Been reading for a while but first time posting.

I've been shooting for a bit but recently shot in my first steel match. Now i need an open gun HA.

I'm running a G34 but might throw a comp and sight on it to get started...

Thanks guys!

Hi-Power... I reload for rifle but have not done pistol yet. So I'm on a single stage press. I guess i need to start saving 9mm brass. Planning on going with 9mm major to standardize ammo.

Lot easier to reload 9mm than reloading rifle   :)

Not sure what you mean by "going 9mm Major to standardize" ?

I wouldn't feed a steady supply of 9mm Major thru a 9mm pistol,

unless it is set up properly for the high pressure loads ...

Oh .. i knew i worded that wrong. I meant to standardize cartridges. Am i wrong in believing 9mm and 9mm major use the same casings? I just don't want to have to go out and buy a whole bunch of 38 SC brass.

You're correct. 9 mm Lugar/Parabellum is the standard 9 mm case people are referring to when talking 9 mm. It's 9X19 whether you load to minor or major power factor. 9 mm for major is for open guns. There are other 9 mm cases however. I'm no expert on this, but there is 9X18 (Makarov), 9X21, and I think our .380 cases are referred to by some as 9 Kurz - or short. You can neck down other cases I believe, but 9mm Lugar is so prevalent and can't imagine folks would spend the time doing so.

It is confusing ...

You take a standard 9 x 19 (9mm) case, and fill it with powder,

and stick a 124 grain bullet on it, and it can be a :

* standard 9mm load (9mm or 9mm Minor) (PF -125-135)

or

* 9mm Major - PF 165 +.

You should be able to shoot any 9mm Minor cartridge in any

9mm gun, but you don't want to shoot 9mm Major in most

9mm guns.

If you're using a 9mm pistol for steel, you want to shoot 9mm Minor loads.

When you go to OPEN, you want to shoot 9mm Major loads.

The way I can tell them apart easily, is I use a different bullet for Minor

and Major (147 gr for Minor and 124 for Major) - can't confuse them.    :)

Oh ok. I never thought of that.. I was thinking about saving my 9mm brass and then reloading it for a 9mm major (open) gun. I guess that could get me into a snafu if i mixed them up. I haven't read too much on the glock barrels but if i throw a KKM in, i should be good to shoot major out if it? That seemed to be one that i read others using for major...

Thanks guys.

There are literally a ton of 9mm cartridges out there.

9mm Japanese revolver

9mm Ultra

9mm Glisenti

9mm Parabellum

9mm Kurz

9mm Federal

9mm Browning long

9 x21

9x23

9x25

9mm Action Express

9mm Steyr

9mm Largo

9 x 25 Mauser

9mm Winchester Magnum

9mm Mars

9mm Makarov

9x21 Gyurza

And that is just the ones branded as "9mm", which doesn't include all the 38/357 variants, which would probably add another 20 to the list.
