Another brass sorter

Some of you may have seen the brass sorter that I have built before but I ran across this one on another forum. It is pretty good for what many need and I don’t see how they can make any money at the $300 price (there was a coupon). At that price it might bridge the gap between the Camdex, Scharch and the shell sorter.

I don’t have anything to do with them but I do like gizmos and I couldn’t get my steel version of what they have to work, so hats off to the thinking man.

I have my doubts it's the ultimate, but it could well be better the the 10 finger system.

I will agree with that but when it cost less complete, than just one motor I used on mine does new and it does the work I was impressed. Hell, I have to give the designer a pat on the back to make a design I couldn’t get to work, work.

in the video you posted, the machine with the 2 steel rollers looks to be running fine. what was it that you couldn't get to work right?

The one I built runs fine and classifies better but I couldnt produce them for less than 10 times what they charge for that one.

If you look at thr web site it shows three bins so you still have to sort the 40/38/357 brass and the 44/45 brass. Neat system but still requires you to sort by hand.

You will also have 38 super, Super Comp and 380 to be hand sorted out.

Could a guy cobble something up with a Dillon casefeeder/hopper and then two diverging counter-rotating inclined rollers?

Or does the Dillon casefeeder NOT have enough gumption for that?

Hi,

I am the designer of the sorter discussed here and found this post from all the referrals coming to my site.

I appreciate everyone looking and all of the comments.

The most common concern seems to be about limited sorting. The design allows changing of the sorter tray to perform a secondary sort. I am working on trays for separating the 380s from the 9MM and another for the 40s and 38/357s. It will be a simple process to change the tray after the initial sort and resort the appropriate bin. I hope to have the 380/9MM tray ready within the next week with the 40/38 soon after. All of the brass I pickup has very little big stuff (44/50/500) so I never really thought much about it. I will definitely put that on the to-do list. The 38 Super might be the biggest problem for this type of sorting, but I will look into it.

Please keep in mind this unit was designed primarily for the non-commercial reloader. After accuracy and speed, size and price were important concerns. It will never compare to the $5,000.00+++ Scharch or Camdex and was not meant to.

In the basic configuration, it will do the bulk of the tedious part of the work.

I also recently added some accuracy test data to the site.

As to the noise... Yes vibration is fairly loud but not like at the range ;) . Ear plugs are not a bad idea while operating.

I welcome all constructive criticism.

I would also like to offer a discount to forum members. Just enter BEF9 at checkout for a $20.00 discount.

(Sorry for the long response.)

Thanks again,

Jeff

Swapping the trays out is a good idea, you could make it’s effective length longer while still keeping it compact.

The diameters are different enough to sort, 380 is .374, 9X19 is .394 and 38 super is .406, if the machining is precise enough. What I did on the roller one in the link above was simply watch where the case fell and then inserted a divider. Not only will it sort 380 out but it will even sort 9X18 from 9X19.

Thank God someone has developed a affordable sorter,,,now it wont take hours shaking sifters,,, I can spend more time reloading!!!!

Anything has to work better than sitting with 5 gallon buckets and slotted sorters

5 posts yesterday, none more than a sentence long except the thread you started about a hypothetical problem. If you need to sell something in the classifies just let me know.

I bought one, and did 9 5 gallon buckets yesterday. It works as advertised, and saved me hours. I started putting it together at 930am and was done sorting brass by 3pm.

Some of the best money I have spent on this type of equipment!

How did this sorter work out in the long run? Thanks

I bought one & it works nice. Saves eye strain but is loud. I just wear ear plugs. Its a long story but lets say it does a good job especiallu for the price. I no longer need to size large volumes so it may actually be for sale soon.

Thanks again for all the positive comments and reviews.

Stuck/nested cases are always a problem and while the vibration helps slightly, I don't think there is any cost effective machine method to separate them.

The machine has gone through a lot of upgrades in the last 4 years and is much more durable and now rated for continuous duty. We have many customers running these machine 8 hours a day all year with no issues. We also have customers that have run them 24 hours a day for months.
