Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. FWIW, Wolff makes heavy Glock recoil springs up to 24 pounds and up to 28 pounds for the 1911, but only up to 20 pounds for the Tanfoglio. However, we have a booster spring and guide rod that adds another 8 pounds for the Tanfo's. It makes it a dual spring setup like the Compact models. It may not be needed for 10mm, but I prefer to bump to 28 pounds when I'm shooting 9x25 Dillon, 9mm Super, and 40 Super. Tony Rumore Tromix
  2. I have all 8 Witness configurations, poly, steel, large frame, small frame, full size, and compact. Barrels and mags are the same between the poly and steel frame guns, but the slides are different......provided both are either large or small frame. You "typically" can't run a large frame slide on a small frame gun or vise versa. However, it is possible, with some work, to run a large poly slide on a small steel frame. Like JDK said above, if you put a poly slide on a steel frame or vice versa (of the same frame size), it will run, but there will be a mis-match at the back of the frame. The back of the slide won't be flush with the back of the frame, but the firing pin location is the same, so the hammer can still hit it square. The easiest way to determine if you have a large or small frame gun, is to look at the barrel through the ejection port with the slide in battery. At the front of the ejection port, you will see the barrel's locking lug groove on a large frame gun, but you won't see the lug on a small frame gun. Tony Rumore Tromix Edited to add: I don't have a P-Match though, so I am not sure if it's frame geometry is the same as a standard Poly gun or not.
  3. I started with a standard large frame steel Witness and used a 45 ACP long slide and a 6" 40SW barrel (not coned). The reamer was made by PTG and I had them install an extended pilot on it, so it would be in the bore before the reamer started cutting the shoulder. Once I had it chambered and head spaced, I made a small diameter guide rod so I could install a double recoil spring. It came out to a bit over 30 pounds. I use standard 45 ACP factory mags in it. However, it can only handle about 6 rounds or they start to nose-over and feed too low.....a common problem with the 40 Super. It's not an issue for me, since I only use it for hunting. I later purchased a 45 ACP Hunter pistol and swapped the 40 Super barrel over to it. Unfortunately, it's recoil rod is different than the standard Witness, so my 30 pound spring setup won't work in it. I'm going to have to make a new guide rod for that gun as well. I can also run my 6" 10mm barrel in the Hunter's 45 ACP slide, and it works fine in 10mm with a 10mm extractor installed. Swapping back to 45, or 40 Super, I just leave the 10mm extractor is place since it works with both size rims. Velocity from the 6" barrel is as follows: 135gr Sierra 1820fps 150gr Sierra 1735fps 165gr Sierra 1675fps 180gr Sierra 1565fps 200gr XTP 1450fps I have barrels/slides for this frame in 22LR, 9mm, 357 Sig, 38 Super, 40SW, 10mm, 40 Super, and 45 ACP. 4. Do you have dies and brass for it? Tony
  5. Well that could be. I heard there were three different versions/dimensions of the chamber reamer and the original drawing was taken off the W3PS website awhile back. Tony
  6. They blew the lugs off the AR-15 barrel extensions. Tony
  7. I'm not even going to comment on this.....just sharing what was posted on gunsumerreports.com
  8. I've always wondered why the folks who make the AA12 don't have a semi auto version????? I've heard the way the mags go in is a little ackward on those as well??? Why not have a semi auto version with AR style flattop and AR style mag insertion? Nick The AA12 has a super slow rate of fire that allows you to easily fire singles if you want. Firing from an open bolt, it still would not be legal for civilians in semi auto. They would have to redesign it into a closed bolt semi in order to sell it on the civilian market. And even then, I'm not sure it would clear the DD opinion of the ATF for size. I think it is too tall, top to bottom. Could be wrong though.....I don't have one.
  9. Jeez....get over yourself. Tromix made the first custom AKDAL posts/parts on this board in May of 2011 and have been working on a slew of parts ever since. Just like Firebird. Tony Rumore Tromix
  10. The trigger return spring is overly stiff. You can bend the legs on the spring or install an AR-15 trigger spring to lighten the pull. The disconector spring is also overly long and stiff. You can replace that with an AR-15 spring as well. In its present state, the hammer bangs into the disconector hook pretty hard before it can cam it out of the way. By changing the spring, it smooths it up quite a bit. Tony
  11. I got bitch slapped on this forum for posting an "advertisement" in the past. So, NO. I won't post a pic of the gas booster bushing or tell you where to get one. That would be against the rules on this forum. Tony Rumore Tromix
  12. The factory barrel is 19.75" You could install a mid barrel comp where the front sight is, but it wouldn't give you much dwell past the comp. It would probably work better to run the shorter hand guards and move the comp further rearward. We're working on a railed forend right now and plan to have a long and short version. The mil-spec picatinny rail will extend back over the receiver's non-spec rail to give you one long ass plane to mount whatever you want. During testing, the guns did not want to cycle light birdshot out of the box. However, installing a booster bushing over the gas bypass spring allowed the guns to run just fine on Walmart bulk pack ammo (Rem/Fed). Tony Rumore Tromix
  13. You have around .004" between your go and no-go gauges. So "fitted" could me quite a few different things. Is it fitted at .000", .001", .002" or what? Calling it "fitted" doesn't tell you squat. Fitted could also me lapping the lugs to the barrel extension to ensure all the opposing lugs are in 100% contact with each other. When I used to build long range small caliber AR's, I would set the headspace at .001" off the go gauge and lap the lugs. As to whether it improved accuracy....I don't know, but it just seemed like a good idea at the time. Tony
  14. The barrel is not thick enough to cut external threads with the screw-in chokes in place. You would have to loctite your brake in place with #620 bearing mount. Also, the barrel is actually smaller diameter about 6 inches back from the muzzle, then flares out and gets thicker....I imagine to work with the screw-in chokes. I don't know if it would hold up to thousands and thousands of rounds. It doesn't appear flimsy other than the plastic sights that are going down the road anyway. Tony Rumore
