Last weekend at St. George, UT I had an opportunity to chrono some loads. They were shot out of a CZ Tactical Sport (5.47" barrel) in .40 S&W.

100-104F was the average temperature. chrono was in the shade. 2,860' elevation.

Loads were mixed brass, using CCI SPP and Xtreme 180gr HP bullets. OAL was 1.130"

Load 1: 4.4 grains of N320

933

930

916

928

934

928

Average velocity 928.16, 167PF

Load 2: 4.6 grains of N320

948

957

976

969

971

Average velocity 964.2 173.6 PF

I guess 4.5 grains could be the ultimate load giving enough cushion.

Thanks for posting your data.

I'm currently running WSF for my TS .40 loads but have a small amount of N320 to do some test with. I'm not all unhappy with how the WSF shoots but I do get a a lot of velocity variation with it.

hmm.....I'm at 4.9 grains with the same gun, same bullets but without the heavy plate (HP). Also, I'm about 900 feet above sea level and it was 79 degrees at the Ohio match when I chrono'd last.

I have found a lot of these bullets coming up light, so I had a bigger margin of error. At Ohio, the bullet weighed 179.9 and I came out with a 174 PF. I'm happy with how it feels and the accuracy.

Thanks for posting, I may try the HP in the future.
