slide and comp

You guys that build a lot of open guns what is the correct back angle relief for the comp and slide.   I see written often it is 1 degree but have measure several open pistols of late all which run great with thousands of rounds through the pipe.  The angle on the slide muzzle varied from 0.7 to 1.25 degrees.

 

Oh and Joe Chambers that Black Mumba open gun you built and talked about in the open pistol forum is awesome.

always had it written 1 degree, then hand file to final adjustment gap.

The Yavapai slide fixture is also set up to cut a 1 degree angle.

The angle depends on high the barrel is fit into the slide, 1 degree is a good starting point.

As Rich stated, it depends on the barrel fit.  Higher lockup is going to result in a greater angle at the muzzle.  Best thing to do is fit the barrel, measure the angle, then machine the slide and comp to match.
