jetav8r
I have only loaded 9mm and 45 ACP. A friend wants me to load some 38 Spl for his wheel gun. Will a roll crimp work onl the Hi-Tek bullets or does the crimp scrape off the coating and cause leading and/or accuracy problems?
Kurusty
I haven't had any issues with their 160 grain in specials and short Colt with the Lee FCD. I've loaded well over 8K now.Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
Taroman
+1 on the 160s. I run them in 38 Special +P for field pistol silhouette and in 38 Mid for speed games. Crimp just enough to remove the case flare. Edited May 2, 2017 by Taroman note added
jetav8r
Thanks for the response. What I am trying to find out is will a Roll Crimp work with the Hi-Tek coated bullets or not. I think it will scrape off the coating.
Jim Watson
I can't say. I taper crimp such ungrooved bullets. You might try a light roll crimp and find out.

As far as crimp goes just remove the bell or put a slight taper crimp and you will be just fine. 38 load data.pdf
missed it by that much
I run the 135 bayou round nose with Lee factory crimp in 38 special and have no problems. I also run the 138 wad cutters in same with no problemsSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

jcc7x7
125 gr RN with crimp groove, will take a light roll crimp with out problem. But it's a lot of time adjusting dies to get it perfect. Suggest you use fcd and your all set. Literally follow the instructions so you don't cause other issues
MNshooter
I've loaded thousands of 158 SWCs from Bayou. I use a medium to light roll crimp with no coating scraping. I found that I got better accuracy with a roll crimp vs taper.
