rondog
Do any of you have any load data for shooting 38 specials in a revolver for a very soft recoil. I am looking into loading some 38's for the wife's revolver And she would like it very soft shooting. Just looking for a starting point. Thanks in advance. Oh oh and it's a sp 100 I think. Hi-Power Jack
Just for plinking, or are you trying to make a certain Power Factor? If you don't need a PF, I'd go with a very light bullet and as little of any powder you have on hand - usually can get them down to as little as PF100 or so - Very Soft Shooting. Doc Neeley
Check the cowboy action loads on the powder manufactures websites. All are light loads. I shoot 125 gr RNFP over 4 gr. of American select or Unique.
pbcaster45
I know it's probably sacrilege to shoot one, but here's what I use in my Colt Diamondback. Bullet: Missouri Bullet Company 125 gr. TCFP (Hi-Tek coating/Cowboy Alloy) Powder: Winchester 231 4.3 grs. Primer: CCI-500 Case: Federal LOAL: 1.445 And the obligatory gun porn... I shoot my Python on occasion. I think it's sacrilege NOT to shoot them. But I don't beat it up shooting matches. O/P: Light bullets and fast powder. Load lightly and you'll get a load to shoot almost like a rimfire.
Bigzeke
My general load for super light 38 was 3.0 grains of Trail Boss. TB is a cowboy action powder designed for cast boolits. I have used it with lubed cast, coated, and plated. 125 or 158 grain. Super accurate in all 4 of my revos. Does not make PF for USPSA. I think the 158grs chrony at 600ish fps. pete627
I have a great load I used to use for plinking with a 4 inch barrel Model 10 (and uses Bullseye). 105gr lead flat nose (Cowboy bullet available everywhere coated or plain) .. (like $60ish per K from Bayou and places like that). with .. 2.8gr Bullseye loaded to a 1.44 OAL ... It went 740fps out of my Model 10 making a whomping 78pf. Really fun to shoot and accurate. For use with spring loaded speed loaders I switched to a round nose bullet 135gr coated ... with 3.3gr Bullseye loaded to 1.475 OAL it made a respectable 844fps / 114pf out of the same gun. MNshooter
158 SWC from Bayou3.6 grains Titegroup Medium roll crimpMakes high 700s fps, about 120 PF. Very soft and accurate. I've had no trouble knocking down poppers at an outlaw steel match despite the low PF.
Livin_cincy
One of the Features of the LEE Modern Reloading book is how load Data is presented. Richard Lee shows many manufactures of Powder Load Data for a given bullet together. You can compare powders and see their published Velocities. So so you can find a low velocity & low bullet weight combination that meets your needs for soft shooting or hard hitting. You may buy her a special pound of powder just for her so the loads are soft enough. Just DO NOT under any circumstances do this for Mother's Day, Anniversary, Her Birthday, etc.
acoop101
I have always liked the classic 2.7-2.8 grains of bullseye and a 148 grain hbwc. Veeeerrrryyy soft shooting and it cuts nice clean holes.Sent from my XT1565 using Tapatalk
