How to remove rear sight set screw after red Loctite 262 was used

I installed a Dawson rear sight on my CZ and used red Loctite 262, as suggested by Dawson.

 

Now I'd like to remove the sight.

 

It won't budge with just an Allen wrench.  The Loctite website says 500deg heat will break it loose.  I was going to buy a soldering iron, but most only go to 450.  I tried heating a nail with a torch and then holding it to the set screw...No dice.

 

I've read a heat gun works, but a little worried about the finish.

 

How can I get this set screw removed?

Propane torch will do it. Heat guns don't cut it for the temperature needed. Just keep the flame low on the torch.

Try a wood burning iron.  You can put the tip directly on the screw and heat only the screw.

I got it.

 

I went to Home Depot and bought a Bernzomatic micro butane torch.  It gave me a small pencil flame so I could localize the heat where I wanted it.  It still didn't come out super easy, but not bad.

 

I thought I screwed up by using red Loctite for a bit ?

I respect Mr. Dawson more than I can say and have installed many many sets of his sights, but after a couple long and very informative conversations with Loctite, I have been using #290 for sights and absolutely love it.  Its a wicking med strength retaining/threadlocker.  Has enough strength to hold up to 44 mag recoil and can be taken apart without heat.  Has some other cool features too.  Take a look.

soldering iron on the screw will add some heat.

290 Loctite works well for me as well. On scope bases and rings red is too hard to break loose and sometimes those hex or star heads will strip out.

The 290 loctite is a great idea. I can't say I have ever used it. Usually it's a choice between purple (forgot number), 242 and 272
