Street Survival
Hey Guys, I need your assistance. I am currently reloading Moly Coated, Baer Creek, 200grn SWC on my Dillon Super 1050 and am using Unique Gun Powder. Wow is this stuff dirty and leave a cloud of toxic smoke behind for me to breath. Not good! What is your recommendations for a nice clean powder that flows nicely and is fairly priced. Thank you all in advance for your sage advice, I really appreciate it. pjames32
Accurate 5 has been good for me.
Mahlsan
I use Trail Boss, I load it light for plinking purposes and with the way the powder is designed no way of ever having a double charge and not knowing. It will fill the case, but that is what it is designed to do, and can be compressed.
Breacher217
I switched from Universal to WST. I'm very happy with the WST.
Nickb45
I've always used WST and love it. I did get a hold of 18 pounds of Scot Solo 1000, I think I like it more than WST.

ljnowell
AA#5 or #2. They are both the best metering powders out there and make very good ammo. I use #2 in all of my bullseye competition loads. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rocice
Any powder that I can push a BBI 200gr SWC to 830-835fps with.
mikeinctown
Depends on what powder you have available. I was speaking with a guy I got some LPP from yesterday and he mentioned he really liked Bullseye with his 185 loads. Claimed very clean.
Max It
you can choose which powder! lucky guys. there hasn't been a choice on the shelf here in SoCal in years. anyway I see some good choices above.
Street Survival
Anyone have a source for WST gun powder?
Brassaholic13
If he thinks Bullseye is clean, I'd hate to see what he'd have to shoot to consider it dirty. I like Clays, personally. WST is also very good. Viht N340 also works for me in a pinch.
techj
a lot of the smoke will be from the molly coating. powders that I like are aa#5 and bullseye.
Street Survival
Thanks Techj, I didn't know that. I thought it was the powder.
moonman16
Dump the MOLY projectiles and get some HI-TEK coated ones try Bayou Bullets, Gateway Bullets, Black Bullets International, SNS Casting, LNL Casting, Missouri Bullets now offers them. Vithavouri powders are clean and meter nicely, hard to find at the moment and costly.
Street Survival
Moonman of all the aforementioned which company do you like the best? Thanks for your sage assistance, I really appreciate it.
flyingrhino
W231 is in stock at MidwayUsa. I just ordered 16 pounds. It's clean, ball powder. Meters VERY well. I used it for all my pistol loads until it became impossible to find.
Hi-Power Jack
I used WW231 for many years - still have couple pounds lying around The WW231 is a very nice powder - the N320 might be better, but I've never tried it.
wgj3
Any of the coated bullets mentioned in this thread or of the forums period should help a TON with the smoke. BBI is a great supporter on the games we like to play. Add ETR-7 and Ramshot Comp to your possible powder list. I'm currently working through my second 8# jug of Promo powder with 200gr .45 SWC's. It used to be "cheap"... Edited July 29, 2016 by wgj3
DagoRed
I was using w231, and I have used AA5. AA5 I agree is awesome to work with, very accurate loads. But it can be very hard to find for months on end (I'm in CA too) and take more powder. My buddy turned me on to nitro 100 NF, it's my current favorite and I make major with 4.2 grains. I use bayou 200 SWC Red
Kaldor
While not hugely experienced... I use Acme HiTek coated bullets in my 45. 230gr with TiteGroup, 185gr with CFE Pistol. The gun stays pretty clean for me. YMMV
Absocold
E3 is my favorite all around powder. Low smoke, meters well, much softer recoil than any other powder out of dozens I've tried. Easier to find when supplies run low. At target matches I run WST for slightly better accuracy. If I can't find that I run W231. Bullseye has excellent accuacy but you often have to run it at lower pressures for best results and it's very dirty at low-mid pressure. Lucikly for .45acp there are tons of alternatives that work well.
