Dry fire target height

Recommended Posts

If you are setting up a 1/3 scale target for 10 yards away and 6 foot shoulder height, how high are you setting the targets? To "scale" would be 2 feet to the shoulder but standing back looking at it, its appears very low standing at the designated 10 feet away. Is this the right math on height or is there another method used?

On a lot of classifiers it specifies the shoulder of the metric target be set 5 feet high.   Take a standard metric target and mark the center of the lower scoring area (approx 4 foot, 1 inch).

Use that mark to center the 1/3 scale target.   (Works out to be 4 foot 10-1/2 inch to the shoulder.)

May not be the right way to do it, but works for me.

Or you can just eyeball it until it looks good.
