Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Yeah for some reason my classifier from my November match never uploaded to USPSA. It did upload to Practiscore, but for some reason didn't make it to USPSA. Really sux as I was hoping to get my initial classification with the December update, but no such luck. My MD says he has been calling USPSA to try to get it resolved, but no luck yet. Hopefully it will be there for when they update in January.
  2. Anyone using one of the Replay XD Prime X cameras yet? I just ordered one. Was planning on their 1080 Mini version, but Replay was running a holiday special on the Prime X and got it for $199 with free shipping. It is supposed to have much better battery life, wi-fi, and it can use a smartphone app as remote and video monitor. The drawback vs the mini is obviously that it is a bit bigger, but I figured it is a fair trade off for the extra features of the Prime X.
  3. Mine has been great. I had a few FTFs at first with some cheap factory ammo that was a short OAL. Once I started loading my own at 1.18 OAL, it has been flawless. That was the OAL that STI recommended for it.
  4. A range I belong to has an "action pistol" match twice a week. It can be fun but safety and structure are very much lacking because there is no official rule set. It does serve a purpose, for whatever reason there is a contingent of people that are intimidated by USPSA. "Too strict rules" "too hard stages" or just the competition is too stiff. However, once somebody has shot a few action pistol matches there is a portion that wants to see what else is out there. That is exactly how I got into USPSA. I shot some action pistol, did well, and someone suggested I try USPSA. Now I'm hooked and I basically never shoot action pistol. USPSA had the competition and structure I was looking for. I started kind of like that too, except I did some IDPA in addition to outlaw action pistol. For some reason I was kind of intimidated by the idea of shooting USPSA. I think that was in part to most of the stereotypical pictures I would see of USPSA shooters wearing fancy jerseys and shooting high dollar open "race" guns. I finally went to my first USPSA match and was instantly hooked. I really regret not trying it a lot sooner.

  6. Here's my perspective as a new USPSA member. I've been a shooter for a long time, but this is my first year as a USPSA shooter and member. I am still learning all the ins and outs of the sport so to me the Front Sight Magazine is actually interesting and educational. I also like the classification system as a way of tracking my progress. Sure, it seems USPSA has it's issues as most everything does, but to me at this point even if all I get out of them is the magazine and classification system it's worth the membership fee. Maybe if I had been a member for a long time those things might not mean a lot to me. I can see how the magazine probably doesn't contain a lot of content that your average GM would find useful. Might be cool to have an option to opt out of the magazine for a reduced membership fee.
  7. Sounds familiar. Been shooting for a long time, but fairly new to USPSA. I've shot 5 USPSA matches so far (1 in Production and the last 4 in Limited-major). I do some dry fire practice & feel like I have decent speed(for me) in dry fire, but when I shoot matches, I notice I tend to slow down a little and aim more. My match this past weekend was pretty good in the fact I shot majority A's with a few C's, and an occasional D. This is the first match I didn't end up with a mike or a no shoot, so I was happy about that. I feel like I need to push myself a little to try to pick up the speed a bit. So far, I usually finish about the middle of the pack and hoping to end up with an initial classification of C. Really loving USPSA and hate it took so long to try it.
  8. That's my understanding of how it works in states that restrict magazine capacity. Would there be any guns really impacted in non magazine restriction states if L10 was eliminated?
  9. I purchased one of the DVC Limiteds in .40 SW and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The only issue, if you even consider it that, is like others have mentioned it likes ammo at 1.18. Not saying it won't run anything else, but that seems to be the sweet spot and it what STI recommends for it. I did initially try some cheap blaser brass stuff when I first got it that was loaded much shorter, and did have a few FTF's with it. Since I started loading my own at 1.18, it has been 100% reliable. If you're gonna order some ammo, I know some companies can do custom OAL for you if you call, so that may be an option until you get set up to load for it yourself. As far as mags, I have the 2 factory STI 140mm ones that came with the gun and I purchased two more. They have also been 100% reliable for me so far. I have since added Grams springs and followers with TTI 4g2 base pads to two of them and they are still 100% so far. I just added the Grams spring and follower with a Dawson SNL +1 base pad to the third one to try and I don't expect any issues with it either.
  10. Sounds good. Will have to break out the Dremel and give it a go. Thanks again.
  11. Was recently in a very similar position. Was shooting a Glock 34 just getting started in Production when I also ended up selling a motorcycle. I used the money from the motorcycle sale and bought an STI DVC Limited in .40. I have been shooting Limited Major and am really enjoying it. Love the new gun as it has renewed my motivation to go shoot matches. I don't think it has made me any better, or worse, of a shooter by itself. I think it has gotten me more motivated to practice and dry fire more, which has helped me improve somewhat. I really love the new gun and so far no regrets on spending the money on it. No experience with the CZ platform, but the 2011 has been great. Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide.
  12. No new Intel here amigo. Modify the mag ( follower) not the gun ( slide stop) for no lock back. Only real reason is to ensure you don't lock back with a round left in the mag. If you are running factory STI followers then don't worry about it but if you have grams guts then do it. The big concern is getting your money's worth ( capacity ) out of your gear. Beyond that, slamming a tapered 140 into your polymer grip 2011 at slide lock may be a bummer (over insertion) Good luck amigo! Thank you sir!
  13. So will modifying my followers only prevent the slide from locking back on empty? Don't want to mess with my factory slide stop and plan on going with a Nitro Fin soon after upgrading to a race type holster. For the record, I'm shooting an STI DVC Limited in .40 with STI 140mm mags with Grams followers/springs, and TTI basepads.
