Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I really like my Nordic tube due to not having a top rail, very thin
  2. With regards to dry fire training in general in rifles. I have had the Mantis Blackbeard on loan for a while now ( the kit that replaces the AR BCG with an auto reset training bolt ) It is a very useful tool for dry fire practice. Easy to bring to the range also to run some reps before going live. This one is the non laser version and I am also looking at getting the visible laser version and some laser targets for longer distance etc. Why visible, I dont like it but cell phone target apps dont work with IR what I understand. But in any case the Blackbeard brings a lot for a reasonable cost and is something that I was heavily looking into some time ago. Works pretty well and a good investment even with regular rifle ammo prices, not to mentioned what you guys are looking at now..
  3. Hi, No, if going with a 1-6x then IMHO either the Z6i or the Kahles ( lets say one would get a good deal etc. ) But overall I would recommend the Z8i as the best one.
  4. The best for 3-Gun / IPSC Rifle right now, my personal opinion ( backed up with what the top is using at least on this side of the pond ) 1-6x, Swarovski Z6i or Kahles K16i 1-8x Swarovski Z8i Steiner is coming out with a new 1-8x, took a look during Enforce Tac expo in Germany, this one had FFP reticle with a dot far too big for sporting use. However, it is quite likely it will be available in SFP. Looking at it otherwise, if it has a good SFP reticle, it will be a serious contender.
  5. Guys, Hope I am not out of line here, but just a heads up that I opened today my Practical shooting athlete page on Facebook. For those that use it. https://www.facebook.com/Tuukka-Jokinen-2025112404404872/
  6. IMHO no need for a larger circle at 1x and the BRT-I gives you more BDC lines for a stage with targets at varying distances
  7. A lot of my training is off hand at 60-100 meters. I I use hanging 6.6" plates. I do shoot basic drills from a standing position, but it is mostly moving to get heart beat up and also shooting at varying distances ( some paper also mixed in often ) Yes, there will be wobble but the grip/stance etc. is what matters. I do grip the rifle pretty firmly with a clamp type grip, but I also try to allow the rifle sort to float ( harder to explain than what it is I also now prefer a higher magnification especially at 100 meter off hand, the 8x on the Z8i is an improved over the 6x Kahles in this. One thing to really keep in mind, that I have not necessarily done enough, even though moving prior to shooting and shooting from varying types of surfaces. Train for shooting positions where you dont have a perfect stance, ie. around a corner with a fault line, uneven and loose ground. It will have an effect definitely. At the World Shoot in June, I shot off hand several of the stages that the top guys used safari length bipods for example, not coming out worse specifically due to it. It can be counted from this video of the stages, but IIRC there were not too many misses on the further away off hand targets (#2 was a mess, where I should have used the bipods )
  8. For me it this is really simple, though not always easy What did the dot do during the shot or fast double? Does not really matter if it is 3 meters to the target or 100 m off hand shot/shots You need to know where the shot went, the old shot calling thing, regardless of speed or distance. What can help in addition to proper training and stance, is of course a very good muzzle brake, adjustable gases and a light carrier, in my case an aluminium one.
  9. It is the Finn Tac comp from AV Ase ( Jarkko Laukia, the silver medalist in Open is a co-owner there ) https://www.av-ase.fi/ase/tuote/finntac-223-suujarru-½x28unef-rst/403066/ Leftie version for me. I used the JP comp for a long time, but this is even better in my setup. If I do my part right, the dot basically bounces over a plate at off hand at 100 meters, it sounded not so believable at first when I talked about it with Jarkko ;), but when I got the comp I got to see it myself.
  10. Here is how the world shoot looked like, the 1-8x was really good there, combined with the T1 ( IIRC used on 15 stages )
  11. Yes, there is perhaps more visible wobble, but proper training makes it a non issue. And arriving to a shooting position, if the dot takes a bit longer to settle ( some tenths of a second or even 1-2 seconds ) usually your hits from the string from that location will be better. At 40-50 meters, I already use 4-5X, of course if the majority of targets are closer in it may be 1,5 - 3x and then taking the fewer longer shots with that. Once I get the stage videos from the World Shoot, I may link some here that are relevant to this. Off hand mini and regular poppers at 60-90 meters and regular poppers at 110 meters.
  12. My previous IPSC competition optic was the Kahles K16i with G 4B reticle. I used it for several seasons in national and international level matches. Absolutely nothing bad to say about it, only wish would have been a locking elevation turret. I switched to the Swarovski Z8i with the BRT-I reticle during this winter. Having now used the Z8i 1-8x for some time, I can honestly say it has made a difference compared to a 1-6x scope. Off hand shooting at 17 c, / 6.6" plates at 100 meters is very doable with the scope ( the new comp I am using and the aluminium bolt carrier of course being a part of this combo ) Best strings range c. 3.3 - 3.8 seconds from the beep for 3 shots/hits. If I mess up, then the times are in the 5-8 second range with 4-7 shots usually. So I would say the biggest diffence is the improved ability for off hand shooting at longer distances and not compromising anything in other shooting types ( low magnification, closer targets, shooting on the move etc ) The scope was really put to the test the first IPSC Rifle World Shoot in Russia earlier this month, placed 7th overall. Excellent scope overall, as one should expect from Swarovski.
  13. Of course depending on the stage type and overall target distances. But c. 40-50 meters 3-4x and out from that 6x ( Kahles K16i 1-6x scope ) I do have a Aimpoint T1 mounted also for target situations that I do not want to be changing the magnification on the main scope.
  14. Got the Speed model during June, have not been able to put a lot of rounds through it yet. Been a G17 user in Production for many years. Once I have been able to shoot it more extensively, will post some more thorough comments. Initial thoughts + Low line of sight / pistol points well + Felt recoil is mild, better / different than on my G17 + Trigger is good for a factory new pistol, quite smooth. Reset is longer than on a G17 for example, whether that is an issue at all remains to be seen. - The grip is a bit small, for someone used to the G17 like myself - The factory fiber front sight is quite large I am a lefty and used to dropping the mag with my trigger finger on my G17, on the Speed if I set it for left side release, my hand contacts it during recoil and the mag will drop quite often. If set up for right side release, the grip needs to be shifted quite a lot to release. So I ground down the spare mag release that came with the gun, so now it does not drop the mag accidentally ( Not Production class legal anymore, but next matches will be next summer so I will see what can be done in the meanwhile )
  15. Really glad to see shooters from the U.S. taking the effort again coming over here. Welcome!
