  1. You can throw the flag all you want, but it would still be a valid DQ, and one I would hand out with a smile on my face...Mostly because if a shooter tries this stunt, the shooter is being a dumbass.
  2. Haha...Poor Paul. I was there, as I was the other RO, and just happened to be keeping score instead of running the clock. I was watching the shooter, but as the scorekeeper, it is my job to watch for foot faults and procedurals. The round went off so fast, everybody on the stage and people on the stage next to us thought the gun doubled. Basically it was "beep-boom." I didn't see it happen because I was watching feet and waiting for the shooter to settle into a shooting stance. Even the shooter was surprised when a DQ was not called, and I can tell you now, the RM would have backed a DQ call all the way. Just because there is a wall made out of easily movible material between the shooter and the ground does not releive the shooter of responsibility for where his/her round goes. Basically, by the rules of this game, since the props are hard cover and supposed to be impenetrable, the bullet basically hit what is considered a solid object at 18 inches or less from the shooter. There is no way to bluff that,"I was indexing on my target and it was just an early shot." At the point the gun went off, the finger should not have been on the trigger. In reality, as per the shooter, his shooting finger was not on the trigger. In the mad grab for his gun, his offside index finger went tot high, accidently went into the trigger guard, and as he obtained his grip, he lit the gun off with his left hand. The way an AD is defined in the rule book indicates that eventhough this action was absolutely an AD, it could not be ruled that way; however, it was USGH at its best. No one got hurt, no one could have gotten hurt, everything was down range, and there was nothing but bragging rights on the table. Paul was a little to quick to announce a reshoot, but once he did, I don't think there was any going back and saying, "Oops, you know what? That was a DQ, sorry." Paul handled as he saw fit for the moment, and the shooter completed a reshoot. His gun handling never came into question again, so it is what it is.
  3. You did TWO reloads you big baby. I had to do one, so it's not like the advantage was that great. However, I will concede that yes, the stage another guy and I set up on Saturday was illegal. One of our berms was full of mud and water, and there were like 5 people present to start setting up four stages in about an hour. Two of us were asked to set up a quick stage in half a berm. There wasn't much time to come up with something fun in a small space. I didn't want to only shoot 8 rounds, so we added a barrel to shoot through, some barrels to shoot around, and made it all come from one shooting box. 22 rounds total with 6 steel targets. We had to be careful that rounds shot in either one of those stages did not damage the props in the adjecent stage. Illegal? Hell yes. Safe? Yes. Was it fun? I thought so. The comment was made that if so and so had been there that person would have had the stage thrown out. From a level one match? Really? Who cares? If there were guns or prizes on the table, I could see people being upset. If there were illegal stages being set up by the same people every match, I could see being upset; but that is clearly not the case at our club. We made do with what we had in the time we had and still had fun. In all seriousness, I did mention that if anyone there did not like the stage and was sure they could do much better, next match they should show up earlier and set one up themselves. Problem solved.
  4. What they said and perepherial vision. If your standing in one place and reloading off the table it is different and more difficult if you are having to reload off a table or shelf while on the move or changing positions. You have to be able to quickly locate that mag so that you can grab it and index it the same way you do in dry practice. I'm not so great at it either sometimes, but getting better.
  5. Oh...Stupid me...I didn't know there was a difference.
  6. Memphis hit it right on the nose. As well as dealing with your nervousness, at matches, many of us try to shoot faster than we are actually able. The worst match I ever shot, I got squadded with a bunch of Masters and GMs. Hearing their pace made me try to speed up and I had misses all over the place. Part of being able to shoot is knowing about where your limit is and not overstepping that by too much.
  7. I went to my first GSSF match in July after a friend that worked a the indoor range asked me if I was coming. Said there was a chance to win a Glock, so I figured, "What the heck." When I got there, there was a drawing for some small stuff and I found out that GSSF is pretty much a "bullseye" match. Stand and shoot 5 rounds at the center of the target at increasing distances from a low ready. No moving, no mag changes, just point and shoot. Then I found out the Glock was won by random drawing, we had to attend 2 out of the 3 matches to be elegible, and the first match I attended was the 2nd of the 3. So...Come 3rd match, I almost stayed home, but then decided I should go cuz I could possibly win the drawing. We shot and I won a division with a pretty standard Glock 22 with night sights and a 3lb Brownell's trigger in it ( I still don't know how, and I didn't bother to ask). Then I won the drawing for the Glock. It took like 12 weeks to get here and it was the wrong color, but what the heck...It was free and the correct caliber. It was actually pretty fun, and I will definatly go back to the local matches.
  8. Are you coming the HDC in June? That will be cool. We'll see you then. HotRodZilla was the nickname given to me in like 1997 by this girl I worked with. Hot; cuz I'm you know...cute, Rod is a reference to the last name, and I donno where the heck Zilla came from. I'm told it had something to do with my tendency to get pissed off about stuff. Anyway, it kinda stuck, it makes a good forum name, and it's easy to abbreviate: HRZ. And as far as the two wheels, I flew about 400 miles on them this weekend. I love that thing. The adrenaline rush and the quiet are just what I need most days. Haha...Everyone here that knows you knows that you l-o-v-e to whine. "WeeWeeWee...AJ set up an illegal stage." Well with 15 minutes to come up with a "speed-shoot" in a half a berm, that's what you get. I still say it was not one postion. You had multiple positions including standing and kneeling, just not a lot of space to do it in. Haha...If we woulda had more room, it woulda been different. Sorry! As for the rest of you...Thanks for the welcome. I'll see you out there.
  9. Ok...So the first obligatory post. I live in Albuquerque and shoot with the Rio Grande Practical Shooting Club. That being said, I know a few people already on here...GManBart, the Lamberts, the Currents, P. Benson, and a few others that I am pretty sure, but not absolutely sure are here. They all know me as AJ, and as far as I know, they all LOVE me because I am such a nice guy. My friends at the club always ask me if I saw this or that on the forum, and I always have to say no since I'm not a member. So I'm joining up so I can stop the excuses. Been shooting all my life, but never learned to shoot a pistol until 1997. I didn't start shooting competition until about 3 years ago. Like most of my hobbies, I dove right in and started shooting Limited-10 until I bought a gun that met the Single Stack rules and have mostly shot in that division. I picked up a Limited gun from one of the shooters here almost two years ago and decided to start shooting it seriously this year. We will see how that progresses. So...That's probably it for now...I hate long winded hellos, so I'll let it go. If you wanna know anything else, just ask...I'll tell. If anyone that knows me mentions anything about me being a smartalec, don't believe them. I was gonna make this funnier, but the rules seemed pretty stringent, and everyone knows I would never break a rule...Ever. So I think I'll feel-out the atmosphere a little before I say something stupid.
