, for marked separation and a good body will happily compensate the 1 ISO bump difference between the two max apertures. As a rule I prefer 24-105 IQ over the 24-70's to boot. The 7D is a very capable body, yet a touch noisy for my tastes. It's AF blows the 5D/5D2 out of the water,as well as that of the 40/50/60D lineage. I much prefer the '3's files. '3 Bokeh is easily arranged,in conjunction with DOF control. Hand held,ISO 100,F/1.4 and 1/60.
  6. I can't agree with that. That rifle is probably the least cost effective gun they sell. The 700P and 700 5R have the same action and as good a barrel (sans fluting) and a better stock for a lower price. Plus, all the 700 .308s (with one exception) are 1:12 twist which pretty much maxes you out at 175gr bullets. That looks like the work of One Eyed Mac at Excorio. A 1-12" will stabilize bullets of greater length than the 175SMK and easily. That being said,10" is my favorite 30cal twist irregardless of chambering, though I've a host of 11.25/7's and 12's also. For hedging a bet a S/S Remmie spout is routinely of smoother interior finish than it's CM offerings and S/S wears better too. I'd never suffer CM,with S/S being an option. Too bad they don't make the LTR in S/S,as it would then be a viable Hard Use Utility Rifle. All the 700 stocks suck, with the VLS beavertail being the best in regards to ergo's. The PSS/LTR handles are horrid. In the end...barrels are cheap, donors abound and good stocks easy to score,so it is often easy to build for very modest funds and have complete control over the particulars. A guy can have his cake and eat it too.

  8. I'd stay 260 or 260AI,feed it via DBM and bank on it's ability to slip conditions better due to the speed increase and yet not concede COAL "advantages" inherent in the Creedmor's shortened hull. Tough to beat the logistics associated with feeding something via 308Win hulls and sizing a false shoulder out of the gate for finite headspace control, very much interests me anyhow. I'd never trust a Factory to crank ammo out as good as mine and complete control of seating depth in relation to a given throat is what bears the most fruit anyways. It's very easy to arrange an exceptionally accurate platform and there's lots of ways to skin that cat, both over the counter and in Custom builds. Food for thought and touching upon an over the counter barreled action(LTR 308),dumped into a sound stock(M40A1 return handle). Virgin Lapua hulls, partially neck sized for consistent neck tension and 155 Scenars stuffed to mag constraints of the OEM box(meaning a loonnnggggg jump to the lands) on top of '15. I purposely left some doors open,if only to promote discussion. And noone hates 308's more than I.(grin)
  9. I'm privvy to the 1DX hype/unveiling,with Beta units being in hands now and would lament the loss of the APS-H sensor out of the gate. Never was seduced by the FF hype...but I shoot all 3 of Canon's DSLR sensor sizes and prefer APS-H to FF or APS-C. The 7D is their best APS-C DSLR body, but it can't hang with the '3,as I've shot it quite a bit. That despite numerous software/processing upgrades over the now "antiquated" '3. I prefer '3 IQ over the 5D2 efforts at same and the 5D2 is a literal pig in the AF department which disqualifies it fort any serious consideration by me. I've shot it quite a bit too and in conjunction with the 70-200 IS 2,trying to give it all the advantages. I think I shoot a lot of bodies and the '3 has an uncanny knack to meld a host of attributes on the average and is less concession in final the exchange. I'd call that win/win,which is the best of things.
  10. The 1D3 is certainly capable of capturing stunning images and do steal the thunder from most bodies in their line up,of which I've owned more than a few.
  11. As P&S goes the G-12 is the cream of the crop. My main DSLR body is a 1D3 and it continues to impress and I much prefer it to my 1Ds. The AF,buffer and frame rate are incredible and it simply soaks colors. Shot this a couple days ago with a 100-400L aboard the '3.
  12. Another Sleeper. S/S s/a 700 wearing PacNor 3-grooved 1-8" at 21". Throated to kiss the 75A-Max in the HS DBM and a 40X trigger,McMillan Classic handle. Sleepers hurt feelings, which is why they are so much fun.
  13. Biggest 1k+ Sleeper. Kimber Montana 223AI,Mike Rock 1-7" in OEM contour dupe at 21". She has a knack for slapping heavyweights around and making them look silly.
  14. Aforementioned 223 LTR punched AI. A5,Badger M4,Badger rings/20MOA rail,Badger knob. Throated longer than my others and kisses the 75A-Max at 2.510" COAL,fed from an OEM box/follower with spacer moved rearward.
