Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The front sight is loose, under the slide there is a hole for which I assume the purpose is to stake the FS into place? Short of sending the slide to Beretta or a Smitty, how can I tighten this thing up without having to buy some special tool? Or if I bought new sights should the FS fit into the dovetail without having to stake it? I appologize if these questions are retarded as I am use to working with Glocks. Thanks, Mike
  2. I am looking for a little guidance. I am tied between a Glock Triggers Skimmer which I have used and a Glockworx Standard (tactical). Anybody that has used one what do you think as far as quality and feel? Any malfunctions, pros/ cons? Thanks Mike
  3. I had close to the same problem with a Springfield 1911. With the slide in the locked back position when dropping on a fresh mag the hammer would follow. I had it fixed by Springfield, then it went the way of the great white buffalo.
  4. I think I am squared away, shell holder on the left side for weak hand reloads with primers down. Thanks for the info and vids. Mike
  5. I am wanting to know what is (if at all) the proper placement for a shotgun side saddle for a RHed shooter and what is proper orientation for shells to facilitate faster reloads. Any help would be appreciated before a drop any scratch. Thanks, Mike
  6. The "slow motion" feeling you are experiencing happens when your body goes into "auto pilot" mode. Some call it "fight or flight" but its all the same. When your body goes into this mode it is taking blood from muscle groups that it deems un-neccesary for fight or flight function. Most people get the sensation that their hands won't work right and all they can do is make a fist. This is because the blood is being taken from their hands and routed to other "necessary" muscle groups. You're body also takes blood from your eyes (which causes tunnel vision), and also from your brain (which causes slow motion). I know that sounds weird that your body take blood from your brain but apparently it is true. I am sure there is some cross-over between sports when it comes to this phenomenon but in combat sports especially in MMA your body goes into fight or flight when in stand up or within range 2-3 striking distance and you need to consciously bring your heart rate down when outside of range 2 or when the fight goes to the ground. Otherwise you will gas out. I imagine that in competition pistol shooting you would want to consciously bring your heart rate down during shooter ready then go into auto pilot at the buzzer.
  7. +1 on the Raven holsters, but you should check out Kaluban Cloak if you are going to go the kydex route cause they are shizzle.
  8. Exactly...It's not the dogs fault...They must be socialized correctly....And the owners are the ones who are supposed to do that.... In the case of that type of logic, you can't blame the owners either. They most likely were not socialized correctly by their parents, caregivers etc... I get it that people as opposed to dogs or any other animal for that reason have the capability to understand the difference between right and wrong, but come on seriously? Take my mother for example, absolutely loves Rottweilers, does everything a person can do for her dogs. Obedience school, special food, medical whatever it takes. She had one that was just a nasty bitch no matter what, there was nothing that could be done for that dog and I mean nothing. We had to keep kids and other animals away or it was chow time. Finally she just had to put her down. Some dogs you can take out of the junk yard, you just can't take the junk yard out of them.
  9. The added capacity will help in the game (in lots of ways). After shooting the first couple of lanes I figured that out pretty quick. I did okay choosing reload points, but more ammo would have been nice especially when I got to the plate rack that started spinning after you knocked one off unless you were Johnny on the spot.
  10. Flex, I shoot a Glock23. I shot my first match yesterday. I thought they put all shooters in their respective divisions in the same squad, and that I would have to explain myself a million times as to why I was shooting open. All divisions were mixed which was great. I got to see the different approaches to shooting USPSA. An older gentleman in my squad broke it down for me and gave me a few pointers as we went along. I just wanted some time with my gear. I was a good fit, I knew before hand it was not going to be "tactical" but pressure, moving reloads, moving targets were good for me. Iam going to check out IDPA too and see what its all about. Thanks for the talk fellas, Mike
  11. DC=Daily Carry, sorry for the mis-nomer. Joe4d thank you for you wonderful insight to the world of shooting sports you are a god send! I have read the specific book you speak of it was enlightening to say the least. If you have caught my sarcasim then great, the question was is there a better venue for people like me to shoot? Because in you words Iam the guy who would rather throw a "softball" and instead of playing baseball and wants to know if there is a better game to play. Iam far from bitching about not being able to shoot limited or production because I shoot with a light. Oh and by the way the "game" says that I can use a light I just have to shoot in open, which is what I did. Iam not out to become the next factory shooter, just to be proficient with my weapon set up the way I prefer.
  12. Okay, so I am attracted to USPSA matches because of the atmosphere and different stages/scenarios offered. I can't afford to keep a defense pistol and a match pistol fed so until that time I plan on using my DC. With that said I use a light on my DC and wish to use it in any matches I might shoot. The light puts me in the open division apparently, and what I am wondering is if that puts me at any other disadvantage when it comes to USPSA, other than not having a full blown race gun? Also are there better (for my circumstance) matches to shoot like IDPA or ??? Mike
  13. All you OTs will be happy to know that I know how to use the search function. ~Idaho
