nicholas306
I just got into reloadin. I bought a new RL550B with every accessory I could hang off of it. I'm loving the press and reloading in general. From all the research I've done, this load seems a bit too fast, but I'm not sure. Shot out of my factory barrel G34. 124gr Missouri Bullet Company Hi Tek coated bullet. 4.5gr of HP38 COAL 1.14 Winchester primer Avg velocity 1,127 I'm using my cheap Shooting Chrony F1, which is why i have my doubts. 45 Raven
Too fast for what? 1127 FPS with a 124 gr. bullet from a G34 is not out of the normal velocity range for that bullet weight and caliber. I have a few handloads with that weight bullet that I have shot out of two G34 Glock pistols, a Springfield XDm, and a Wilson Combat 9mm 1911. MV's range from 1115 FPS to 11160 FPS. Unless you are seeing some pressure signs or other unsettling indications of trouble, I wouldn't worry about it. If you are shooting competition and would like to reduce felt recoil and still make the appropriate PF for a 9mm, you could certainly dial the powder back about 0.3 grains and achieve your goal. CZ85Combat
Back your load down to 4.0gn and re-chrono
Dr. Phil
You can run 4.0 if it will run your gun. I run 3.7 behind a 135gr coated bullet and have run lots of 125gr bullets over that same load. Your load is well within the load range for that weight. Do you have a reloading manual (or 2 or 3) or are you using the data off the internet? BTW Win 231 is the same powder if you run across any of that...
9x45
No, not to fast, but it's way over the minor floor. I run 125s to 1,180 fps plus.
nicholas306
Too fast for this load (questioning the chrono). Thanks for the info. I am shooting USPSA Production division, so I do need to make minor. Yes, I do have a reloading manual. I'll back it down to 4.0 and chrono. e4effort
As everyone said, it's not uncommon with what you listed as your recipe. Coming out of a 5" barrel, you're most likely going to load 4.0 grains and still be able to achieve minor PF.
Hi-Power Jack
I wouldn't "doubt" your "cheap Chrony" ...I've been using a Chrony for 20 years, and it tells mehow fast my bullets are going ...When working up a load, I'll run 5 rounds of each powdercharge to get in the ballpark -Once I'm in the ball park - I'll run 20 rounds thru theChrony and make sure that ALL of them hit PF 125 - thatusually averages out to PF 130 or 132.The Chrony is a very nice, accurate machine - no reason to doubt it. With so many more expensive options, I just doubted it.
