Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo!

recently purchased 2011 noobie guide

Recommended Posts

Fine folks of the Enos forum. So i just purchased myself my first 2011 off of the forum. Do to work circumstances i will not be able to make it home to pick it up from my FFL for a few months. my question to you fine folks is this. Since i purchased the weapon can i get some recomendations on folks to possibly fit multiple barrels to it or is it easier to just get another top end. I plan on primarily shooting 9 and have no issues loading major if need be. Have a 1050 a 650 as well as an AP back home. I am excited to get this weapon in my hands but i wont be back to CO until late july or august. Any smiths recomendations on getting another top end built with 6-8 week lead times?

If this sounds crazy please let me know. I am just a bolt gun nerd who picked up a 2011 and got addicted. This was the 2011 i just purchased and i cant wait to get my hands on it! i can tell this rabbit hole will go nearly as deep as my long gun and reloading equipment holes but in this world i have learned good stuff cost money!

Thanks from a noobie!

After renting a costa carry comp i like the idea of a compensated island site but i would like some of the slide lightening of the once i purchased. I just want to find a good smith who could match the color and do it up like burger king (have it your way) haha.

I have taken alot of "buy once cry once" and "buy nice or buy twice" mentality after that odeal with the hornady ammo plant.

Swimming upstream here......

since you are new to 2011s, my suggestion would be to shoot this thing first. Shoot it some more. THEN start thinking about what to change/add/modify.

Right now you don't if you like 5" or 6" or 5.4" slides or bushing barrels or bull barrels or Sighttracker or AET or light guns or heavy guns or or or or or

Shoot it for a bit is my recommendation. Put 10,000 rounds through that thing.

if i end up making it back to colorado for the 4th i will snag it up and pour the ammo to it. The thing i dont really know yet is if i will be able to get it before august. i would really like to get to shoot the thing first i agree but if i am 12 weeks from getting to touch it might try and use the time at a smith to continue to pour money to it haha

I'd recommend using the wait time to catch up on some literature if you intend on shooting USPSA and have limited previous exposure.  Ben Stoeger has a fair amount of literature and videos available to pass the time, but I think it goes without saying most would recommend "Practical Shooting: Beyound Fundamentals" by Brian Enos.

I would also recommend starting research on the rig for this gun (unless you already have that sorted out), and the Benos forum already has a number of posts related to mag pouches, belts, and holsters.

i need to see if there are any matches in the west texas area where i am located currently. The work schedule isnt very conducive to getting out to shoot much but now that i will be moving towards odessa i might be able to get out more.

Will need to get my press to work when i get home though. Anyone have issues shooting Hi-tek coated cast boolits?

Coated bullets are all I shoot in my limited guns. I have tried Blue Bullets, and Bayous and they both work great, very little smoke and very accurate at 25 yards. If you are planning on shooting limited stay with the .40 as mentioned above no 9 major except for open.

I have a pallet full of lead and a master caster so it will get put to work here pretty soon! this one is in 9 and i will see if this virus takes hold as hard as the bolt guns did! i mean the ammo is alot cheaper and easier to load but you shoot WAY more rounds. Now i need to get to learning comp rules and all the other stuff thats way over my head

Welcome to the dark side!  That looks like a nice Limited gun.  Congrats.  What are your bolt gun interests?  You've got some great reloading & casting equipment.

It sounds like you're military on deployment?  If so, thanks for your service.

I didn't serve. My dad got me into military vehicle collecting. We are history nerds. But I shoot a desert tech srs a1 and the buddies shoot quite a few custom 700s defiance and bergarra's

Continuing rabbit holes to go down that are very costly to find the bottom haha

I got a bone stock STI Eagle a year and a half ago. Currently I'm having a 40 top end build for it and I currently have a 9. The 9 I use in IDPA and 3 Gun and shot minor until this point. I'm going to use the 40 for Major, my gunsmith doing it is also a sponsor so its cheaper than most other gunsmiths and its also his first time doing something like this. I personally like this is over the separate barrels because it's easier to keep separated especially when it comes to guide rods and springs. The main reason I'm doing this thought is because I have a friend who can do a DVC stipple and I want the grip to be the same no matter what top end I'm using, it will feel the same. Granted that one day I'm sure I'll shoot open and have a separate gun for that, it just makes it easier at this point
