Finally got my Mr. Bulletfeeder.

Recommended Posts

After thinking about it for two years I decided to add a Mr, Bullet Feeder to my Dillon RL650. The case feeder was a great improvement and I didn't think I wanted a bullet feeder but with a little luck I was able to get it for free.

I cleaned out my garage and found about $1000 worth of equipment I didn't use. Holsters, Moon Clip Holders, lots of new brass in calibers I no longer shoot and a few other items. I also got a deal on a new credit card that if I spent $500 I would get a $200 bonus. So, after selling most of my items and the credit. ( it's easy to spend $500 on a cruise ) I decided Now was the time to add the bullet feeder.

It took me an hour to put it all together and start cranking out ammo.

I did 100 round in 8 minutes. Only problem was a few of the bullets came out upside down. I could quickly spot them and then just turn them over to the correct orientation and continue pulling the arm for more rounds.

I can see this being one of the best investments for my shooting. I will be able to load much quicker and have enough ammo for my practice sessions as well as a few matches in only a few hours.

Very nice. I anticipate receiving mine early next week. It's for .40. After I get it set up and understand it's workings, I'll consider a 9mm conversion kit. I load more 40 than 9 and would like to hear from those with experience if the conversion is worth it. And is there some kind of formula like; yes conversion, but only if you're loading X amount of rounds per session. It's certainly much cheaper than buying a second unit.

Congrats on your unit. It sounds like a little adjusting should solve the upside down bullet problem.

If you're getting upside down bullets within every 100 it needs some more tuning. I get an upside down maybe one in a thousand IF I tune it correctly for whatever bullet I'm loading. I load 2 brands of 125gn, some 124, 115, 135 and 147gn all in 9mm/38 super. It does need a little adjustment when switching bullet type. Adjust both nose guide and flipper. Get on a step so you can watch it collate. Makes tuning much easier. Once setup right it runs near 100%.

I haven't had an upside down bullet for like 8000 or so. It did start with about 1-2 upside downs every 300 rounds, but it got much better after I spent 2 hours fine tuning the angle and trying different shims.

Two things control the upside bullets - the ramp slide, and the spacers. The most critical, in my experience, is the stack of spacers. Usually more spacers is better than less.

I kind of agree but I'd say it's 4 things:

Angle of the collator. Usually once this is sorted it doesn't need changing for different pistol bullets but it might.

Position of the nose guide in or out - can need changing if switching from pointy bullets to less pointy.

Height of the nose guide - changed by the shims. This is something I usually change going from shorter (say 115gn) to longer (147gn) bullets.

Ramp position. This is changed in two ways. How close the ramp is to the collator disk (in and out) and also how close the start is to the nose guide (it pivots in and out for proximity to the disk and moves in a slot to get closer or further left and right from nose guide).

For me I set collator angle first. Then nose guide position and height. Then adjust ramp last.

You need to watch from a step it run to see what's happening.

It also seems to run better with a decent amount of bullets in there so don't be afraid to keep it topped up. :)

I bought one a few years ago because I had a bad case of tennis elbow. I did not want to spend the money because I thought it was not needed. After owning one, i think it is as needed as the case feeder. I can easily load 100 in 5 minutes. I think it is the best thing you can buy for a 650!! Enjoy!

Agreed. I was a massive sceptic. Then I was at a local gun shop and they had one on the shelf. I hadn't bought much else that day so I just bought it on impulse (it was a really unusual thing to ever see in stock sitting on shelf). I was amazed at how much easier and smoother it made an already very refined process. :)

Mine didn't have the 4 spacers in the box. I ordered them from Mr. Bulletfeeder and hope to get them in a few days. That should solve the problem.

Thanks for all the advice.

You can also easily cut shims out of any material or proper thickness - just make sure the bottom and the top ones are the MBF's parts, due to their fancy shape.

I did that, when I found out that all shims, that came with the machine, were still not enough for my very short bullets. A simple piece of .040" aluminum, sandwiched between the "official" shims did the trick.

Just got mine installed today. I'm using it to reload Bayou 9mm 124gr RN. I just did what they said in the vedios and it worked great. There was too much tension on the spring tube causing the dropper to bind, but after I moved the coalator a bit closer it seems Work better. The only thing I noticed is that the cases seem to stick onto the powder drop a bit. If I back off the adjustment a little the bullets start falling out. It's working, but I'm wandering if this is normal.

If you are using the powder funnel supplied by the bullet feeder than yes it is normal that the cases stick a little .

And if you mean that the bullets are falling out of the dropper if you back out the die to far than this is also normal .

Sorry. Yes, I meant the cases are sticking to the powder funnel that came with the Mr Bullet Feeder. When I adjust the powder funnel up a small amount to stop this the bullets don't go into the case far enough and fall out. So it appears that the proper adjustment will/may require the case to be pulled off the funnel by the shell plate. Maybe I need to keep trying, or perhaps it's the coated bullets. I'm also using mixed range brass. I'm pretty happy with the feeder, just want to make sure I don't run it a year only to find out I had it adjusted wrong.

This is so common you can almost call it normal. Some people complain about it, some put a bit of One-Shot on a napkin and apply it to the powder funnel (wears out too soon), others just accept it. I have the particular way of moving the handle, so I fly through that point, without spilling the powder. But if your case is nearly full, that might not work.

Overall I still prefer the MBF funnel over Dillon's, but some will disagree. :)

Same here. I just power through the grab and it becomes second nature

Min ine just showed up in 9mm/38, now I get to go out and set it up. Yeh no more loading plastic tubes.

Got it set up and running. The user manual is poor to say the least, thank goodness for utube video's. First 100 rounds had a few issues, next 100 took about 5 minutes to load. Had some problems with the bullet dropper dropping more then one bullet at a time. Ended up placing a rubber band around it and down to a bolt sticking out to help hold it down as it was sticking up. Used all the shims for the 124g MG jhp and adjusted the nose guide out a bit. That was about it, only a couple hundred rounds loaded so far but loving it so far.

yep, my dropper was sticking in the up position a little at first too. I re-watched vids and saw it should move fully up and down as far as it can travel.

The absolute LAST resort is stretching the spring tube.

Things you can do that will fix the dropper sticking up and dropping doubles:

move the collator further forward (assuming 650) to shorten the distance between collator and dropper, this takes any tension of the spring tube.

use a tie from the case feed support to pull the spring tube so it's sitting in line with the dopper.

do what you did and use a rubber band to introduce some down pressure on the dropper

use it more: I found after some time my dropper sort of wore in a little and would easily move back down after dropping a bullet.

they seem just a little prone to sticking up at first.

once setup and run in they are super reliable. I'd say about on par with the dillon case collator and feeder which for me is damn near 100%. I'd say one case feed problem every 3,000 or more.

"The absolute LAST resort is stretching the spring tube."

That is not required, and should be avoided.

Two other remedies:

1. Rubber band the spring to the powder measure, so the portion below what band has no pulling.

2. Buy the extension spring. They sell it for just a few dollars. Connect it to the existing spring, and trim it to the ideal length.

That is what I ended up doing.

When ordering, specify large or small diameter spring. Small for rifle bullets, large for pistol.
