Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. That's really funny. You just made me relieve some moments I had when I installed the Forward Set Sear / Trigger set and the RAM. Same thing happened and the ensuing panic did set in looking for the darn thing. Thankfully also found it after a few minutes which felt like hours. As mentioned, I've essentially made this pistol not legal for competition but oh man what a difference. It is truly one of the best feeling pistols that I own now. Just a joy. The trigger break is incredible and the reset amazing. Heck the initial take up is almost nonexistent in comparison to what it was before. Yes, I now have $600 in the gun + about $200 in parts to improve it to nonlegal status compared to just simply having purchased a Shadow but........ it's a great range gun. Supposedly the good folks over at Apex Tactical are working hard at getting these upgrades approved / incorporated into a S&W model so we'll see if I have the opportunity to shoot this legally one day (there's always wishful thinking).
  2. I installed their new trigger and forward set sear kit just yesterday. What a terrific upgrade. The trigger is an absolute joy. I like the additional width on my finger and the travel before / after firing is much, much better. Always thought that the reset on these was terrific but now it's just so much better. Anyone else have similar experience?
  3. Purchase an Apex Tactical Forward Set Sear kit and don't look back. I just installed one yesterday and having had their USB before (and finding it great), this is about as close to a 1911 type trigger that I've found possible. Well worth the money. By the way, I also have the RAM kit installed and the two make for a very nice shooting gun.
  4. Had the opportunity to shoot one today, the bi-tone model, and I want to throw a couple things out there. Upon being handed the pistol, I was immediately taken by its overall look and feel. I liked the size quite a bit. Sort of barrel finally matching the size of the grip which I never thought was quite in proportion. Balance felt good in hand. The new front sight looked pretty good / practical compared to their normal stock sights. I tried to do a few dry fires and was taken aback by the incredibly average trigger present. The initial take-up was quite long, the reset long, and the overall weight of the trigger heavy. Mind you, this is just my opinion. I am curious as to whether Rob Leatham actually got everything that he was asking for in a 'competition ready' pistol as I hear this billed. Maybe he just likes that type of trigger. Compared it to the trigger of my XD and it really was not much different. So besides the longer sight radius, sights, what else makes this more worthy for USPSA, etc.? I'll probably still wind up getting one and have someone do work on it after they've been out a little longer and more available. I did enjoy shooting it but find an out of the box Glock 34 and M&P 9 Pro/L better.
  5. Bump? In looking through the GlockTalk forum, the words, "Hell" and something like, "Ice" or "Freezing", were mentioned describing the expected availability. Not sure what they were referring to though :-) Honestly, even my buddy at Glock doesn't have that information.
  6. On the Mark III......... Clean around the Loaded Chamber Indicator. That thing is a nightmare. The latest generation pistols are nothing like the previous in that you have to be more observant of cleaning at greater intervals.
  7. I believe that S&W is aware of the issue with some pistols and if you call the, explain the situation, etc., they'll have you send it back to them and they'll put in the larger sear block / spring combo and return it to you for free with 1 - 2 free magazines as well. Did that with mine. Got it back in 8 days. Put the Apex sear in afterwards.
  8. I shoot the M&P Pro and G34 for the most part these days. I can honestly write that the M&P is about the softest shooter of the two in my hands. I rate it right up there with the CZ SP01 Tactical belonging to my buddy in handling. It's really a terrific design with about the sweetest reset that I've run across. Can't wait for the newest stuff from Apex to be available.
  9. Similar situation to what I faced about 2 months ago....... Decided on the Trojan because to me the undercut trigger guard, better finish, sights, STIppling, and whatever other minor differences there may be were worth it. Just heard too many good things about the Trojan. I have not been let down. Went with one from Dawson Precision. Added a front fiber sight, Smith & Alexander magwell / mainspring housing, and had it tuned / tested by Dawson. Well worth it. It's an absolute joy to shoot. By the way, having a lot of luck with Dawson's 10round magazines. Might chrome the darn thing for Christmas :-)
  10. No..... you should be fine. It's the models that have the thumb safeties and keyed safety that are of concern. Looks like all the pin does is sit within that hole with a spring that helps push the trigger bar back towards the edge of the frame. Pretty creative. Now if they or someone would come up with something to take care of the ridiculous initial take-up without having to guess on a set screw placement........... PERFECTION.
  11. Have you tried calling EAA and asking for assistance with the problems? How is their tech support?
  12. I keep reading 'I have a good source that says' and stuff along those lines. Beginning to seem like its actual introduction will be sometime next year. Thinking that there just isn't as much demand. Seems like even the Glock instructors and GSSF folks are hearing varied things.
  13. Another 9mm Trojan owner here. Just received it and looking forward to shooting it tomorrow. I'll be shooting it from a rest to see what kind of accuracy I can get from it. Based on an initial look, feel, tinkering, this thing should be sweet.
  14. Well, I was going to polish things anyway so the thought of trying the 6# spring can't do anything but potentially help out. Thanks for the idea. I really need to start paying more attention to what the standard spring weights are and the effects of changing their weights.
  15. Darn it, I knew that it was too easy of an upgrade path. Thanks for the information. I may just have to wait until next year's budget to come into play. Thanks for the info.
