Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. It is a local gunsmith here in MT, he doesn't like me to give his name out. He is very good with Sigs, 19911's and most of all Smith revolvers. His collection is amazing and if S&W didn't build the configuration he liked, he just made it himself. He doesn't look for work and only does projects that interest him now. If you are ever in Livingston, MT I could introduce you. Next step is getting Toolsguy's front sight on it. I have been too busy last couple of weeks. Fishing season is starting!
  2. Thanks Toolguy! I should look at one of your front sights, not in love with the one that is on it.
  3. Hi Benoverse! I am a long time lurker/browser, this is the first thing I really felt I could share and generate some interest. I loved the idea of a moonclipped 9mm revolver, but I have never been fond of the slab sides and I really wanted a 4" gun to match my 646,686 & 625. After purchasing a used 686 barrel I had my gunsmith fit it up. He beadblasted the barrel and it matches the titanium cylinder very well. If only it didn't say 357 on the barrel. A fantastic trigger job that is 100% with Federal primers finished it off. It has quickly become my favorite revolver to shoot. Still having some difficulty remembering to count to 7. Currently shooting cast and coated 147 gr RN sized to .357 or .358. Accuracy has been very good, jacketed bullets in .355 seem to suffer a little, but the cast are shooting very well. Heading to the range today for a little more trigger time and playing with a couple of new loads.
  4. Hi, I am an experienced reloader who recently obtained an old 550 that I have reloaded 1000's of pistol on. I am going to make the jump to reloading .223 on the progressive. (I have always single staged my rifle ammo). Before I buy everything I would like to make sure the process I am thinking of makes sense. I will be using mixed brass, mostly range pick-up. 1)After tumbling brass, use my 550 as a single stage with only a Dillon carbide die to resize and deprime with its own separate toolhead. It makes sense to me to dedicate a toolhead just for the resize stage. 2)Tumble off lube 3)Trim (I have a Giraud) 4)Swage if needed 5)Reload using a Lee Universal Deprimer in Station 1 to clean primer pocket. Maybe it would just be easier to use my old single stage to size, but the Dillon is set up in a more comfortable place. Does anyone use their Dillon as a single stage occasionally?? Thanks in Advance! Tight Groups, Lee
  5. I love my Sig P6, however, it doesn't like several brands of hollow point ammo. Golden Sabres and others will jam. The remington 115gr HP works great, no jams yet. It is a slick little carry gun, just make sure you practice with your carry ammo, even though it may be expensive.
  6. I recently acquired a NIB 550 Dillon that was purchased new in 1986. I have successfully loaded a couple thousand rounds of pistol ammo. My question lies with updating to include the powder-return bar. The three powder measures that came with this machine do not seem to be able to be updated to the new system. This all came into play when I ordered another die set/powder measure etc. It will not work without the powder bar return. Dillon, being an incredible company, shipped me the upgrade free of charge. My question......... is it ok to modify this new powder measure to just work with the springs like the ancient ones I have?? They seem to work great, and I have been careful about visually verifying powder charge in each cartridge. If I install the upgrade, my old powder measures are obsolete, and I am unsure if I want to spring for 3 new ones. Also installing the new bracket will force me to reset all the dies. Not a huge deal, but definitely time-consuming. I am an experienced reloader, this is my first progressive and I am definitely in love. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
