zzt
Buy 10 packs of 357 on Amazon for $9 or so. 3 pack of Duracell 1/3N is under $10.

Bamboo
The dollar store sells 4 packs of lr44/357 batteries for $1.
zzt
While LR44 batteries can replace 357 batteries, they are not the same. The LR44 is an alkaline battery and looses voltage from the moment it is used. The 357 is a silver oxide battery and maintains voltage almost until the end. So your dot stays the same brightness throughout unlike with alkaline or lithium batteries.
Bamboo
Yep the silver oxide 357s do a better job at keeping the dot bright...until the end of it's life, then the dot dies a rapid death. For me the cheaper batteries work fine as I can get about 3 months out of a pair (I turn off between stages) before i start seeing the dot dim, and the dimming is gradual and not sudden so there is plenty of warning to replace the batteries. I keep the used ones and use them in the LED booklight I keep on my reloading press to check powder level. So, there is a balance of pros/cons and the alkaline batteries work for me....and I am cheap.

LarryPScott
I use lighted bobber batterys from walmart. They are cheap and work good. And very easy to get.
TheClaw
I think the 3 x 357 batteries are the way to go. I steer clear of the cheaper ones. They tend to die way too quickly. Duracells will get you through a match even if they are left on and forgotten about it. Turn then off, and about 10 mins later, they are good to go. You can at least finish the match.easier to keep a spare set in your bag.

driver8M3
EBAY a couple of years ago i bought 100 of the cheapo 357s from china on ebay....for $15...shipped! but, these batteries do suck. my duracell died last weekend and i had to go to my backup chinese batteries before a steel challenge match. 6 stages later i had to put a new pair in (and that was with turning the dot off between stages). Amazon has pretty good prices on the duracell 1/3Ns. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008A0CCN0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=

I can run 3 or 4 steel matches with these batteries. Since they are so cheap I'll run 2 matches and then change them. For uSPSA I change before every match. 5pc 10pk SR44 Silver Oxide 1.55V Watch Battery Replaces SR445W SR1154 USA SHIP I also bought these and had no problems. 20 pk Eunicell CR1/3N 5008LC DL1/3N K58L 2L76 1/3N LITHIUM BATTERY DOG COLLAR
BeerBaron
yeah I've switched to the 357s (not LR44s). They give 3.1v vs 3v and that makes the dot noticeably brighter. The 2 X 357s (even duracells bought retail from a store) are cheaper than most places I can get good quality 1/3Ns.
bigboy69
Ah, I see. A lot of them I seen advertised as 357 LR 44 Edited July 11, 2016 by bigboy69

zzt
Yes bb, 357/303. I should specifically say Silver Oxide on the package. If it say Lithium or Alkaline, it is a different battery. Sandbagger123
i bought these and so far after two long 6 hr matches its still as bright as they first went in. also is great i can use them in my other stuff like my calipers . https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006T5HL98/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=
photoracer
I use both the 357s and the 1/3N (Battery Warehouse). I can get the 1/3N to last as much as 5 matches in my rimfires while the 357 last about 2/3 as long. Don't use the LR44 unless its an emergency. cecil
I ordered some replacements for the 1/3n because they were much cheaper .. they were made in China i think (had yellow plastic around the body... they were slightly longer than the dura cells & I was afraid they would enlarge the opening to the point that regular duracells would not work ... wound up throwing them in the trash.. MOtto.. cheaper is not always better...
Mark Meyers
Stay away from the off brands. You can save money with 357s and they're easy to find.
