Hammer wear?

I took my tanfo apart for some deep cleaning and noticed some unsual wear. Has anyone seen this. It almost looks like material from the hammer has melted onto the bottom of the slide.

Word on the street is Patriot is about to drop a hammer/sear kit... might as well wait for that.

I heard that rumor too. Something about crisper SA and harder DA strike. But you know how unreliable rumors are...

We've heard this rumor as well...........:D

Would a new hammer/sear fix this problem though?

Considering that one is on its way out, yes.

In all seriousness, Johnbu has a post floating around here pertaining to knocking down that sharp edge of the rear slide. I think yours was just a little more aggressive than most.

It's hard to tell with the extra metal stuck to it but the back of your slide already looks bevelled.  Do you have a pic with the bits of hammer removed?

And a close look at the hammer, front and side profile .

It looks like the hammer is chipping. Indicating a heat treat or alloy problem.

It sure would be nice to have an "Optimized tm" hammer.

Smart considering the ruling on production hammers being fair game for anything under the sun.

An Optimized PD UberHammer was my first thought when DNROI said "Forget it, all hammers are go in production guns!"

I actually imaged a giant sledge hammer attached to the back of my gun. Those CCI primers don't stand a chance.

All my titan hammers look VERY similar.

I'll post up a picture shortly.

Have you ever worn one out and needed to replace it? At this point, I'm just going to keep running it since gun still goes bang.

I don't think I would.  It looks worn to the point the hammer is catching the edge of the FPB hole.
