Looks for Target

Looks for Target (4/11)

  1. Congrats, Andy! I need to get back in the game.. Been almost a year since I shot a match and I am missing it.
  2. I've been busy and haven't fired a shot this month. Ugh...
  3. Ok Andy, I'll throw in. Just barely made A in Limited on the last update. I still have a couple of low scores dragging me down because I don't get to shoot as many matches as I'd like. If I make M in 2011 that would be sweet but realistically, I'll be thrilled to get over 80% considering that shooting doesn't fit into my schedule very well right now. One or two matches a month and zero practice time makes Gary a dull boy. Gary Jones TY62898 LTD 76.71%
  4. 3 A's, 1 C on those targets. I need to get one of those Hogue thumb pieces. I wish they were IDPA legal, too, though.
  5. As a matter of fact, the springs were directly under the crack. I'm pretty sure I did not make contact with the wall on the stage with the doors. either. see vid: Arthritis has seriously curbed my fun with the round gun, Gregg. Manipulating the cylinder release with my rt thumb is becoming more and more difficult, unfortunately.
  6. The last time I used this pistol was at Area 4. I decided to get it out and detail strip it last night and was pretty surprised to see this. This sight has been on the pistol for over 25k rounds and never given me any trouble. Is it possible that the cold temps at A4 in combination with major pf ammo could've caused this or is it coincidence? I took it apart and it's cracked all the way through. I had a spare sight and have already replaced it but wonder if I should go ahead and order another to have standing by if this is a common thing.
  7. Thanks, Paul. There have been a lot of road blocks in my way this year. Some I've gone around and some I've crashed through, but all have been overcome.
  8. A lot has happened since the last post. I had a ball at the Area 4 match. Cold, wet and muddy, but still a ton of fun. Didn't shoot great but definitely learned a lot. I've continued to shoot local USPSA, IDPA and Steel matches on a fairly regular basis but I have backed off quite a bit. Business is slow so I have to watch my expenses more closely. Between match fees, reloading componets and gasoline, the funds get burned up pretty fast. My divorce was final a couple of months ago too so now I've got a lot more to keep up with since nobody is helping (OR POLICING). I've been spending more time coaching other shooters that are highly motivated to improve. Honestly, I'm enjoying that more than pulling the trigger myself. Helping someone help themselves is much more satisfying at this point. My tendonitis is gone for the most part but my arthritis is worse. Go figure. Shooting major is becoming more and more taxing. I can do it but I pay for it later. So, I've been shooting minor 9mm in IDPA and at plate matches, major in USPSA only (since it actually matters). I have exceeded my weight loss goal for 09 by 6lbs and still have 6 weeks to go. I just have easily lost 60 by new years as long as I don't go crazy with holiday grub.
  9. My mail carrier gets somebody to put the box on the truck and she will knock on my door. If I am home, I can go to the truck and get the box. If I am not, she just takes it back to the post office with her. I don't like it but I do not complain. She's a little old lady.
  10. I spent some time working on my reload in dryfire practice today. Trying to break the habit of lowering the pistol to the mag instead of bringing the mag to the pistol. I think I'm getting there but want to get it completely ironed out before Area 4. This is probably the least of what I should be concerned about, though. I've also been picking apart videos of myself shooting and I see many things that need fixing. 1. Crowding walls, barricades, barrels and ports. I am aware of it, conciously think about NOT doing it in my stage planning and yet, there I am in the video sticking my gun through a port. 2. I'm not happy with the hesitation I see when leaving one position for another. 3. When shooting on the move, I move the same speed regardless of the amount of space between targets. For example, 3 targets, 5 yards apart, then a 10 yard gap to the next target. My feet are moving the same speed across the 10 yard gap while not shooting that they were while shooting the targets that were closer together. Like I'm on cruise control. The amount of time I'm wasting is huge. I'm not a track star by any stretch of the imagination but I know I can move faster than I am. Work has been way off, no jobs for September or October and only 2 on the calender before Christmas. So, I have cut way back on fuel consumption by dry firing at home instead of going to the range several times a week. Been shooting a lot of rimfire ammo to cut down on component consumption. Cooking at home more instead of eating out all the time, etc. The Area 4 match is probably going to be the last major match I am able to shoot in the foreseeable future so I plan to make the best of it.
  11. Right on, woohoo! Congrats!
  12. Thanks, guys. Mike, you better check with shooting chef and see if there are any area 4 slots left, if you're serious.
