Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I moved to Colorado 5 months ago. Here's a slide show of the natural beauty I have seen since then. I thought you guys might enjoy it. Check it out. It's worth the download. Let me know what you think...
  2. +1 for the Titan compensator. I have been very happy with my selection. Here's my setup:
  3. I must admit the sniper challenge match was the toughest competition I have ever run across. The tournament director had us running through woods, over and under barricades, running with two cmu blocks, etc prior to taking our shots from awkward positions. After taking our heart rate up, we were required to take shots from as far out as 600 yards out while engaging targets as small as tennis balls. All stages were shot under a timer as well. I certainly learned a few lessons in this match.
  4. I haven't shot 3-gun yet, but I have shot a sniper challenge, tactical carbine and tactical pistol match. All three matches were a blast. I did make a few adjustments with my gear after my first couple of matches. Here's a few pics from the sniper challenge match. It was a tough match.
  5. Thanks for the comments guys. Here's a few target setups to keep practice fun. I set these targets up at three different distances, double tap each target then reload and do it again: Steel Skull Target (Easy to see round impacts even at long distances): Repainted Steel Target (No round impact damage):
  6. My past competition experience has involved IDPA, trap and skeet. I decided this year that I would give sniper challenge and three-gun matches a try. After lots of research, practice, and tinkering, I've assembled the following gear for competition: Three-Gun Competition: - Shotgun (FNH SLP Mark-I 12 ga) - AR-15 (Larue Tactical Upper & Lower/Leupold Mark IV 1.5-5x20mm/ Geissele Two-Stage Match Trigger/Titan Compensator) - Handgun (Sig X-Five Tactical - 9mm) - Three (3) Comp-Tac Mag Pouches - Two (2) Comp-Tac AR-15 Mag Pouches - Chamber Flag - Vickers Combat Sling - Three (3) California Strippers (Shotshell Holders) - Bladetech Kydex Holster (Sig X-Five Tactical) - Atlas Bipod w/ Larue Tactical QD Mount - Three (3) Mec-Gar Extended Magazines (20-round capacity) - Four (4) Sig Sauer Magazines (15-round capacity) - Six (6) AR-15 Pmags (30-round capacity) - Two (2) AR-15 Pmags (20-round capacity) - AR-15 Magazine Speed Loader - Three (3) Accuracy International Magazines (5-round capacity) - Oakley Shooting Glasses - Ear Protection - Reinforced Shooting Belt - Mag Dump Pouch - VooDoo Double Rifle/Handgun Bag - 5.11 Tactical Range Bag - Shooter's Ridge Leather Shooting Rests Sniper Challenge: Description: 100 - 600 yards. Targets are at unknown distances. No range finders or wind meters allowed. Custom Remington 700 Rifle: - Remington 700 Action - Remington 700 20" Free-floating Heavy Barrel - Bell & Carlson Stock - Timney Trigger (2 lb pull) - Nightforce 3.5-15x50 F1 Scope/Rings/Mount/Anti-cant Device - Karsten's Adjustable Cheek Rest - Harris Bipod with Swivel and Pod Lock - Surgeon Rifles Bottom Metal w/ Accuracy International Magazines - Badger Over-sized Bolt Knob I have plenty of .223/9mm/.308/12-gauge shot/slug ammo. I have been practicing two-three times a week. I use my Nikon 800 range finder for obtaining my dope for longer ranges. I have a shooting mat on order. Am I missing any gear for my upcoming matches? Can I get away without a spotting scope in sniper challenge matches? Am I equipment legal for 3-Gun Tactical - Scoped Division? Here's a few pics of my gear:
  7. Thanks for the responses guys. I am headed to the range today for practice. I will give your suggestions a try. Alaskapopo, How do you like the angled forward grip? I have one, but have not decided if I want to run it or not. How heavy is your rig? I am at 10.5 lbs fully loaded. Have you ever run that Nightforce in competition?
  8. Thanks ima45dv8 for your intervention. Most of the previous input I received was very helpful.
  9. Here's my rifle setup for an upcoming tactical carbine match. You can use two optics as long as you run both optics the entire match. Target distances are from 5 yards to 300 yards. Optics: I zeroed my primary scope (Leupold Mark IV 1.5-5x20mm MR/T) at 50 yards so I would be on target at 50 and 200 yards. I plan on running my primary scope at 5x. I zeroed my secondary scope (Aimpoint micro T-1) at 10 yards. I have to aim 4" low at 25 yard distances to be on target with my secondary scope. I plan on using my secondary scope from 5 yards to 25 yards and my primary scope beyond 25 yards. Rifle Specifications: - Larue Tactical Lower/Upper - LaRue Tactical Stealth Sniper System (18" SS Barrel w/ 12" Free-floating Handguard) - Colt Lower Part Kit - Geissele Two Stage Trigger - Magpul UBR Stock - Rifle Weight w/ loaded 30-round Magazine: 10.5 lbs. Any comments on the rifle setup for the match? Should I zero my primary scope at 100 yards in lieu of 50 yards? Should I run back up iron sights? Thanks in advance for your help... Leupold Mark IV Special Purpose Reticle: Titan AR-15 Compensator (S&J Customs):
  10. Jman, Nice, very nice... Your pictures are great also.
  11. I went with a Titan AR-15 .223 Compensator.
  12. I am in the market for a compensator for my 18" Larue Tactical Stealth upper (.223). What is the best compensator on the market for tactical carbine matches? I have been looking at the Titan AR-15 .223 Compensator, JP Tactical compensator and the Arredondo compensator. Arredondo Titan
  13. I see your point now. Replace the Docter sight with the back-up iron sight. That is a great idea. Can I mount the JP short range irons on the right-side (90 deg) hand rail and keep the ACOG scope with fixed front sight? This configuration would allow me to have the best of both worlds. I would have the ACOG for long range shots and the iron sights or "both eyes open" ACOG for close shots.
  14. Currently, I do not have a back-up iron sight. This Arma-Lite carbine originally had an upper receiver with a fixed handle. I wanted to use an Trijicon ACOG scope so I replaced the fixed handle upper receiver with a flat top upper receiver. I have used an ACOG scope with the Bindon Aiming Concept (BAC) for the last two years. The BAC system supposedly helps with the "two eye thing" as you mentioned. Therefore, I am probably better off sticking wih the one optic vs straight iron sights. Don't you have to stick with the same rifle/scope configuration throughout the match?
  15. How about a Tactical Link Steatlh Bungee Single-Point Sling? Web Link:
