Peterock
I purchased a 19-4 last year primarily for IDPA and ICore. The finish is all but gone, rear sight leaf edge was scarred from a drop I assume (fixed with hammer), front sight appears to be part of the barrel with a red ramp insert, but the trigger was great and it seems to be quite accurate. Got a legal Safariland holster and I'm using a modified 333 as a speedloader holder for comp 3s, hogue monogrips. My question is where should I start with mods on this specifically for IDPA? Bob hammer, fixed sight set, grips? Chamfer the recessed cylinders? Edited January 6, 2017 by Peterock
jhgtyre
A good friend of mine has won several ICORE regionals shooting that same basic setup. If the trigger is good the sights are really the only thing you MIGHT consider changing. I was all hot to change the sights on my model 19 but stock sights work just fine for IDPA which is what I shoot most with that gun. My friend left his stock sights in as well. Maybe you should just shoot it until the gun tells you what to change?
MWP
For a speed loader gun you don't want or even need much chamfer, but I'm not really sure what you mean by recessed cylinders? And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the 333 is idpa legal?
GmanCdp
333's are not legal for IDPA.. B. Speed loader carriers must either be of open top configuration that covers at least 45% of the diameter and 100% of the cartridge height when viewed from the front, and must retain the speed loader by tension or retain the speed loader with a snap or Velcro closure. Side cuts are permitted for thumb and index finger access only go here and get this from Bob.. http://www.4wheelguns.com/IDP go here and take a look around for your revolver tune up needs http://clarkcustomguns.com/gunsmithing-services/revolver/ or you may want to scrap the 19 and get a newer S&W SSR here, but would still need an action tune up.https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-model-686-ssr or here : http://pinnaclehighperformance.com/revolver-work-2/ or here: http://moonclips.com/content/AJ.asp another thing to consider is after doing a light action job, some revolvers will only set off Federal primers, so if you don't reload you are screwed.. Bottom left is the latest revolver I got off the forum here that was made for IDPA. S&W HB 67 38spl with crane ball lock and fiber optic front sight, cut hammer and a sweeeeeeet action job that requires Federal primers. Upper left is a "L" frame I've had for years that I have shot a good bit.. Edited January 6, 2017 by GmanCdp

I've fashioned a kydex shroud for both holders that I plan to rivet onto the leather. So far I've only shot local matches so it hasn't come up. "IDPA approved" options are quite pricey and I wanted to make sure that I enjoyed revolver first.

GMM50
Ask IDPA what's an approved Moon Clip Holder........You'll never get a clear concise answer in writing.
Peterock
Anyone use or have an opinion about the Micculek style grips?

I used them a lot back when I did a switch hand reload but after I started keeping the gun in my firing hand during reloads I moved away from them. MWP
Like every grip, the Miculek supports the motto; "To each his own." I still use them for idpa and steel challenge guns, and Miculeks with big butts on them for uspsa and icore. They work great, and like Gregg says, they nicely compliment the strong hand reload. Peterock
Anyone use these Meprolight night sights on a red ramp fixed front sight gun? My 19-4 is a forged front sight and I don't want to pay to have a GS mill a channel. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/489909/meprolight-tru-dot-adjustable-sight-set-s-and-w-k-l-n-frame-with-red-insert-front-sight-steel-blue-tritium-green seems like a legitimate options as it will give me 3 dot sights during the day which I prefer to the red ramp. Below ow is my current front sight:
Peterock
Also, are there any idpa legal cylinder release latches I can use that are less restrictive for speedloader use? bob hammer or remove SA notch so I can still use in Action Pistol/Bianchi?
