Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I probably need to go back to my ophthalmologist and get my eyes rechecked. I have presbyopia and astigmatism. It is easier to shoot with one eye closed, but i suppose I could train my brain to blunt input from my non dominant eye too that the astigmatism wouldn't hinder me. Still, for me, one eye works well enough.
  2. Hi texas -

If the deal on your Geissele  trigger falls thru , I will take it.

Bernie, thanks for your interest, but it is delivered to the buyer already.  Thanks - Deron

  3. Enjoyed the movie for the portrayal of what our troops experienced in battle an then the battle of re-integrating into everyday life in the USA. Side question - what caliber of rifle did Chris use to take out the sniper at the end of the movie? 300 win mag?
  4. I'm sure it's just me, but I do like the Noveske lowers - I think mostly because of the magwells.
  5. Looks like my Christmas budget is going to get ruined - I need to send my gun to Triangle.....
  6. I'm not a survivalist, but the prospect of social unrest if the economy goes bad or terrorists disrupt our power grid or an EMP gets set off over the USA, uncontrolled plague like Ebola.....etc, could be some very bad times in short order with people not behaving in a very civilized manner. Would seem prudent to be well armed and have enough extra in ammo and guns to provide basic protection for one's family as well as to secure some element of a food supply. As a rule, I doubt that many of us would do a good job of surviving in such an environment - especially in large urban settings. It does give one pause to ponder such a scenario.
  7. Sort of a related thought - hypothermia can happen easily with the combination of cold and wet. Things with caffeine accelerate dehydration and this increases the likelihood of more rapid hypothermia.
  8. Reloading for me isn't about the cost. This is a hobby for me. I enjoy it immensly - almost as much as I enjoy shooting. I'm probably not saving a ton of money. Hell I'm probably spending a little more, i have'nt actually figured it out. But if I wasn't spending at or on my reloading bench, I'd be spending it elswhere - or worse...my wife would! Couldn't agree more!! I also like working up different loads, using different bullet weights and trying out different calibers. I crank up my 60's music and while a couple of hours once or twice a week - for me it's relaxing as well!
  9. Outside of trying out several guns for fit and then firing them are there any resources to help a person decide on which gun or related guns might be worth the time and money to try? The reason I ask is twofold: I live in a rural area - everyone here shoots a glock or a Kimber - no ranges that rent guns within 150 miles of me. I don't shoot competitively so no advantage there in seeing other shooters firearms. Lastly, I have bought and sold way too many guns - always looking for the next bes thing. I do sports medicine and we have ways of assessing feet for best foot wear - there needs to be a "gun fitting" store!
  10. I'm sure that these are not a new idea to board members here, but is use the mechanix tactical gloves: http://www.mechanix.com/tactical?gclid=CMryxODk_LwCFcZZ7Aod3yIAJg
  11. I haven't really figured out my cost per bullet - probably be depressed, but I enjoy doing it in the winter. What cost do you all have on your 9mm reloads these days? I know that I won't break even for some time as I just started loading and have all the upfront costs - even though I bought all used equipment. it's very comforting to know that with the supplies I now have on hand, I won't go "hungry" for ammo for a long time, if the market takes another dive.
  12. This isn't going to turn out well for my wallet!
  13. I have arthritis at the base of my left thumb (C-MC joint) This makes non dominant hand shooting difficult - no amount of hand grip exercises help that issue. So I rarely shoot single non dominant hand - which is OK, because my two hand grip works just fine - although I usually wear shooting gloves even then.
  14. Great tips here. One of my partners was on a SWAT team and they used many of these principles when "clearing" a house. I really like the paintball idea. Living in a part of the US that is cold several months of the year, it would be nice to practice indoors and paintballing would accomplish that.
  15. I'm 64 - so time is important to me - plus my reflexes in loading on the 550 aren't bad - I am slower than my younger shooter friends on theirs. Plus at 64 - I would rather be shooting than reloading - who knows how long we have in this world to do those things!!
