Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I have a JP LRP-07, came with their low mass carrier. I noticed the hole in the cam pin has the opposite orientation than my AR-15's cam pins. When I assemble the low mass bolt carrier group, I cannot turn the cam pin as you would normally do with my other AR's, otherwise the hole in which the firing pin goes through is oriented the incorrect way and the firing pin cannot be installed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this standard with JP's low mass carriers or with their side chargers?
  2. I've had 3 rifles cerakoted by Tim from Alternative Coatings, www.acoating.com Very happy with the results. 1 had a custom color, he's very willing to work with you to get you the color you want.
  3. I had a conversion barrel for my G35 before. Had a lot of FTE's. I was told to change out the extractor when shooting 9mm for reliable extraction. Ended up getting a G17 and G34.
  4. When I first started shooting matches, I bought a G35 thinking I can shoot it in USPSA production with a conversion barrel. I was wrong, wasn't allowed to shoot with the conversion barrel. When using the conversion barrel I had a lot of FTE's so I didn't even want to shoot the convesion barrel and ended up selling it. Then I got a G17. Shot it in USPSA production for a few years, IDPDA, and even a few local steel matches. Turned my G35 into a limited gun. Eventually got a G34 and still use it in USPSA production and local steel matches, stopped shooting IDPA. Short answer, recommend a G34. For holster, my preference is Ready Tactical. Mag pouches, CR speed but won't work for IDPA. I used to use cheap kydex mag pouches made by someone from another forum, it was real cheap (2 for $20) back in 2003, still have them. Belt is CR speed but used to use Wilderness Tactical for USPSA and IDPA before I stopped shooting IDPA. Before you pick a holster and mag pouches, you have to ask yourself, are you really going to shoot IDPA? If so, you'll have to pick IDPA compliant holster and mag pouches, and that'll limit your options.
  5. Slip 2000 725 gun cleaner. Water based, non-caustic, biodegradable. Runs $6.99 for 4 oz, $13.29 for 16 oz.

    17 or 19

I take it when you say home defense, you're not going to conceal carry. If that's the case a G17. If you are considering conceal carry at all and if you're only going to get 1 handgun, then a G19. The best answer is to get both. You can always try shooting both and pick the one you like better. Still, get both.
  7. Got the blade tech drop and off set attachments through Dillons. I experimented with dropped and offset Blade Tech AR mag pouches.
  8. +1 on Dillons. Luckily they're local so I can just stop by.

    SR22

I know this is a really old thread but didn't want to add another thread when this thread will suffice. Bought a Ruger SR22 on a whim. Just wanted a 22lr pistol and tired of dealing with the reassembly on my Ruger MkII and how finicky my Glock conversion with types/brands of ammo. What I wanted was a 22lr that was under $400 and would just work with any ammo. Found this for $300. I have to say this works with every type of 22lr I've tried. From CCI standard velocity, Federal Automatch, Federal hallow points, CCI velocitors hallow points. From 600 rounds, only 1 FTF. Even includes an adapter to add a threaded adapter. Disassembly and reassembly is easy, no small parts to lose. I ordered a kydex holster from DeLaRosa tactical, may run this in one of our local steel matches in a fun run. Dislikes. I do have several things I don't like about it. I hate the magazine safety. First gun that I own that has this and hate it. I hate how the safety lever pulls down to safe position and up for fire position, it's so counterintuitive. I was a little worried about how the grip sleeve just slides off but haven't had any issues with it, takes some force to yank the grip sleeve off. And magazine prices, about $28-35. I took advantage of the 20% discount through shopruger.
  10. Have a couple P30's, V1 and V3, HK45 V1, HK45c V1. For carry I recommend the HK45c. Yes the spidey grips on the HK45 is better but I use a Lone Wolf Qwik Grip for more texture. It doesn't hand as much girth as the Hogue grip and doesn't grab on to clothes as much as the Hogue. Other people use the Pachymar and Uncle Mike's slip on grips, I have no experience with them. You can also stipple. I would love to see someone stipple a HK45c grip to make it similar to the spidey grips. I do like the P30 in V1 and V3. If I were to carry one of them it would be the V3. Feel a little safer with the first shot DA and the reset on the V1's are longer. I also have a G19 and M&P Shield that I carry. It depends on what I'm doing and how I'm dressed. I guess the main question is would you carry a 9mm or 45?
  11. Glad you like you P30. I like mine as well but the front sight came flying off during the first time I shot it. Yes it was brand new, V1. Had to send the slide to H&K. I too found it a little snappy but once I became accustomed to the grip and found a way to grip it high enough without messing with that huge slide lever, I'm able to get faster follow-up shots. Granted its not like shooting my G17 and G34 but its on par with my G19. It is more accurate than I expected though. My sights are stock and surprised I can get as good of groups as my G19 with Warren/Sevigny's. I also had problems with the slide not loading the first round correct which cause a failure to feed on the first round only. But after cleaning, it was fine. Nowadays I tend to clean less often, but shoot more often. I am breaking it in with 124gr as recommended by H&K. Not exactly sure why they recommend the 124gr but this time I'll follow directions. With my current problems, it won't be my carry conceal but it's a fun range gun, possibly some IDPA.
  12. I'm one of those people who can't use an extended slide release/lock lever. I change them out to the standard and haven't had any issues in 5 years. But for some reason I don't have the problem of engaging the slide lock on my P30 and that thing is massive.
  13. Mine doesn't always lock back either but I rarely let my mag run dry before changing during a stage.
  14. Where does one get a factory refurbished Glock, especially for $200 less than new?
