Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Transfer rates of G-Drives were at least close to what they advertised. I guess that explains why their products are so expensive. When I said WD, I meant the normal USB 2.0/3.0 Hard Drives that you would find in the 120-160 dollar price range. I have plenty of WD Passport 2TB hard drives and I love them....for holding normal documents and movies/music. But if you want to use a hard drive for "edit-in-place" tasks (video/intense photo editing) then paying the extra dough is worth it. Also consider external enclosures such as Macally storage enclosures (you can find them in Amazon). The one with Firewire 800 is about 100 bucks. Of course this is only if you already have firewire ports (aka Mac Mini, towers, older MacBook Pros). I'm pretty sure the new MacBook Pros don't come equipped with them. I've placed 3TB hard drives in them, no problem.
  2. Go for the MacBook Pro, it's portable if you ever want to travel with it, and you can very easily connect it to one or two screens using the thunderbolt to HDMI cable. External HD - Anything will work. I would highly recommend you format it to EXFAT configuration before you start transfering data into it. FAT32 will have a 4GB restriction which seems a stretch to reach until it happens. And when it happens it sucks. And EXFAT is cross compatible with Mac and PC. SSD - No matter what, make sure that SSD is installed. 128GB is doable, 256GB is recommended. If you are the type the places everything on clouds and external hard drives, go for 128GB. If you are the type that creates high resolutions videos, photos, and you might watch videos on your main hard drive, you need at least 256GB. Especially if you are going to identify your scratch disk for Adobe Premiere Pro to your main hard drive, 256GB is pivotal for performance. Windows or not to Windows? - Plain and simple, you either can go for virtualization (Parallels or VMWare) or you can go for the pre-installed BOOTCAMP. I've installed bootcamp on multiple Macs and it works great. I've installed Parallels and VMWare too with no problems. They all work and they are all easy to use. The difference is with 3rd party software the integration with the Mac desktop is awesome. Bad news is that you will never be able to use all your resources and cores like you would with BOOTCAMP. Seriously though, the only time bootcamp really mattered was when I was trying to make a AutoDesk 3D/Maya machine...which is not needed in your case. Off An External - Yes, you can work on video and HIRES photoshop on an external hard drive or even a networked server. HOWEVER, I would recommend G-Drive hard drive via Firewire connection (or whatever they have out these days) or a wired connection for both the server and your Mac Mini/MacBook Pro. I've worked on video through a G-Drive that was ridiculously large, with no problems. With a cheap WD hard drive from Walmart...fail. I'm currently using a Lenovo laptop with 256GB/16GB RAM and it renders videos faster than non-SSD MacBook Pros. In other words, SSD makes a huge difference so if you have limited funds...that's the first priority. If you could afford the LED Cinema Apple Displays...they are 1000 bucks a pop. Go for it, they are beautiful!
  3. Use Handbrake It's free, has versions for both Mac and PC, and it's super friendly to use
  4. Try going to this website: Adobe Flash Player to confirm what flash player is installed. This page also gives you the official uninstaller. Look at the OS, it says whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 version installed, download that uninstaller, make sure all browsers are closed, and then uninstall your flash player, after that RESTART your computer. After that, go to the Adobe Flash Player website: download the newest version, and then install it. Hopefully that fixes it. FYI, there are two flash players, one for IE and one for Firefox/Safari/etc. Chrome has a built-in Adobe Flash Player. I would recommend you see if it works on other browsers too. If that all doesn't work, sometimes simply resetting the IE browser settings would fix it...this fixes very odd problems, doesn't hurt to try: Go to Internet Options --> Advanced --> Reset... - keep in mind this brings your IE to its default settings.
  5. Good to see that it worked. I don't own anything Apple (other than an old shuffle) myself...it's torture enough for me to handle Macs at work everyday. Once websites start moving towards HTML5, iPad users will be able to watch embedded videos. Until then though, hopefully someone here has some insight on how to enable embedded video viewing without using links. Diana
  6. I think it's more up to the web designers versus the users to make embedded videos iPad (aka HTML5) compatible. Curious, try going to: http://www.youtube.com/html5 and click on "Join HTML5 Trial". You may have to have a YouTube account to sign up. After you have joined the trial, go to YouTube Blog and see if you can play the embedded video on your iPad. If this works, you're pretty much playing the video without using Adobe Flash.
  7. Have you tried it with other browsers? (IE, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) Are you trying to access it via laptop/desktop or on a mobile device? When you click on the video, what does it show? Is it gray? Black? Do any warnings or error messages pop up? Is this for every embedded video, or only embedded videos on this forum? When folks had problems on their computers, I would have them update Adobe Flash, enable cookies, or try another browser all together. Usually one of these would work... Diana
  8. Any update on when the super squad video compilations might be available to watch? Not anytime soon, he's backpacking somewhere in Brazil right now. When he comes home in springtime, I'll try to remind him to do a super squad men compilation. There's so much footage he can use!
  9. Jung, 1. SJC Customs makes 4th generation magwells I think. 2. I have that 10 dollar more belt...not worth it, just get the normal one and you'll be fine. 3. Not sure about this one, someone purchased a pretty cheap fiber optic front from MidwayUSA a while back. It worked very well. That being said, I would highly recommend getting a competition two piece (front and rear) and be done with it. 4. Are you trying to get into Limited division? You could try submitting a "WTB" request on the classifieds. Maybe someone wants to get rid of their CR Speed/Bladetech rig. I use Safariland mag holders and those work great too. Diana
  10. It took him even longer to make this video than last time...I think because he had so many hours of video to play with (it's partly my fault too, the minute I left, he was productive). For anyone thinking that there should be more coverage of the super squad men instead, he has hours of footage from them too (PROD/REV/OPN/LIM). The only squad he didn't videotape was L-10, he didn't know there was a super squad in that division. Hopefully that will be out within the next century or two. Diana
  11. Actually, there are many USPSA shooters who are in active duty from all branches (USAMU shooters are an example). Do they use military rigs to participate? 99.99% I say don't (I sure as hell didn't). The remaining .01%, never seen them.
  12. If you want to hold some production guns, there's a match @ Monson, MA this Sunday (it's not that bad of a drive from Boston). After the match I'll be happy to let you feel out the CZ Shadow, M&P Pro, XDM, or Glock. PM me and I'll bring the guns with me so you can do some dryfiring with them over a safe table after the match. They are all customized though so ummm...I think they will feel a hell of a lot better than the Beretta or Sigma. Just sayin'
  13. You go Maize! I have no doubt that you will be cruising into C class within a year. Don't worry too much about your draw time or splits. Keep your accuracy up, that's the most important thing. As for your stance, like Mark said, make that stance wider and bend your knees. The more aggressive your stance is, the more you will be able to control the recoil. Hope to shoot with you next shooting season! Diana
  14. Congrats on your performance Steve, 1st A and 3rd overall is awesome! I really hope Harvard gets Area 7 the next couple of years...not because it's so close to me and all...ahem.
  15. For those who don't go on the uspsa-ne website, temporary results are up. Area 7 Temp Results
