Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I had a new in Dec 10, 40 Compact with the unimproved round-top slide. The slide cracked with less than 300 rounds through it. I sent it back to EAA along with $20 for return shipping, that's right you must pay for return shipping. They slapped on a new unimproved round top slide. The slide cracked again with less than 300 rounds. I sent it back a second time and they just slapped on another POS round top slide. The third unimproved round top slide also cracked with less than 300 rounds. Back to EAA one more time. This time they replaced the POS unimproved round top slide with an Old Style Square slide. So far so good.
  2. Here is one. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106314
  3. I've read this as well, but I'm not convinced this is the case. I cracked three slides in a matter of weeks. If the problem was a bad lot then they are still installing that bad lot on their guns as of Dec 2010. The only way they could stop my slide from cracking was to replace it with the old style square slide. Doesn't seem like a casting issue to me.
  4. Depends on what you have. A new and unimproved round top slide in the steel wonder, and older model with the square slide or the Elite Match. I purchased a new Compact Steel Wonder in 40 S&W with the new unimproved round top slide last fall. With less than 300 rounds through it the slide cracked. Sent it back to EAA along with a check for $20 to pay for return shipping, that's right you have to pay for shipping both ways. They slapped on a new unimproved round top slide and sent it back. Another 300+ rounds and the slide cracked again. Sent it back again on my dime and all they did was slap on a new slide. Third slide and a few hundred rounds later and the slide cracked again(that's 3), big surprise. This time they issued me a call tag and paid for shipping both ways. They slapped on a new slide, but this time it was an old style square top slide. Looks like this now.
  5. I have a Witness 40 Compact and the barrel is smooth as glass. I would call EAA and have it checked out.
  6. I have a new Witness Compact in 40 S&W that is giving me fits. When it was new it ran great except that the slide would lock back for no reason. After a few hundred rounds the slide cracked. I sent it back to EAA and they replaced the slide. With the new slide I am having a lot of trouble getting this thing to cycle. Even with no mag or ammo the slide would catch at a certain point and hang up. I figured it needed to be broken in, so I lubed it up, plopped my ass in front of the TV and racked the slide back and forth till my blisters popped. It's better, not great, but better. It does not hang up without a mag anymore, but it still hangs in the same place with a loaded mag. It hangs just before the bullet contacts the feed ramp. If I give the slide a little push with my thumb it will close. So, I'm out of ideas except for maybe a heavier recoil spring. Might be enough help get this thing to cycle? Problem is I can't find any springs for this thing. It is a compact 40 S&W that has a two spring system. Anyone now where I can get a set of heavier springs for this Compact Model? Thanks
  7. I've got a new EAA Witness Compact in 40 that's giving me a bit of trouble and I could use some help. This gun is new and has about 100 rounds through it. So far I have only fired handloads through it. 180gr Montana Gold seated to 1.125, medium charges of 3n37 and 231, run through the Redding GR-X die and crimped with the Lee Factory Crimp die. I'm getting some failure to feed. The slide will lock back on occasion with rounds still in the mag. I know it is not my thumb as it does this even when shooting right hand only. I also get a few "stove pipes" now and then, at least one per Mag. Think maybe this gun just needs some more range time to get broken in or is there something else going on? Thanks Steve Oh, I forgot to mention, I have three different mags, one that came with the pistol and 2 that I purchased direct from EAA. Same issues with all three.
  8. I have had similar problems with my Elite Match. I found that lubing the mag just creates more problems down the road, the more I shoot the more crap gets built up in he mag. I have been lubing my mags and followers with graphite, you know, the little tube you get at the Hobby store. Puff some powder into the mag and all over the follower and I am good to go for hundreds of rounds. BTW, I seat my 180gr JHP at 1.245.
  9. I have a new PO-6 and now I need a holster. I am having difficulty finding any manufacturer that lists the PO-6, is there other CZ models that use the same holster ar the PO-6? Thanks Steve
  10. I just picked up my 2nd Witness. This one is a 40 S&W Compact 2005. Took it out for a test drive today with a few different kinds of ammo, Had some cheap Blazer Aluminium, Winchester WW and Blazer Brass. It had a few feeding problems at first, but after about 50 rounds it cleared up and shot great. After a few more boxes of ammo it started to through fliers and the accuracy was gone. Took it apart for inspection and found the slide had cracked about 1 1/2 inches from the muzzle, the recoil spring is all bent and mangled and the barrel has a deep gouge or grove just under the locking lugs. I have read that some of the older Witnesses had problems with the slides cracking, but I thought that issue was resolved. Is this still a problem with the 40 S&W Compact or did I just get a lemon? Thanks Steve
  11. Thanks Mike, but the regular Grams kit will not work in the Compact model. The compact follower has a 1/4 inch notch cut into the front of it that the standard mag and follower does not have.
  12. I just picked up another Witness. This time it's a 40 S&W Compact Steel Wonder. This is supposed to be a 12 round mag, but like my 10MM Elite getting a full mag with the original spring/follower is next to impossible. I was checking out Henning's site hoping to find some Grams engineering springs and followers that would fit this Compact Model. Not exactly sure what I'm looking for, but I don't think they are available, am I correct? So, on to my questions, are there any spring/follower kits that work a little better than the factory ones in the 40 Compact? If not, I need to get a few mags and some extra springs, can you help me with the proper mags and springs for the Compact? Thanks.
