Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. Nice job Pat! I like the custom mobile shooting bench.
  2. Once again a great Match! I loved the semi surprise nature of the stages. Brought back the best aspects of the SOF matches. It was a lot more relaxing and fun to not have to try to memorize the stages. Five minutes and go is really a good format for me. Made it a lot more fun. Not a big fan of the all day format. It cut into our sporting clays time. But I understand they have to do something to accommodate so many competitors. Well done all! Carl
  3. SOF was my introduction to 3gun. It was extremely humbling. Thank you guys for putting this on, there have been some great matches since but nothing compares to the pain/fun of a no walk-thru match. Carl
  4. I'm on you tube in a few places, 2010 Pan Am games show some reloading. Shawn has an article detailing it in an old Front Site. But the Load two and Quad load are way easier to learn. Great speed in a short amount of time.
  5. The Carlock shuffle came about during the SOF days while looking for an alternative to the weak hand load for us ultra right handed folks. David Neth came up with the shoulder slide in order to keep the muzzle out of the dirt while crawling around. Shawn built from that idea to load four at a time. Shawn's Dad started making caddies for four shells out of Kydex. Shawn then perfected loading four at a time and was way faster than David and I loading one at a time off of the gun. After getting "tennis elbow" or really "shotshell reloading elbow" I was forced into the Carlock Shuffle to preserve my elbow. It's a horrible method to learn, took me years to master it. But no more elbow pain too. As for the discussion on the roll to your shoulder, you don't change your grip with your left hand. That way you never get burned and it's faster to get back on target. Takes a bit of flexibility in the wrist though. Also puts the port right in your face for easy reloading. I have to thank "Carbon Arms" No relation BTW...They just stole my name... For coming up with the load two carriers. For a while there was talk of two gun matches as most folks complained that shotgun was just a reloading contest. The load two/quad load has changed the game. No more talk of two gun matches. Everyone can now load a shotgun with a few minutes of practice. I even have a Carbon Arms carrier on my belt for most stages. Especially good for loading two just after the buzzer or select slug loads. I'm still faster loading eight with the Carlock shuffle, too much muscle memory. All the reloading styles have their own strengths. The key is to pick one that works for you after the buzzer goes off. Carl
  6. Travis came up with an excellent 400 yard target. They were a lightweight designed larger target that moved very well and was easy to see. Best ones yet for match use. Overall the match was a lot of fun. Thank you all that worked so hard on making it happen.
  7. Great match guy's! I liked the half day format, more time for sporting clays.... Great stage layout, Great RO's One of the best ones yet. Really appreciated the great target definition since this was my first time in limited class. Carl
  8. I bet that if you try it again in some warmer weather your gun manipulation will speed up. 23 degrees with that stiff breeze was getting to us all for sure. It will also pay off to add a second gun to your practice regiment. Even if its just one shot add a longgun in and out of a barrel before you shoot your pistol. Carl
  9. I would highly recommend this match. I went a few years ago and was treated great! Ended up being a great vacation with the bonus of getting some match shooting in. We were sent to all the secret tourist spots and were treated to some great home cooking. If it wasn't for the kids tuition payments I would be there again. Carl
  10. Only thing that would make this match better is that the guy that used green tip .556 step up and pay Grant the 100.00$ you owe him for damaging steel. It was mentioned over and over but now they will have to use a magnet on every stage to double check everyone for one bad egg. Otherwise, Thank you Grant and crew for putting on a fun match. Carl
  11. I have fought this for years. Here is what cured it for me. 1. Quit reloading. Bought blazer.. 2. Played weak handed racketball for 1.5 years. 3. Exercised opening my hand with rubberbands for months. Should have quit riding dirt bikes but I can't, so that slowed recovery. Anyway I'm better today, back to strong hand racketball. Still limiting the reloading to be sure. Still playing the 3 gun game at 49 but it takes some modifications in behavior. Also need to go to the gym every day too just to maintain. Bummer.
  12. Cabelas handles a few cases of Mini's at a time or you can order them up with a club clays order. They are lot's of fun with a thrower. Very fast...
  13. I have had great luck with "mini" clays on MGM launchers. They are tough enough to pick back up off the ground and use again if not hit. Yet they are a true targets so you can see if there is one hole in it unlike charcoal. They will also fly high and consistant using a US popper size launcher.
  14. Congratulations to all the winners especially my buddy Patrick Kelley in Manual class!
