Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Not really. I already stippled the frames, and most of what I buy I make my own. My Glocks are AR's are guns that I usually treat like borrowed mules and expect to run into the ground. I've shot 34's a bit before, just usually when borrowed for a range trip. I'm getting about 80% of points in my division now, so I'm happy with my performance... but I need to start pushing my speed. I clean up on available points, but my splits and transitions are where I need to focus. My thought is the longer sight radius should help give some better feedback on mid range shots, and give me more confidence to break the shoot faster. Footwork is something I'm trying to focus on too, but that's another topic. I see a more refined trigger in my future as well, but I'm making it work for now. Thanks again, Jim
  2. I'm currently shooting a 17 with a magwell, and some grip and trigger work in Limited. I've made B class with it (beginning of my second season in USPSA), and now I'm considering some upgrades. I've got some lead ammo in the basement, so I'll soon be picking up a KKM barrel to shoot it. I'm planning on picking up a 34 slide at the same time, and just getting a 34 length bbl instead of a 17 length one. If I go that route, for Limited division, shooting factory 9mm ammo... does anyone think there'd be much sense in milling some weight off of the 34 slide? I'm running a 13# spring (IIRC) on a steel guide rod now, but I don't plan on shooting anything other than factory ammo. Any shooters really notice enough of a difference in their splits (or even in how the gun handles) to justify the cost of sending it out to be lightened? Thanks guys! Jim
  3. If Glock ever cared what Americans or competition shooters wanted, they would have done a run of RTF2 34's and 35's. The US market has been begging for a single stack 9mm for years, or to change the plastic sights to something better... and Glock Austria just doesn't care.
  4. The RM02 doesn't have an on/off switch... it functions like the Deltapoint. Are guys still breaking the 02's on open guns?
  5. They don't go off till you pull the trigger... same as a revolver.
  6. Yea, really. That camera was pointed way too low. I'm going to use a different camera and mount next time.
  7. Well, my backorder for the tungsten recoil rod was canceled, so I switched to a steel one. I also ordered the brass/ heavy magwell from GlockWorx, as it was in stock, heavy, and they recommend it with the Arredondo extension. I have a DOH holster setup on the way, but it'll be a little different from the norm. I'll post details once it comes in and I can set it up properly. I ran the factory recoil spring setup at the last match, and it seemed just as manageable as the 13# one. I was also shooting some (free) 124gr NATO ammo, so I had no interest in shooting that with a reduced spring. Here's a vid of the gun in action as it stands now: Thanks, Jim
  8. I was looking at those as a leading option, I just wanted to double check if there were any fit concerns. I'd seen the Carvers, SJC's and Dawson all offering heavy options... just didn't know what the best bet would be for use with those magazine extensions. I'm not as concerned about the size advantage itself, as I've been reloading Glocks quickly for years without one... but if I can pick up even a little time while adding more weight, I figured it'd help level the playing field some against the other setups in Limited. I'm just looking for non-permanent modifications so if I don't like it, or want to shoot some IDPA with the same gun, I can remove the components and have a relatively stock gun. Thank you
  9. I added some pads on the frame, forward of the slide lock lever... apparently that bumps me up to limited (which is fine). I did it as a carry modification and don't feel like buying a new gun. If I want to shoot production and buy a new gun, I'll get a 34 for that. Thanks!
  10. Huh, I hadn't heard about tungsten chipping before. My thought had been to add as much weight to the gun as possible as I'm not reloading for it or anything. Any suggestions on what magwell would go best with the Arrendondo extensions and add some weight? Thanks!
  11. Hello guys, I've decided to jump into USPSA finally after shooting IDPA and doing a lot of tactical training for years. I'm planning on sticking to Limited Minor class, shooting my stippled Gen 2 Glock 17. All of my 17's are stippled for carry, so I'm either going to be in Limited or Open class, anyway. I'm thinking of staying away from limited 10 because that feels too much like IDPA to me, and I'm up for something different. In terms of my ability/ experience, I typically place along side many Expert class shooters in IDPA (or some Master's if I'm having a good day), and I shot B-class at the first USPSA match I shot. Right now the gun is setup with 13# recoil spring (tungsten rod on the way), a narrow red FO front sight and plain black rear, stippling on the grip and frame, a Zev connector (stock springs) and an overtravel stop in the trigger housing. I've been shooting 5.5# Glocks for so long (and accurately)that I'm pretty used to them and don't really feel the need for a more modified trigger. I have large hands so I have no need for extended controls. I'm also running +6 Arrendondo extensions on my mags, and have some Safariland 771 pouches coming in. What other modifications would you guys recommend for a limited Minor Glock? I don't feel like dumping lots of money into it, but I feel like a heavy magwell would go a long way, but I don't know what else folks typically do to get the most out of a limited gun. I don't feel like a match barrel would help for the type of shooting in USPSA, unless the tighter lock-up could help change felt recoil significantly. I just don't feel like modifying the pistol in such a way that I can't modify it back to carry it (like milling the slide to reduce weight). Also, I don't reload, so I'll be shooting factory ammo, exclusively. I plan on putting together a DOH type holster too. I have some kydex capabilities, but may put together something store bought for the sake of making life easier. Anything you guys think I'm missing, or am I over thinking it? Thanks for the help, Jim

    limited 10 G17

I just added the fiber optic front to replace the plain front from my Defoor sights on my 17, and I'm very pleased with the results. The replacement FO fronts are the same exact dimension so you shouldn't need to do any real adjustments after you replace it. 13. The frame stippling and grinding I can do myself for the cost of a soldering iron and the electricity to run it, or pay any of a number of guys to do for $200. The milling and refinish work isn't worth more than $300 from anyone. Any Glock barrel on the market, gunsmith fit, still isn't worth more than $350. Sights at $125 (maybe), and we're only at $975 on top of a base gun. Throw in a $250 trigger, and it's still not even at $1300 over a base gun. I hope someone buys one and runs the Range 37 Combat Shoot with it.
  14. i took a class a while back from Kyle Lamb where he mentioned someone who'd lost their right eye in a breaching accident (believe it was Mike Pannone but I may be incorrect) and shot rifle just as you mention it above - they put a riser on the AR receiver to raise the optic a bit and then shot right handed (long gun on right shoulder) but aiming with their left eye. If i recall correctly, this was using an eotech or aimpoint type red dot sight which has basically unlimited eye relief and very limited parallex (supposedly parallex-free) so they were able to get an effectice sight picture even with a bit of an oblique viewing angle through the scope. Not sure how this worked for longer distance targets where parallex is more of an issue, or whether this would work for a magnified optic which is not so forgiving with eye relief or field of view. It all makes sense now. Just saw these pics of Mike Pannone. I figured he learned to shoot right handed and had something happen (not impossible in that line of work).
  15. Mine shoot POA/POI using their supplied night sight front.
