First PCC match

Recommended Posts

Well with temperatures hovering around 92 I decided to bring out the PCC gun for some fun.

Shot it as a second run, long day but I digress. Had to coach the RO a bit on the procedure, but he caught on pretty quickly.

No issues. Had a lot of fun with it. Will probably make it my primary gun for a while.

I also had a chance to shoot PCC officially yesterday just as a main gun. We also convinced another guy (it didn't take a lot of convincing) to also shoot PCC since he happened to have it in his car. It took a little coaching for the RO'S to understand the bagging procedure. The look on the RO'S face was priceless when I told him that I'm going to face uprange with my pcc pointed strait down and walk to my bag that was at the beginning of the stage to bag it. After a few stages the none pcc were getting the handle of it, and so much that I might have convinced another club to look at running PCC.

Couple of stages from the match

Gary,

What do you suggest we do if we don't have an RMI shooting all of our matches? I guess what I'm getting at is, the RO needed coaching in PCC, and it's not a good idea having shooters teaching ROs how to do something. That's how we end up with your way, my way and the right way no?

I feel DNROI could at least send out a test just like they do for recert and have all RO's theoretically up to speed on PCC in a matter of days

The issue with that Sarge is that you're assuming that those who ro lvl1 matches are RO'D certified to begin with.

Yup doing nothing is a way better idea then doing any training.

Then do something to certify MD's so they can train there helpers. My point is training should come from top down not bottom up.

And remember, I'm fine with PCC. :)

Why would he Dq me when I did not break the 180?

In looking at it a couple times, I can't really tell where the 180 is due to the placement of that target. If the 180 is the fault line, then that target on the left forces any shooter into a 180 issue.

I think I'm coming across wrong, what I'm trying to get at is at least locally here we have issues with getting certified ro's to come out to locals and spread out in the squads. So normal shooters have to step up to Ro. I kept a copy of the best practice document with me in case someone had questions

Someone with nothing better to do always finds a 180 violation in every video on YouTube. Even though it's two dimensional footage of a three dimensional sport shot from well behind the view the RO had.

Personally, I'm never looking for it. They'd have to be pushing the 230* before I'd notice - I just wanna watch you shoot!

I think pushing a quick 10 question top up test to ROs would be a great move anytime there are big changes to the rules. For example adding CO and PCC. It would not take long and may help motivate some who don't like to read rules on their own. Then incorporate those questions into the pool for annual testing.

I suggested a video tutorial on another thread. They were able to show us how to handle the gun via you tube. We had our firts guy run a pcc. I think he was the only one who knew the rules.

I printed the Best Practice's information from the uspsa webpage. Made sure our classifier had the updated walk through that includes PCC. The main thing I covered with my RO was the use of the chamber flag. The rest was fairly normal.

We will flesh this out at our next match shooters meeting.

Doing a test first is putting the cart before the horse. you need to get the rules to the RO's first, a video of how to bag and un-bag, placing and removing the PCC from a cart in back of a stage ect...

Same experience at my club with it being the clubs first time running it. I got a hold of the MD a few days before the match and reminded him that this was our first match with PCC. I pointed him to the info on the USPSA site and suggested he print copies for the stage boxes. I cart carried all day and after a brief talk with the ROs about the rules, really the only hiccup was ROs being so used to the normal ULSCIFCHDH commands that a few times the PCC commands got fumbled at the end of the run. Cant really blame them, anyone who has ROed for a decent amount of time has the pistol commands right ready to go at the end of a run.

We had our first USPSA handgun match with PCC yesterday. I printed out a PCC primer poster to hang at each stage, plus we put out dedicated PCC staging areas (also with a poster outlining what could and could not be done there). We also put printed copies of PCC Addendum and Best Practice documents on each stage and at Registration. Oh, and we had chamber flags for sale also for folks who lacked them.

We had a good turnout of carbine shooters, and everyone seemed to have a positive experience. A few ROs bobbled the commands (no big deal), but that's about it. The world did not come to an end

I'll be honest and admit that I bumble through the revo commands. I RO probably one or two of them per year. I expect to RO many times more PCC shooters. Even one of the Vegas MDs bought a PCC.

Our local club had one PCC shooter this past weekend and things went smooth as silk. He had his gun bagged so when we walked to the bay, he walked to the side berm and laid his bag down. When it was his turn to shoot. He went to get his PCC, un-bagged it and carried it to the line muzzle up. At Make Ready, took out the chamber flag and went about the stage. Afterward, he put the chamber flag back in then carried it back to his bag by the berm. After 3 stages I was a little jealous I didn't have a PCC to shoot, lol. Looked like a lot of fun

Although slightly late, I took a suggestion from one of our esteemed members. I posted the USPSA rule changes and best practices to my clubs webpage. I then sent a group e-mail to everyone directing them to the webpage.

Still can't find a Betamax player to play a video. I hear there hard to find for some reason.
